LED lighting will save the company an estimated seven million kilowatt hours of electricity over five years and help avoid an estimated $645,000 in costs over the same period. Two, 30-kilowatt wind turbines will generate about 100,000 kwh per year each or enough electricity to power 40 average-sized Canadian homes annually.
The waste heat generated by the refrigeration system would normally be lost. Instead, it is captured and routed through this equipment to heat floors and to keep the cooler at 34 degrees during the winter. In a refrigerated building, keeping the area under floors warm prevents heaving due to ice build-up under the slab.
Hydrogen fuel cells replace traditional lead acid batteries in the facility’s fleet of 71 material handling vehicles. The use of fuel cells will reduce C02 emissions from the vehicle fleet by 55 percent.

Gaps between transportation vehicles and the dock doors have been lessened to reduce the loss of refrigerated air. The windows found in traditional dock doors have been eliminated and insulation installed in levellers, further reducing energy loss. Electronic monitoring ensures that dock doors are not left open unnecessarily.

The solar array will produce a peak of over 205 kilowatt hours per day, or the equivalent of heating the water of 20 Canadian homes with 40-gallon tanks.
We use infrared scanning technology to identify areas where energy can be lost to the environment. With this information, we can take action to improve the insulation performance of building penetrations, door seas, dock plates and air curtains.

In Kosovo, a shipment of U.S. donated COVID-19 vaccines are loaded into freezers until they are ready to be administered.

The vaccine is stored centrally in cold storages in Islamabad before being dispatched to districts all over Pakistan. More than a 1000 Km from the village in kamber Shahdadkot, it is still hours from reaching the children who need it.

Direct Relief's partner in-country is the Asthma Clinic of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which operates in a wing of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in the capital city of Kingston. The Asthma Clinic currently supports about 2,300 patients with approximately 200 new referrals each year. Although the number of asthma cases in has risen fourfold in the past decade, the government is only able to provide only half of the funding for the supplies needed.
With a generous donation from Schering-Plough, Direct Relief has been able to help those with respiratory conditions by providing necessary medications like the Foradil Aerolizer (for long-term asthma patients to use twice daily), Proventil inhalers (for prevention and treatment of wheezing and increasing air flow to the lungs), Nasonex (for treating allergy symptoms), and Asmanex Twisthalers (for treating asthma in children).
'Cold Chain' is Key: health officials transport the vaccine in an insulated box to maintain the 'cold chain,' a system by which the temperature is controlled in each stage from manufacturing to distribution.

Nigeria: Africa’s most populous country launched the vaccine in 2012, completing its national introduction ahead of schedule in December 2013. This has involved on-going work with partners including GAVI to improve the cold chain, making sure vaccines are kept cool and safe while on their way to children across the country.

She has 4 children and cares for them mostly alone while her husband moves around the town selling clothes to support the family. Halima used to clean homes in town for an income, but since the drought many people have stopped having a cleaner come as they are also suffering with less income. They lived in Baidoa but once the drought increased, they moved to Garowe where there are less people.
Nurses are working at the Jawle Health Center mobile vaccine clinic in Garowe, is set up in the Jawle IDP camp Mother and Baby center. The clinic moves to different places around the IDP camps 3 days a week so that they can reach many people. UNICEF works through EPI donors like GAVI to supports partner organizations like World Vision, Save the Children, CRC and the Puntland Ministry of Health. Many pastoralists are coming to the IDP camp here because the drought is killing off their livestock. There has been outbreaks of diseases and so this year there will be 2 rounds of an integrated vaccination campaigns (one was in March the next is in November) to immunize for measles and polio along with vitamin A supplementation and deworming.
In July there was a measles outbreak and more children for suffering but there was an outreach campaign in response to the outbreak and the situation soon stabilized. After the outreach about immunization around 530 children under 5 years old were brought into the clinic for their dose.

I have an interest in food safety. One thing that amazes me in China is seeing fresh dairy products routinely stored out of refrigeration. This display in a normal Beijing supermarket is quite routine: A stack of yoghurt products, sitting at room temperature on a display case. I can only speculate that Chinese tummies have grown accustomed to the rampant bacteria growing in their warm dairy products.

Newcastle Disease vaccine: Creating sustainability through commercial delivery systems
Making livestock vaccines and medicines easily accessible to smallholder farmers is a vital component of the value chain. If the vaccines are beyond reach, the farmers will not benefit and their livestock will suffer. In Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, India, local retail shops provide the much needed solution to a glaring gap by stocking and making readily available, essential livestock vaccines and medicines such as the Newcastle Disease (ND) vaccine. Often, they are regular medicine shop owners, who are now finding that stocking vaccines such as the ND vaccine profitable. Furthermore, these retail shops have the required equipment and knowledge such as cold chain storage management to ensure that the quality of the vaccines are not compromised.
