Since the highway goes in a straight line while the railroad coils around the hills following the course of the river we were able to get the shot at the other side of the horseshoe only a mile west of the shot I just posted.
Continuing the look back to a great chase up and over Soldier Summit two years ago today.
This train loaded at West Elk Mine on the North Fork branch and turned west at Grand Junction to cross the desert. The Helpers were cut in at their namesake town and we chased this train west over the summit and down the mountain until last light. They are seen here winding alongside the Price River at about MP 641.5 west of Kyune on the modern day Union Pacific's Provo Sub, the one time Denver and Rio Grande Western Utah Division mainline.

One of Mittal steel's SC15-A's pulls a long string of coil cars for B09 to pick up, that orange car in the shot is a buffer car for the bottle train that NS 4608 just dropped off.
No one is in the cab it is being run by remote.

Visto che Γ¨ una raritΓ il passaggio di convogli di coils da 'ste parti ecco il lato A dell'altra foto inerente questo treno...Ecco l' E652.082 in testa all' MRS 64318 Sestri Ponente Aer. - Novi S.Bovo, coadiuvata dalla 033 in coda, mentre transita nei pressi di Predosa tra campi di grano tagliati di fresco in una calda mattinata estiva.
Con l'apertura del nuovo raccordo Storti a Piadena (CR), CFI ha iniziato un nuovo collegamento tra Terni e lo scalo nel cremonese, finalizzato al trasporto di Coils; nella foto vediamo uno di questi convogli al traino della E 190-322, in transito nei pressi di Monzuno (BO).
Pare che al sabato abbia iniziato a circolare con frequenza abbastanza regolare questo treno di coils da Novi per la Francia. Non so se sia dovuto all'interruzione della linea di Ventimiglia, o se sia un traffico nuovo. Sta di fatto che malgrado la linea costiera sia ormai riaperta, il treno ha continuato a circolare.
Parece que haya empezado a circular con cierta regularidad este bobinero procedente de Novi Ligure y con destino Francia, probablemente Portbou. No se si es por la interrupcion de la linea de la costa, que ahora ya esta de nuevo abierta. De todas formas el tren sigue circulando por Torino y Modane, asi que no se si es un nuevo servicio, o si por problemas siguen desviando los mercancias por mi linea.

Westbound CN train M399 is going into the single track at Valparaiso, Indiana on February 27th, 2003. Train had this car, GTW Coil Car #101126 with DT&I hoods.
Built in 1847, The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. These involved rigorous systems aimed at finding the best administrative officials for the state.
These coil incense were "lighted" by worshipers whose names were written on a red tag hanging from the incense. It is believed lighting these incense will make one's wishes come true.

A young woman belonging to the Kayan (long neck) tribe in northern Thailand poses for a portrait. The Kayan people are originally from Myanmar, but often cross into Thailand due to the economic and political situation in their home country. The brass coils are wound around the neck of girls starting with 9 coils at age 9 and increasing by one coil per year and topping out at about 24+ coils. Since this woman has 21 coils, I am guessing that she is of the same age.
I'm not exactly certain what this is. I'm guessing it has something to do with quilting and quilt blocks. Just one of the many mysteries at the fabric store while trailing along with the wife.
A westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe steel coil train grinds up the 2% grade at the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon west of Clay, Colorado, on October 17, 2001. On the point of the short-but-heavy train is a pair of BNSF Dash 9s sandwiching a very out of place Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific SD40 No. 5905, and pushing hard on the rear is a manned set of SD40-2 pushers. The action takes place on Union Pacificβs Moffat Tunnel Subdivision west of Denver. I wonder if this is the only time a DW&P locomotive worked the old Rio Grande?β¦
