Veteran Tenor Sax legend Vernon "Spot" Barnett was one of the premier rhythm & blues bandleaders in Texas' chitlin circuit heyday of the 1960's. This poster promoted the last in a series of old-school "Revue"-style extravaganzas that I put together & promoted along with Spot. The core of performers on the show were veterans of the same early San Antonio & South Texas clubs (Eastwood Country Club, The Ebony Lounge, The Keyhole Club, Victory Grill, etc). This was an amazing night, as were each of the previous Eastwood Blues Revues.

For Interstitial Arts folk, I'm adding this render as an artist who works in virtual worlds, which are by their very nature liminal places. This image is obviously a piece of digital visual work, but it involves the phenomenon of cyberembodiment, the production of community in virtual spaces, the appreciation of others' work (Beta's music), and the literal collaborative foundation of dancing in a club whose virtual architecture was produced by a group under Beta's direction.

The ANNUAL RAM JAM is a once-a-year music fest & celebration that was established beginning in 2006 by myself (Jerry Clayworth) & Jeff Smith (of Saustex Media / Hickoids) to honor a fallen friend, Ramiro "Ram" Ayala, and the live music venue & bar that he owned for 39 years. To so many, this little downtown San Antonio nightspot held far and away more soul, history, music, and family than an outside observer would ever guess. The list of bands, musicians, artists, bikers, celebs, locals, rich, and poor, who passed through the Taco Land doors would boggle the uninitiated mind. A webflyer I designed for my buddy, the legendary roots/rockabilly king, Mr Sean Mencher. These were a pair of local gigs in his homestate of Maine, although he gets around pretty well... Sean has toured the country & the world as a founding member of High Noon, and was guitarist for Texas' original rockabilly icon, Ronnie Dawson! Featuring 'Eric's', the tailors, which had a very similar sign as the later Eric's club / music venue in Mathew Street - I wonder what the connection was, or did the clubowners just copy the font without any other connection perhaps? There also appears to be Yangtse, the Chinese restaurant, Midland Bank, The Hare and Hounds pub, Canter's (closing down) and Davidson's...

Featuring 'Eric's', the tailors, which had a very similar sign as the later Eric's club / music venue in Mathew Street - I wonder what the connection was, or did the clubowners just copy the font without any other connection perhaps? There also appears to be Yangtse, the Chinese restaurant, Midland Bank, The Hare and Hounds pub, Canter's (closing down) and Davidson's...
