On a transit flight (getting to or from a display location) the team may fly at the relatively low altitude of 1,000 feet (300 m). This avoids the complication of moving though the cloud base in formation, and also avoids much controlled air space. Jets are more efficient at higher altitude, so longer flights are made at 35,000 to 42,000 feet (11,000 to 13,000 m). On transit flights, the formation can include spare planes. Sometimes a C-130 Hercules accompanies them, carrying spare parts.
As the fuel tank capacity of the Hawk sets a limit to flight distance, very long transits between display sites may need landings on the way to refuel. For example, a visit to Canada needed 6 refuelling stops (in Scotland and Iceland and Greenland and Newfoundland).
I watched that protuding cloud base for many minutes as the storm line moved away from me. Lots of electricity in the air that nite.

I recently received a request to make a pair of cloud shoes for the owner of an Enchanted Doll. I was surprised to learn how tiny ED's feet are. Needless to say, I had to create a new cloud base and calculate the shrinkage rate of porcelain. Through trial and error I think I got the right size. I won't know for certain until I ship them out and they are placed on those tiny, regal feet. I included a comparison between my doll's feet and ED's feet, the difference is remarkable.

4º dia de viagem - No pub Metropolitan, ao lado da Baker Street. Londres, England.
4th day of journey - At Metropolitan pub, near Baker Street. London, England.
J D Wetherspoon pubs have a standard pub menu throughout the country and serve a variety of low priced cask ales, having over 650 Cask Marque accredited houses. There is often a local ale available. Pubs in the chain generally do not play background music, and usually do not have televisions or screen live sports or news and when there is a television, the sound is muted with subtitles displayed instead.
Many of the features aimed for in Wetherspoon pubs, such as quiet bars and reasonably-priced lunches, are influenced by George Orwell's essay The Moon Under Water, in which Orwell described his concept of the perfect pub. Several Wetherspoon-owned pubs bear the name "The Moon Under Water".
Many of the pubs are in large converted buildings, such as cinemas, banks, churches, supermarkets, swimming baths or railway stations.
The decor and fittings tend to be in a faux-Victorian public house style with the addition of photos of the local area and information boards concerning local history. They take pride in the standard of decor in the toilets, some of which have won national awards.
Since November 2006, some Wetherspoon pubs have offered free Wi-Fi internet access via The Cloud based on availability. Many pubs have Itbox quiz machines.

During the Clouds, Aerosol, and Precipitation in the Marine Boundary Layer (CAP-MBL) field campaign on Graciosa Island, the Vaisala ceilometer (VCEIL) was used to measure cloud-base height at up to three levels and potential backscatter signals by aerosols. The ceilometer transmits near-infrared pulses of light, and the receiver detects the light scattered back by clouds and precipitation.

Over looking Hope Valley from Carhead Rocks. Light breaks around the valley but cloud means no foreground light on the rocks.
A morning of frustration and beauty in equal measure! Set off for Stanage Edge only to find it completely encased in hill cloud. I dropped down to Hook's Car, managed to get below the cloud base and decided to go to Carhead Rocks instead. No sunrise to speak of, then my camera shutter started jamming! Fortunately, got it working again. Finally, the light began to break around an hour after sunrise!
