A close call, from last nights Frost.

Created for the macro group, "Looking close...on Friday!"

This weeks theme is "Bicycle."

How could I refuse?

Whilst our Mallorcan inlander/highlander Flickr friends continue to find and photograph wonderful mushrooms, down here at Palma sea level, we are closing up the show for this season. This one was one of very few left in the forest this morning.

Ci si chiude alle spalle il cancellato dell'infanzia, e si entra in un giardino di incanti. Persino la penombra qui brilla di promesse. A ogni svolta il sentiero ha le sue sensazioni.

Wittnauer up Close one of the few watches I have found in buying odd boxes of things, this one is vintage, found in North Carolina.

Another shot from my trip to Well's last week.

No visit to Wells is complete without a visit to this famous spot, and on Wednesday last week, I managed to get it free of people for all of five minutes which was just enough time for me to get the shot I wanted.

Vicars’ Close, adjoining Wells Cathedral, is believed to be the most complete example of a medieval Close in the UK. This significant landmark was designed to provide communal accommodation for the Vicars Choral, who sang daily worship within the Cathedral. This centuries-old tradition continues today and is a unique and much valued part of life at Wells Cathedral.

The houses of the close were built in the 14th century under direction from Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury and the iconic chimneys were added in the 15th century. Originally 42 houses were built (one per vicar), but some were combined following the Reformation when vicars were allowed to marry. Today, the Close comprises 27 residences, a chapel, library, treasury and muniment room. There is also a dining hall connected to the Cathedral by a covered walkway, the Chain Gate Bridge.

Reflecting the Close’s significance, all its buildings are Grade I listed. The current occupants still include all twelve men of the Vicars Choral, plus the organists and virgers. Vicars Choral have remained at the heart of life at Wells Cathedral since the 1100s and are now recognised as a world-class choir.

Looking Close... on Friday: Grasses

This is a full frame shot of an encounter I had with a coyote. It was trotting directly towards me not knowing I was there behind my camera and tripod but I didn't have a clear shot until it was only a few yards away when it briefly came partially in the open allowing me only a few frames before it realized I was right in front of him, then without stopping, it quickly turned and ran off. It's not the best shot as far as composition goes with the ears and nose cut off but I never thought it would get this close! This is the only decent frame I got.

On a Saturday afternoon most shops close their doors by 4.00. The clock tells us why shoppers are hurrying away with their purchases as the low sun casts a golden glow over St John Street.

Sometimes the subject can get almost too close especially when using a 500mm prime lens. All things considered, I was pleased with this photo of the male Summer Tanager.

It's nice to be close to your subject but I've had times where they are too close. Not quite the case for this Goldeneye Drake, as I actually did crop in a little on this image.

Short Eared Owl. Not totally sure about this one, close but was a bit noisy. Doesn't bear too much pixel peeping.

The Praying Mantis; the Garden Protector. He decided to stop by and pay a visit, reminding us to calm down and know that we are protected. That we need not worry. That we need not stress over the details of the day.

Wishing we were on that fishing boat!!

December 1, 2021, on Black Point Wildlife Drive. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Titusville, Florida, USA. The Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) is usually skittish and difficult to approach, but that’s not how it was on this recent trip to Merritt Island NWR. We encountered four individuals that permitted us to come close.

Did you try this cruise? This kind of view you can only get riding one of the Wendella cruises around Chicago. This is taken yesterday morning from one of their boats. Great crew just enhances the whole experience! What do you think?

One of my favorite comps there at Ricketts Glen. This was taken with the 10mm getting in very close, and then I panned to get this wider view. Stitch of two captures taken down there in the flow.

The plan was to go and see how the goslings were doing, this unexpected fellow showed up and proceeded to follow me around getting quite close at times. This young buck is not tame, he is a wild White-tailed Deer, but for some reason he knew I was not a threat and stuck around for the entire time.
