View from the Reid Murdoch Building clocktower July 2018

The clock tower in the centre of Ormskirk, Lancashire, UK. Now surrounded by a pedestriansised area but when I were a lad the crowed streets of Ormskirk, especially on Thursday and Saturday Market days were crammed with traffic and Ribble buses. It seems hard to comprehend that now.

The start of a wonderful journey at the head of the village.

Glenside Hospital in Bristol was built in 1861 for people diagnosed with mental health problems. It was originally called Beaufort Hospital but was renamed Glenside Hospital in the 1950's. It was used between 1915 and 1918 as a special hospital for soldiers injured during the First World War. It was then that the artist Stanley Spencer worked here and some of his paintings on show at Sandhurst Memorial Chapel near Newbury are based on his memories of that time. Other visitors have included Princess Anne, Cary Grant and for 6 months in 1980-81.. me! I worked here on Ward 17 geriatric ward as part of the Youth Opportunities Programme. It is now part of the University of West of England and used for health education.

This is the oldest naval store-house to survive in any of the Royal Dockyards and can be found at Chatham.

The Clocktower Building was constructed at the head of the docks as a "present use store" for materials needed by ships under construction or repair. Such items included lead, iron, copper, oakum (for caulking), pitch and tar. The top floor was used as a mould loft, and the six ground floor bays at the north (far) end of the building were left open and used as sawpits.

The store was rebuilt in 1802, when its original timber cladding was replaced by the brick skin visible today. The clock has three bells: the hour bell is dated 1702 and the half- and quarter-hour bells date from the time of its reconstruction.

In the 20th century the building was converted into office accommodation. It was structurally restored in 1992-93 and adapted in 1996-97 to become the University of Kent's Bridge Warden's College.

At the narrow entrance to the Alfred Basin, on the Berties Landing side, is the original Clock Tower, built in 1882 to house the port captain's office. This is in the form of a red octagonal Gothic-style tower and stands just in front of the Clock Tower Centre, a modern mall with a collection of shops, offices and restaurants.

The Clock Tower Centre houses the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, from where you catch the main ferry to the island. This side of the Waterfront is connected the bulk of the area by a swing bridge, which swings open every 10 minutes to allow boats to pass underneath.

It's not uncommon for the lights on Hoboken's clock tower to burn out. It's also not uncommon for them not to be replaced for months.

Changed the pillars and started working on the stairs.

Now completed with its Down journey, 761 runs around before heading to be serviced and turned at Ballarat East depot and returning to Melbourne on SRVs second Eureka express of 2026 5.9.26.

The old Rockford Clock Tower Resort has been demolished. It was cool walking around and seeing this abandoned resort. The water park might be saved but I doubt it.
