After overextending themselves acquiring Milwaukee Road, Soo Line established a wholly-owned division called Lake States Transportation Division on February 10, 1986, to operate its mostly former Soo Line trackage in Wisconsin and prepare it for sale. With this move, older locomotives and some leased power began to be much more common on these lines. On March 22, 1987, a southbound Soo Line (Lake States) freight climbs to the top of Byron Hill at Byron, Wisconsin, powered by two Soo EMD GP9s and a leased Conrail EMD GP38.
Northbound Reading and Northern train NRFF is passing the intermediate signal at MP LS 149 of modern day RBMN's Lehigh Division mainline at a spot on the railroad known as Berger's. Unlike the signals on the Reading Division which were all reinstalled by RBMN, the signals on the upper Lehigh Line date to NS, CR, and predecessors LV or CNJ.

So great to see Wilson fit enough for little climbs and half hour walks in good speed. Might completely overcome the cancer by the CBD treatment. So happy about this!!
With the imposing Livingston Peak rising in the background, 6800 feet of traffic begins its slow climb over Bozeman Pass with two freshly washed EMD's in charge. The town of Livingston can be seen in the background as the mountains fade into prairie before climbing back up to the Crazy Mountains near Big Timber.

This is another location that is extremely well shot for obvious reasons, but amazingly I'd never before seen this classic location for myself.

Man GP38-2 201 (built new for the fledging VTR in Dec. 1972) sure sounded amazing notched out climbing the grade here. I'm not sure of the grade around the curve here, but it was more than I expected. If any VTR experts can weigh in on that I'd be grateful!

Climbing some railings in Ardoyne while on walk about with the International Peripatetic Sculptor’s Society.
Here is another photo taken at the viewing tower I visited today. There will be more, after all I risked my life to get these photos. I think this capture was taken on the first of three floors and I guess that was the moment when I asked myself for the first time if I had a screw loose. When I arrived at the top I KNEW that I had a screw loose.
No cat photo today, I had to take Cleo and Linus to the vet this afternoon and they aren't in the mood for photos. And Fynn is angry because he had to stay at home.
Vermont Railway train 263 is grinding eastward on the Green Mountain Railroad's Bellows Falls Subdivision on a cloudy late fall morning. They are approaching the popular photo location at the s-curve leading into the first Vermont Route 103 crossing at about MP 45.7 on this historic former Rutland mainline which opened between Bellows Falls and Burlington in 1849. In the lead is SD70M-2 431 built in December 2006 for the Florida East Coast, and one of only two six axle units on the roster. She is trailed by three geeps (GMTX 2215, CLP 204, VTR 207) and thirty cars destined for Riverside Yard in Rockingham. The train is working hard and is in the process of climbing nearly 1000 ft in the 18 mile stretch from Rutland until they reach the crest of the Green Mountains at 1518 ft nearly aptly named Summit Station.
A half dozen miles to the west rise the 2000+ foot peaks of the Taconic Mountains which are catching some late morning sun that would prove elusive over here to the east in the Greens.
