Crest of Mount Rainier, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
At 14,411 feet [4392 meters] the crest of Tahoma/Rainier is typically covered in snow year round. But the heat waves this summer have melted most of the snowpack, leaving more rock exposed than I have ever seen on this mountain. I have been sad to see it looking so bereft, but it has also offered a very different view of the mountain, especially when seen up close.
When clad in its usual protective vesture of snow, the mountain seems aloof, maintaining an air of mystery and distance. It asks for deference and awe and is granted that without a thought.
Shorn of that icy impenetrable surface, the layers beneath are fully exposed. The mountain seems approachable, touchable, vulnerable. It permits an intimacy of acquaintance that previously seemed impossible.
And there is a beauty in those revelations, in those bare contours that entice the eye and speak of untold years. One feels there must be a multitude of stories in those lines and folds and shadowed spaces.
I fervently hope that once the snow returns it will remain as it should and I will not see those rocks again. Yet somehow it changes things, when one has seen the long kept secrets a formerly forbidding mountain holds inside. I will always know what I have seen there. I wonder if the mountain knows?

With no rain for 12 weeks and temperatures pushing towards 40 degrees at times the New Forest heathland has taken a battering with only patchy colour in the heather - normally transformed to purple, now burnt and dead-looking largely. It has also meant tress and ferns dressing for autumn a couple of months early so where there is summer colour it leads to a strange, but attractive colour palette. More worrying is that I've seen much less birdlife and wildlife than usual - perhaps its just me? It does make you wonder what our seasons are going to become as climate change seems to gather pace.
Monday : The Hawk was gone ( Killed by the Game keeper ) and the little Bunnies danced.
Tuesday : the Fox was gone ( Killed by the Hunter ) and the little Bunnies danced.
Wednesday the Fish was gone ( Killed by the Plastic man ) and the little Bunnies danced.
Thursday the tree was gone ( Killed by the Palm oil man ) and the little Bunnies danced.
Friday the Man was gone ( Killed by the Warmonger ) and the little Bunnies danced.
Tomorrow the Earth is gone ( Killed by the Politician ) NO BUNNIES

Street and Reportage photography from Glasgow, Scotland. This was the Friday School Strike in George Square, Glasgow, as part of the climate change movement started by Greta Thunberg.
A hundred and more school children were engaged in good-natured chanting and singing in full voice directly opposite Glasgow City Hall, and guarded by a line of police officers who did not take too kindly to me walking in the road to get these shots (even though I was moving past stationary traffic).

Wind turbines - that reduce? CO2 - built by the thousands at great cost to the electricity consumer.

This power station will eventually be reclaimed by the sea. I simply moved the process of reclamation on a little.

I digitalized analogue photos, taken during a congress in Luzern. showing swiss posters against the climate change. these photos are 25 years old, and the posters were made 25 years after the warnings of the ClubOfRome. Result: mankind seems to be stupid. and maybe the stupidness is increasing.

At the border to the Hambach open cast lignite mine, RWE Power AG has built a high earth wall (parallel to the old A4 motorway).
Nature quickly conquered this desert. However, this does not replace the ecotope which evolved in approximately 12,000 years with its many plant and animal species.

Die Natur erobert sich diese Wüste schnell zurück. Dies ersetzt aber nicht das in ca. 12000 Jahren gewachsene Ökotop mit vielen Pflanzen- und Tierarten.
