Until now it looked as if mankind was making this planet uninhabitable 'only' by its irresponsible use of natural resources ... as described in the latest UN’s 2022 climate impacts report,
but now Russia's despicable war against Ukraine, contrary to any international law, has been added to the mix ... !:-((

Just read an interesting and very worrying article "Melting Arctic: ‘It’s a very different Svalbard" find it here www.climatechangenews.com/2016/11/22/melting-arctic-its-a...
An article written by Karl Mathiesen, he describes how even in late November Longyearben is free from ice,
I quote “It is a very different Svalbard that we are seeing now. The fjord doesn’t freeze and there were people fishing for cod just last week still; and that the cod themselves are in the fjord is an indication of a warmer ocean,”
Well worth reading the article.

UNITED STATES - June 2023: Hurricane Dorian, which made landfall on September 6, 2019 cut a total of 54 new inlets through the North Core Banks of the Cape Lookout National Seashore. The NPS said 38 structures at the Portsmouth historic site suffered major damage from either flooding or high winds. Portsmouth was established in 1753 and was a bustling port town early in its history before turning into a fishing village. Its last two residents left for the mainland in 1971. Almost all of the mature trees in the village were lost. (Photo By Douglas Graham)
"Fossil fuels subsidies 'jeopardising climate', say major investors"-Karl Mathiesen @KarlMathiesen #ClimateChangeNews @ClimateChangeNe #FossilFuelsKill ow.ly/ileE3092R75
The global size of the climate change problem requires a radical re-think about the purpose and format of the annual gathering of tens of thousands of people from all countries of the world to focus on actions rather than just negotiating about action.

UNITED STATES - June 2023: Howard Street is a North Carolina treasure. No other street has the history and charm it boasts. When visiting the island be sure to include a stroll down historic Howard Street. In the mid 1950’s Stacey Howard nailed a wooden sign on a tree in front of his home which declared the road “East Howard Street,” the name by which it is still known today. At the time Stacey posted his sign, no fewer than eight families of Howards lived on or owned property along this street. In addition, numerous small Howard family cemeteries lined the road, surrounded by moss-covered wooden fences and gnarled live oak trees. Until recently, Howard Street was deep, soft sand in many places. Residents walked barefoot through the ruts left by horse-drawn carts, and later, automobiles. Today the road has been stabilized with shells and gravel. (Photo By Douglas Graham)

UNITED STATES - June 2023: Brothers Rudy and Donald Austin, both former ferry captains, offer boat tours to historic Portsmouth Island. Departing daily from Silver Lake Harbor at the dock shared by the Watermen's Museum, the Austins are excellent guides for local history as well. You can explore the historic village or beach or both. All trips are weather permitting. (Photo By Douglas Graham)

UNITED STATES - June 2023: Ocracoke Island lighthouse, North Carolina. Ocracoke Light was built in Hyde County, on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina in 1823 by Massachusetts builder Noah Porter. The lighthouse stands 75-feet tall. Its diameter narrows from 25-feet at the base to 12 feet at its peak. It is the oldest operating lighthouse in North Carolina and the second oldest in the United States (the oldest being Sandy Hook Light in New Jersey). During the summer months when there is a U.S. Park Ranger on duty, visitors may enter the base of the lighthouse. (Photo By Douglas Graham)
UNITED STATES - June 2023: Beacon Island, a small marshy island near Ocracoke Inlet. Surrounding it are seagrass flats, shallow waters, and oyster bars. Its now 2 acres down from 22 acres since 2017 because of the increase of severe storms and tidal surges due to climate change. The little island has been a rich habitat for nesting birds such as Brown Pelican, American Oystercatcher, Laughing Gull, and Forster’s Tern. It will most likely disappear over the next decade, if not sooner.
The island’s claim to fame lies with its pelicans. It was on Beacon Island that Brown Pelicans were first recorded breeding in North Carolina in 1928. The population ran into trouble with the widespread use of DDT and other pesticides, and the species was placed on the Endangered Species List in 1970. Some chemicals caused direct mortality, while DDT caused many bird species’ numbers to plummet by accumulating in their fatty tissue and causing their eggshells to be too thin to support the weight of the incubating parents. Following the ban of DDT in 1972, pelicans began to do better, and Beacon Island was the site of their first comeback in North Carolina. Now, as many as 900 pairs of Brown Pelicans may nest on the tiny Island.

UNITED STATES - June 2023: This little home, now raised up 12 to 15 feet is known as Marsh Haven, it used to sit at ground level. Over 50 historic homes built from ship wrecks along the coast of Ocracoke are gone now. Marsh Heaven is the former home of author Pat Garber and the basis for her new book, My Shining Palace book: A love song to Ocracoke Island 1984, 2019. It was for the most part destroyed in September of 2019, when Hurricane Dorian swept across the small island of Ocracoke with a 7 foot storm surge. Garber was not financially stable enough to rebuild as she had in the past. (Photo By Douglas Graham)
