Hundreds of young activists joined an inspiring Youth Climate Strike in Santa Rosa, to demand action on climate change.
This North Bay strike was organized by young climate activists Lucy London and Kelley Tillman, along with their peers at the Novato High Earth Club. They gave speeches, sang together, made posters, marched on City Hall and created a beautiful mosaic to honor mother earth.
Over a million students around the world skipped school this Friday to protest government inaction on climate change, with thousands of rallies in 125 countries, making it the largest youth climate action in history.
Their peaceful demonstration in Santa Rosa was very moving: these young people are sweet, smart, articulate, dedicated and they share an amazing creative energy and love for the earth. I want to be like them when I grow up!
Our Green Change team supported their youth action by providing a sound system, a large earth globe, and shooting videos and photos of their uprising. Thanks to our crew members Sarah Acker and Marilyn Price for their invaluable support of this important cause. :)
In coming weeks, I will create a special video story featuring Lucy, Kelley and their friends for Climate Heroes, our new series on the new leaders of the green revolution.
Even though this was a youth-led event, they welcomed the help of adult allies like us. It was a pleasure to join forces with these young leaders to fight for climate action together, across generations!

Green Change hosted a Clean Transportation Meetup at Good Earth in Mill Valley on July 23, 2019, to discuss how we can fight climate change by using different modes of transportation: ride clean vehicles, use public transit, drive less and walk or bike more.
This free community meetup was moderated by Fabrice Florin and featured short talks by these guest speakers:
• Stephanie Moulton-Peters - Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM)
• Carleen Cullen - Drive Clean Marin
• Karen Wiener - The New Wheel
• Wendi Kallins - Sustainable Marin
• Patrick Seidler - Wilderness Trail Bikes
We presented these climate actions that people can take to use clean transportation:
• Get an Electric Car
• Get an Electric Bike
• Take Public Transit
• Drive Smart
• Ride a Bike
• Walk More
After the talks, we discussed our personal experiences about using clean transportation in our own lives, connecting experts with people who are just getting started.
This free community event was sponsored by Good Earth Natural Foods and took place in the new community room at their Mill Valley store. GreenChange.net will host more climate action meetups in this room in fall 2019.

We celebrated Earth Day at the Green Living Festival in Novato, where our Green Change team hosted a booth, took photos of participants and gave a workshop on climate action. Hundreds of people joined this free community event, which included music, talks and playful activities. Dozens of environmental groups had booths to help people learn practical ways to live a green and healthy life.
In our Green Change booth, we greeted visitors of all ages and backgrounds, inviting them to play a fun trivia game with questions about climate change and how we can fight it together. Dozens of people signed up for our climate action network, and we discussed partnerships with a number of other nonprofit groups at the event.
We also took photos of people who pledged to take climate action, asking them to write their pledge in big letters, hold up their sign and have their picture taken against our 6-foot earth globe. It was inspiring to see all the diverse actions that people plan to take this year: driving electric vehicles, eating less meat, walking more, using less plastic and dozens more. It gave us hope that if everyone does their part, we can solve the global climate crisis together.
At the end of the day, Green Change director Fabrice Florin hosted a climate action workshop with young activist Lucy London and a dozen participants. We first talked about what led each of us to make a green change in our lives, then invited participants to take the climate challenge with us. We presented our top 10 recommended actions for going green, including using renewable energy, eating sustainably, driving clean vehicles and more.
We also talked about the Green Change Network and the various ways in which we help each other go green. People seemed to appreciate this fun, convivial conversation and this chance to connect with other like minds. We ended the workshop with a lovely song by Lucy and her friend Kelley Tillman. They both lead the Novato High Earth Club, where they combine art, music and activism -- and they have been wonderful partners for us.
Many thanks to Gretchen Schubeck, Robert Gould and the City of Novato for hosting this event, as well as to our amazing Green Change team: Tom Flynn, Al Grumet, his son Gus and wife Sonia, Ilse Gonzalez, Kelly Horner, Marilyn Price and Silke Valentine. This was our first public event this season, and we worked really well together. It was really inspiring for us to meet so many people who were ready to go green with us. Change is coming.

Global warming is no fiction.
Respect to all the young and old climate marchers.
There are many haters of the current #youthforclimate movement on the social media.. and those haters are usually the 1st ones to complain about the heatwaves, floodings, storm winds, drought, monsoonlike rain, extreme weather, dirty beaches and all the other examples of the changing climate and the environmental degradation.
Humanity is responsible for both so humanity should work towards solutions and the young are the engine of change.
