Your website is often seen as your "front door" to your business. Therefor you need to put as much thought into your online presence and your online niche marketing possible, as this is your window to your online business.
Web Design Analysis - Est Time: 1 to 3 Hours
Open your website. Think of yourself as a new visitor to your site, and ask these web design analysis questions. Or even better, have a respected colleague who hasn’t seen your site previously and have them respond to the following points
1. What areas do you look at straight away?
You only have around 3 to 5 seconds to GRAB a new prospects attention on your website. It’s your priority to workout and test, what keeps your prospects on your site, what’s critically important to them, that when they see your headline, they look twice and think “This Site Is For Me!”
2. Can you see what the site is about INSTANTLY?
Knowing that you have under 10 seconds to put your message to your visitors. Does your site have a lot of distractions which take them away from your single key message?
3. Is your most important information “easily seen?”
You have to be able to tell your visitors in a single sentence, or one line, the problem you help them solve, so they stay on your site. If they cannot see this without scrolling down (we call this having information “Above The Fold”) then it’s very likely your visitors will leave without reading it, as there will be no emotional connection or reward for them to stay on your site. So make sure your “Call To Action” and tagline are high up on your site. When I do a web design analysis, this one critical area is often overlooked and is probably WHY most websites and blogs have very short stay times from visitors.
4. Is the benefit of your product/service easily found?
You need to very quickly help a visitor to your website identify the benefits of what you offer. Try not to put the features before your benefits, because while features have their place, it’s what YOU CAN DO for someone that is going to keep them interested. Testimonials are fantastic, but if you can offer video versions of your testimonials then that’s tribute that your clients love what you do, and have them offer their phone number for “REALISM” of the testimonial, it’s all too easy these days to hire actors to have instant testimonials… The amount of calls from a visitor to a testimonial will be absolutely minimal anyway, but the effect of a phone number being attached is incredible!... Test this with your web design analysis reviews now and in the future and monitor it's progress, you'll notice a big jump in response rates from it.
5. Is there a definite call to action?
The concept of a simple “Call To Action” is so simple, that a lot of web masters, make it complex. So in this web design analysis process... Once you have your visitors liking what they see, then you need to give them a couple of options toward your “Most Wanted Response” only. You might offer a free product, or the alternative might be a trial for $1 for a month, then they decide… But whatever you do, don’t confuse your visitors with too many options and make the “Call To Action” clearly and quickly.

8. Keep paragraph sizes to a maximum 4 lines?
Large paragraphs of 5 lines or more, will be overlooked a lot of the time, eye tests have proven, so keep your paragraphs to 2 or 3 lines (4 max).
9. Are menus clear and precise?
Keep your menu’s clear and to the point. Menu navigation and site usability is very easily overlooked and is one of the main causes visitors leave (through frustration). Be sure to have at least a “Contact Us” and “About Us” menu option, plus your critical products / services.
10. Can you find contact details easily?
Be sure to show your contact details / phone number PROMINENTLY on your site. Use a service such as a Toll Free number, or internet based service like Skype or “Click to Call” so they can contact you from anywhere for free. If you get this right, you’ll have broken one of the biggest barriers that businesses face… Not enough inbound, ready to buy leads!
11. Are you able to see more about the owner and staff easily?
Your visitors want to know you and you’re staff are real. It’s quite often not enough to have an “About Us” page any longer, you need a staff profiles page, with videos (and at least photo’s) of your staff. The more you can do to make this real and relatable, the more enquiries you’ll receive!
12. Is there a personal connection?
As we’ve mentioned before, using videos to relate to your visitors and clients is incredibly powerful, use open and honest styles of communication and you will be simply in a class of your own. From web design analysis that's been carried out on hundreds of sites it's also been proven that some form of LIVE chat connection really helps boost trust, relatability and inbound sales calls... 15. What’s your KILLER offer?
Your offer from your opt-in box, needs to offer real VALUE! It must solve a problem they’re having right there and then, so put a price on what the free offer is worth. You could offer a free phone consult, real implementation advice, special deals that will instantly make life easier for your visitors. You need to really stack the value here, show your prospects that what their getting is so valuable that they would need to pay for it elsewhere but you're giving it away for free, be the hub of valuable free information and your paid services will thrive, this is a critical web design analysis point that often comes up when I do critiques for my consulting businesses and once we have this sorted, response rates always improve and so to re-visits and new purchases.
16. Can you see multimedia?
As we’ve discussed before, videos are a great way to establish trust and a real connection to your audience. But don’t stop there, use audios, podcasts, tutorials, online video casts to engage your prospects in new ways that really appeal to them, options keep your clients open to how they’ll communicate with you.
17. Are there social media links?
Your communication to your prospects through social media and social web design analysis can be incredibly powerful. It allows them to follow you in any number of ways, for example Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs and it goes on and on, but those are the main ones. If you make it easy for people to follow you by putting badges to these on your pages, then you open up a whole new world of communication, especially those who don’t feel they want to fill in their details into your opt-in box, you can capture them elsewhere.
