In 1928, the 1,200-foot-long wooden fishing and pleasure pier was constructed at no cost to local citizens. In 1939, and again in 1983, strong storms damaged the pier requiring it to be rebuilt.
The San Clemente Pier was once one of Orange County's entry points for smuggling liquor into California during the U.S. prohibition era.
The 6th Street Bridge, built in 1928, spans the Allegheny River in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1928,this steel suspension bridge was renamed the Roberto Clemente Bridge, honoring the beloved Baseball Hall of Fame right fielder who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
There is a large statue of Roberto Clemente near the bridge, in front of the PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The sun is just beginning to poke through the morning gray skies as H-BARSDG1-26A hugs the narrow shelf along the Pacific Ocean just south of San Clemente, CA. Freight or no freight, this is an absolutely wonderful place to spend a few hours. It was a welcome respite after spending the previous two days in dumpy Kern County and the industrial grittiness of East LA.
We have visited this beach many times in our years in Orange County, so every time is a challenge to produce different photos.
One of the nearly identical 3 "sister" bridges that span the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh PA. Originally named the 6th street bridge (The other sisters were named the 7th & 9th st bridges) the bridge was renamed in 1998 in memory of Roberto Clemente an all-time great Pittsburgh Pirate Right Fielder.
Under the San Clemente Pier at night. The orange light comes from the lights up on the pier shining down on the water. This long exposure gave an eerie look to the bottom of the pier.
I've been working in San Clemente for over 3 years now, and have very few shots from here. I decided to finally go out shooting monday night, but missed most of the color and light due to work, Stay tuned for the next storm that passes through.

They will be painting this bridge and two others like it on the same river very soon. They will retain the same gold color as voted on by the citizenry.

A friend's parents lived in San Clemente and when in the area I always tried to go down around the pier and take some photos around sunset. The roads & freeways have so much traffic, parking almost impossible, so many homeless people, most things are expensive, etc., that I have avoided going to the Southern California coast the last few years.
I got quite a few shots of this photogenic girl from the pier yesterday. I really like the detail in the large.
