Jon Cleary group was one of the highlights Havana Jazz festival. The New Orleans party guys invited some of the best Cuban horn players for this gig at La Fabrica. Emir was probably the busiest guy with sax at this year festival. I've seen him in 3 concerts, but he played in several more. Santa Cruz -sax, Trumpet- Christian Figueredo, Trombone-Juan Carlos Marin.
Plus 2 monster Percussionists: Yaroldy Abreu (Cuba) and Pedro Segundo (Portugal). There was also barisax, but his name escaped me.

Santa Cruz -saxo, Trompeta- Christian Figueredo, Trombón-Juan Carlos Marin.

Jon Cleary, British born, Grammy-winning New Orleans pianist, guitarist and singer. The best concert, in the best venue I have seen this year in Havana. The band included a Monster Cuban horn section. The jam-packed room in 'La Fabrica', the best place to hear concert in Havana, was in a party mood, swinging and swaying. Band members were Jon Cleary (keys, guitar, vocals), Cornell Williams (bass and vocals), AJ Hall (drums and vocals). 2 monster percussionists: Yaroldy Abreu (Cuba) and Pedro Segundo (Portugal), plus Monster Horn section: Emir Santa Cruz -sax, Trumpet- Christian Figueredo, Trombone-Juan Carlos Marin.
This concert alone was compensation enough for the cold showers, low water pressure, or no water at all, lousy breakfast, weak coffee and other shortcomings, in my Havana hotel.

The forecast was for a very active aurora tonight, so I went to Cleary Summit (a pass in the White Mountains northeast of Fairbanks.
While the forecast wasn't especially accurate, this is a good place to get a view with the higher altitude and a good view to the northeast.
The bright spot is the moon, which doesn't get very big with the fisheye lens.
CP 384-219 had a nice CIT SD90MAC leading in the attractive blue paint, so I ran over to Howard in Des Plaines for a shot. Love those blue upside down "V" chevrons!
Taken from Cleary Summit northeast of Fairbanks Alaska. Note the airplane flying thru the exposure with each flash of the strobes recorded.
Fans are leaving flowers and others tributes to Beverly Cleary at this sculpture garden named for the Portland-based author. The majority of Cleary's books are set in the Grant Park neighborhood of northeast Portland, Oregon, where she was raised.

The occasion was the 150th anniversary of the start of bus services in London. There was a rally in Hyde Park. Preceding that was a road run featuring numerous historic buses - all lead by the replica of the original George Shilibeer Omnibus of 1829 (that had been built in 1929).
Michael took pictures in Pentonville Road and at Kings Cross.

Michael had a night out on the very limited night services that ran in those days.
He has found the single bus on route N82. This operated a few trips between Woolwich and New Cross - but this one is starting from Eltham (Well Hall). There is some sort of destination slip board in the windscreen. This service was one of the very few that ran on Saturday nights. Obviously they ran very few buses on the night of maximum demand! But then quite a lot of what London Transport did made little sense....
I think this route served more as a staff bus than anything else. Either way it was crew-operated!

It seems that at least two members of staff owned
impressive cars!
I love the way that the geolocation has tagged this as Uxbridge. As strictly speaking it isn't, being located outside Greater London in an area that technically could be called' 'Willowbank' or 'New Denham'. However, if you take a picture at Uxbridge station or in Uxbridge High Street, it tags that as 'Willowbank'!
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. In or around July 1979. This is the old WH garage. Its on a new site today.

This is RMC4 - one of the 4 original prototype Routemasters and the only one that continued in normal service after the original trials.
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Late 1982/early 83 I believe. Note the LS with a dot-matrix blind.
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Spring 1981. The 639 ran for just six months in 1981. It employed one bus M-F peaks and linked Kings Cross with the Vale Royal area off York Road. For the first 3 months it was a 'Red Arrow' SMS from Victoria garage, then it changed to LS after the SMSs were withdrawn. The SMS acquired a proper blind after a while, replacing the home made one seen here!

With the break up of London Buses into 'districts', then 'units', Leaside and London Northern decided that upper case, rather than lower case lettering was preferable for intermediate points on the blinds.

I believe this was an emergency extra operating on route 38 between Victoria and Tottenham Court Road. The reason being an emergency suspension of the Victoria Line. This bus would usually be employed on route 333 under contract to the Lee Valley Park.
Good grief - what on earth does that geolocation mean!???

The 'Shoplinker' was an unsuccessful service tried out at the time linking Central London shops.

The 24 was a high-profile tender win by Grey-Green. The first time that an independent had taken over a trunk Central London service. Clearly on the last night they had put out RM 804 to mark the occasion. One of the more usual OPO Titans is seen alongside at Hampstead Heath.
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Late 1987 I believe. Red Rover of Aylesbury were clearly operating some services in Milton Keynes.
Don't know what this 1965 ex-Nottingham AEC Renown was doing. It says 'not in service'.
Location appears to be Milton Keynes bus station.

This seems to be Aldgate. This was probably a garage run for a Christmas lights special.
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Early 1988. I wonder if this was the first day of this ill-fated venture in January 1988? Hired Hull and Greater Manchester Atlanteans were employed by Maidstone Boro'line until new buses arrived.

There is something odd going on here. That M overtaking has just called at the 'dolly stop' visible behind. If you look amid that gaggle of 'passengers' in the shelter you can see an apparent lighting rig. Also note the 'sound man' with headphones. The bus has adverts for the new 25p flat fare in outer London (more are visible in a rear shot I haven't uploaded). I think I recall that the publicity for this featured an 'M' on route 110. They could have chosen a better day to do this!
Note that 25p was still actually a pretty substantial sum in those days. See below for more details in the comments.

This wasn't a traditional LCBS route. Surprising vehicle too, especially as it was brand new. A slip board says 'Wembley', but I don't think it was going there!
Doesn't seem to be doing much business...

Don't know what was going on there - but clearly that RMA has been converted to open-top and to have a door suitable for driving on the right.
Stagecoach had been using it on route 15: www.flickr.com/photos/9003948@N05/37888853821
On 'Bus Lists on the Web' it says "converted to open top after export". Clearly that isn't correct.

The 725 clearly had an allocation from Addlestone garage. Nor do I recall the route going to Woking.
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. I believe this was the last day of London Buses operation on route 24, plus RM operation on routes 29 & 135 - 4th November 1988.
RM804 came out to play (the route was OPO T type by this date).
Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. I will be uploading any I think may be of interest. None were catalogued. Where I know the approximate date I will state it. Similarly I will give the location.
This was an early attempt at an area tendering scheme. Some secondhand Ailsas were bought from West Midlands Travel to reduce costs. This is Watford Junction.
