Inter-station night bus

Some pictures taken by the late Michael Cleary. Late 1980/Early 1981.

This service used to link the main London terminals at night, though only at weekends. It used to be a collection of random journeys that were once timed to meet certain overnight trains. In typical LT fashion the bus timetable remained unchanged, even though, over the years, the trains were withdrawn or re-timed! Later it became an hourly clockwise circuit of the main stations. A much better use of the one bus employed. Judging by the blind I imagine that this had happened by this date.

I expect Michael went for a ride as the MD was replaced by a DM in January 1981. The service was crew-operated. I understand that the conductor was liable to go 'touting' on the station concourse!

This is Paddington.
