Another successful spring cleanup at Sand Point! Our party of 10 hauled a great deal of debris off the coast as part of CoastSavers' Washington Coast Cleanup.
The cleanup was well attended at Ozette. We saw many other volunteers on the coast and on the trail. By the time we left on Sunday the dumpster was overflowing with garbage.

Cleanup at Redondo Beach. Over 14,000 volunteers took part in Coastal Cleanup Day in Los Angeles County, cleaning up beaches, parks, alleys, creeks, highways and storm drains at 69 different sites. Over 300,000 pounds of debris and recyclables were removed by the various environmental organizations, community groups, families, local businesses, faith-based organizations and students that took part. In August 2012, 35 volunteers took to the Sangamon River and trails to clean up garbage and clear invasive bush honeysuckle from Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet, Ill. The joint effort was coordinated by the Illinois RiverWatch Network and the Upper Sangamon River Conservancy (USRC) with support from the Illinois EPA’s SCALE Grant Program and Republic Services. In five hours, volunteers removed an estimated two tons (dry weight) of garbage from the river, including 24 tires, a water heater, a dishwasher, two clothes washers, several 55-gallon drums (including an herbicide container), three bicycles, a cash register (curiously found beneath the I-74 overpass) and a kiddie pool, not to mention the innumerable bags of everyday household litter like food wrappers and soda bottles. | Photos courtesy of Bruce Colravy

Even the street had a tremendous amount of grass and debris accumulated along the curb!
This group is of the clean up that was done a few weeks after the Graffiti shoot. Lots of kids from the Paterson Schools and from surrounding schools.

The Patapsco Heritage Greenway hosted a cleanup day at the Avalon Area to continue restoration efforts from the flood in late July.

Green Fins - Beach, Community and Reef Cleanup on White Beach, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines
The Reef-World Foundation, supported by many partners and friends, held a Clean Up Event last Wednesday on the 2nd February 2011 on White Beach in Puerto Galera, a popular diving destination in the Philippines.
The event was managed by Reef-World, sponsored by Marco Vincent Dive Resort and supported by Guli Divers – two new Green Fins Dive Centres. Clean Up events are incredibly effective at firstly removing damaging litter from the natural environment, but also to raise awareness of the negative impact litter can have on marine life. The Reef-World staff held a training session with the participating dive centre staff the night before the event to let people know how best to collect rubbish without damaging the environment and how plastic can harm marine life, such as plastic bags being ingested by marine turtles and cetaceans which will ultimately kill them.
The event was also hugely supported by the Local Government Unit with the Barangay (Village) Captain and the SIBROA, San Isidro Beach Resort Owners Association helping to promote the event and encourage the participation of the local community and make sure the rubbish was collected and removed responsibly. This included the various Associations including the Banka (Boat) crews, The Vendors Association and the local Beach Masseuse Association as well as representatives from The Puerto Galera Municipal Employees Cooperative known as PGMECO, came along and got their hands dirty.
Over 80 people gathered on the beach during the cool morning hours and worked hard to remove rubbish from along the beach and in the surrounding village. A big effort was made to explain how this will have a positive impact on the local environment, and the implications this will have on the livelihoods of the local people. A group of 9 divers from Marco Vincent Divers and Guli Divers then cleaned up a local reef which catches a lot of rubbish being washed out of a river close by.
The stakes were raised as 1,000 pesos was awarded to the participant who managed to guess what the total weight of rubbish collected from land over the course of the day was. The final weight was 340.25 kg (including the underwater cleanup) and the prize money was awarded to Ms. Venancia Viena from the PGMECO. At the end of the day all the rubbish was moved to the back of the beach and was then collected by the rubbish truck from SIBROA to be disposed of responsibly.

Living Lands and Waters (LLW), an Illinois-based non-profit dedicated to cleaning up America’s rivers, spent nearly two weeks hosting volunteer clean-up days on the Delaware River. Held Aug. 20 through Sept. 2, the clean-up effort was sponsored in part by Philadelphia Water and resulted in the removal over 35,000 pounds of trash. Here, volunteers from Philadelphia Water and the Delaware River Basin Commission join the LLW crew for a Sept. 1 clean-up just north of the Betsy Ross Bridge that netted 26 large bags of recyclable bottles and 17 30-gallon bags of non-recyclable trash. More than 700 volunteers cleared the James River and its banks of trash and recyclables on Sept. 10, 2016. The cleanup covered 17 sites in the cities of Richmond, Newport News, Petersburg and Lynchburg, and Chesterfield, Henrico, Goochland, Powhatan, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charles City and Isle of Wight counties. This is the 17th year for the cleanup, which is organized by the James River Advisory Council, jrac-va.org.
