I dedicate this picture to clean water. Why you say? Weird you say?
Too many people don't realize how lucky they are to have clean water, even I didn't think much of it, until today.
I don't have to walk a many miles everyday just to get a little water to drink, wash myself, my home and clothes...to use in cooking, barely enough, sometimes not even enough.
I'm so thankful, and everyone should be as well, if they have access to clean water.
"Even in our own homes, we use high quality drinkable water for washing our cars, flushing the toilet, watering our plants; excessive? What would happen if we were some day out of fresh water? Countries go to war for oil; would people go to war for water?
We'll always need clean water. It's good to get a reminder every now & then that we can't take our water for granted."

Yesterday I flew my buddy's Beechcraft V35 Bonanza over Sooke Lake Reservoir and got a good look at Deception Reservoir Dam.
Sooke Lake contains water storage for Victoria's drinking water and Deception Dam is for flood control and maintaining water level flows downstream in Sooke River.
Something one hears about but seldom sees.

This little creek runs alongside the Great Trail (Canada Trail) in the Chilliwack River Valley. Reflections in the pond caught my eye, so I stopped to take a closer look. It came as a surprise to see a sandy bottomed pond, a little oasis, in the thick forest with easy access from the GT.

The Bogey Hole is to the south of Newcastle Beach, and truly is a terrific spot to swim a few laps, or just cool down in the summer.
On my way down to the bogey hole, I had to take this photo, of the beautiful sky, crystal clear water with blue and aqua hues, and a lovely shadow being cast right in front of me by the timber fence and long coastal walk.
The Vedder River runs through the city of Chilliwack in BC’s Fraser Valley. The sandbars on the river create swimming and sunbathing opportunities for families in the summer months. The Rotary Trail circles the river and provides access to the river for fishers, cyclists, hikers. This natural park is one of the best reasons to visit Chilliwack.

The Lorax
Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax appeared in the 1970s at the start of the environmental movement, just before the first anniversary of Earth Day. Dr. Seuss later called The Lorax straight propaganda, a polemic against pollution. The main point of the book is “The basic message of The Lorax deals with ecosystems and the interrelatedness of all parts - living and non-living - as a viable, functioning unit." Environmental impact is told from a simplistic yet environmentally accurate viewpoint, demonstrating the conflict between natural resources and man-made production. The story starts with what was called the Once-ler, telling the story of the local natural history and how it was once home to the Lorax, the one who speaks for the trees because trees have no tongues. This natural habitat, home to the Truffula Trees, was quickly taken advantage of by the greed of the Once-ler. The Once-ler cut down all of the Truffula Trees to make thneeds which he claims everyone needs (a marketing slogan). Through this deforestation and pursuit of economic growth by the Once-ler, the lakes, skies, and land in the area become polluted, all the creatures who inhabit them are forced to leave, and all of the Truffula Trees are cut down. The Once-ler is the sign of consumerism where he only cares about business and money. Drier States “The Once-ler cares only about making more things and more money. "Business is business! / And business must grow," he says. At the end however, surveying the devastation he has caused, the Once-ler shows remorse. He says to the young boy in the end that Truffula Trees (instead of thneeds) are what everyone needs, and that new ones should be grown, given clean water and fresh air, and should be protected. The book attacks corporate greed and excessive consumerism.”
Another message within the reading suggests that young children need to be taught about the environment and how to live in a sustainable way in order to preserve what we have. The children need to learn about how to live without degrading the environment, so that future generations have a clean place to live. This is shown in The Lorax by the Once-ler educating the small boy about the dangers of pollution and degradation of the environment, and by giving him the last Truffula seed so that new ones can be grown. -

"It is not about what
IT IS
It is about what it can
BECOME"
“The Lorax: Which way does a tree fall?
The Once-ler: Uh, down?
The Lorax: A tree falls the way it leans. Be careful which way you lean.”
"And the turtles of course…
All the turtles are free
as turtles and, maybe,
all creatures should be".
“Catch! calls the Once-ler.
He lets something fall.
It's a Truffula Seed.
It's the last one of all!
You're in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds.
And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs.
Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.
Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack.
Then the Lorax
and all of his friends
may come back.”
“But now," says the Once-ler, "now that you're here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

Water… For this week’s Macro Mondays theme, I put on my boots, went up to the marsh and dipped out one jar of water to photograph. It was teeming with goodies – weeds and dirt, silt, a spider running across the surface, mosquito larvae and other insects swimming around, a couple little leeches, and one Eastern Red-Spotted Newt.
