Silverpeak far right. The white line almost points to Alcatraz Island. The dunes are only faintly visible in the shadow of Split Mountain middle left. I also shot the dunes near sunset on this same day, much closer.
WM 7446 leads HA-1 south out of Clayton on a balmy November afternoon. Wasn't expecting this unit to be leading south, its always been north facing on previous previous visits, so the chase was most definitely on!
Clayton Falls is on the Clayton Falls Creek that is a short walk from the BC Ferries terminal in Bella Coola BC
Nestling in the foot of the beautiful South Downs, just to the north of Brighton, Clayton Tunnel North Portal is a truly unique building. Every day hundreds of trains hurtle under this Gothic folly whose imposing castellated towers protect the old tunnel keeper's cottage.

1950s cottage in Clayton. These are typically about 120m^2, more or less on around 530 to 700m^2 blocks.
Enjoy their charm while you can. They are being torn down and replaced by 350 to 480m^2 thumpers

A fellow photographer, possibly a Flickrite, nabs a shot of D8568 departing Highley, SVR, 21st May 2022
Dutchtown is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. It is called "Dutch" from Deutsch, i.e., "German", as it was the southern center of German-American settlement in St. Louis in the early 19th century.[2] It was the original site of Concordia Seminary (before it relocated to Clayton, Missouri), Concordia Publishing House, Lutheran Hospital, and other German community organizations. The German Cultural Society still has its headquarters there. St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church towers over the neighborhood and is a symbol of the neighborhood. - Courtesy Wikipedia

Sunrise in the Mt. Diablo foothills near Clayton, CA. I hiked up in the dark though some slick mud and sharp wind, not sure if the storm would break enough to get a photo.
I shot something else altogether under some drab overcast and then decided to pack up and continue up a trail to scout compositions for next time. As I paused at this rock outcrop, suddenly the sun popped out from behind the cloud mass to backlight the drizzle. You can't see the rain falling due to my shutter speed, but I was quite happy with the unexpected treat. Of course, after 5-10 minutes or so, it was all over and back to grey flat light.
This is a single frame, 3-exposure(-2, 0, +2 ev) manual blend. Lens is the D FA 55mm f/2.8.
Hope you like it.
Clayton Type 1 Bo-Bo D8558 with its fully fitted van train from Dundee/Perth has crossed over on to the Glasgow-Edinburgh line at Saughton Junction on 6 August 1966 before taking the South Suburban line and heading for Millerhill Marshalling yard. The Clayton was producing much more black smoke that the V2 steam loco that followed it off the line from the north!
BR 'Clayton' Type 1s at Polmadie shed, in around 1970, with D8531 nearest the camera, and blue-liveried D8503 behind..
The class were unloved and unreliable, and some only lasted around 5 years in service.. D8531 entered service in May 1963, and was withdrawn in September 1971, and scrapped in September 1975. D8503 entered service in October 1962, and was withdrawn in October 1971, and scrapped in June 1962. Amazingly, one example has survived, after some years in industrial use, and D8568 operated on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway for some years, and is today (2022) at the Severn Valley Railway, being overhauled, and has recently been painted in BR Blue livery (which it never carried in BR days)..
Polmadie shed had closed to steam in 1967, but was then redeveloped as a traction and maintenance depot, and is still in use today.

Even through the lingering cloud cover the sunrise still found it's way through to the Clayton water tower.
Former Mission Motel. I believe it was originally the Mission Court(s), an old motor court motel, on US 87 and US 64. The Mission Motel had a phone and TV in every room! Permanently closed.
