Seven of the next 10 days have snow in the forecast, so I thought I'd better get out this morning, just in case the weather forecast turns out to be right. Such a beautiful morning once the sun came out. Met a few friends down at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and though there was not all that much to see, we did have a pair of gorgeous Hooded Mergansers fly in and land on the lagoon. I've only ever seen these from a great distance, but today they were a little closer and I think I have finally got a few closer shots.

I saw Sasha in the Cardiff Bay area and asked her if I could photograph her duo colour hairstyle. She said OK and I thought it would be ideal for the 113 pictures in 2013 theme clashing colours. Sasha's favourite hair colours are purple and orange.

Clach an Truisheil (Trushal Stone) is the tallest standing stone in Scotland at about 19 ft tall. It was part of a 5000 year old stone circle on the Isle of Lewis. That is me dwarfed by the stone. My wife did the photography and I did some processing..
The Clash, ‘London Calling’, 1979. The thing about lockdown is, it does throw up spare time. I found myself the other day listening to this. To be honest, I hadn’t listened to it in ages. I know every lick and heard it a million times, so, why bother? Know what? It still kills. The difficult third album. For younger readers, third-album-syndrome is where a band makes their debut, (usually their stage set honed to perfection from countless gigs), the second album not so good as they used all the good songs for the first album and they haven’t had time to write more decent tunes. Thus, the third album is make or break. Time to deliver on the promise: you’ve got a fanbase, but you can’t just do same old, same old. ‘London Calling’ is a masterclass. Recorded 3 years after their debut, and certainly compared to their second album, they are evolved beings.
The title song is the one everyone knows, so, that’s a given. I usually skip it. The rest of the album has feckin everything. Roots reggae, funk, Lover’s Rock, anthems, almost Springsteen rock, Spanish tinges, Ska, old skool rock n roll, Stax horns, rock, all with punky energy. Joe Strummer’s on fire with his lyrics: “He who fucks nuns will later join the church” and “No man born with a living soul/Can be working for the clampdown” being personal faves. Mickey Gallagher’s piano fleshing it out. Paul’s bass a million years from his debut-album playing. Mick Jones a guitar hero. And Topper. You can listen to the whole album just following the drums. Topper is Ingredient X. No Topper, no Clash. Guy Stevens, who produced Mott The Hoople (Mick Jones’ fave band), served behind the desk. The production is awesome. Listen to the follow up album, ‘Sandinista’, and you can hear how much of a difference he made.
And THAT cover. Plus, they sold it for a fiver: a double LP for the cost of a single album. They wanted people to hear it at an affordable price. The band pretty much lost money on every copy sold back then. Just think about that for a moment. If you haven’t heard it for a while, do. It’s probably even better than you remember.
Lol I ended up buying the entire Barbie Fashion Mix and Match doll set just so I could use the top for Clash…
With Burma just opening up their borders to tourists, there is a clash of tourism culture and Burmese culture. Here you can see a young monk praying with a pile of cash at his feet; given by tourists, people taking his pictures (like me!). I wonder what is the effect of this down the road.

Two adolescent male elephant seals duke it out in the gentle surf of the California coast. Although none of them are actually sparring for mates and weren't hurting each other too badly, some of them were still pretty torn up looking from constant nips and bites. © 2011-Current.

The Clash, ‘Know Your Rights’, 1982. The band were on their last legs. They’d cracked the US but the day-to-day grind of touring had taken its toll. Tired, burnt out, Topper on heroin. The thrill had gone. The band’s contract was for 10 albums. They’d done two single albums, a double album and a triple album. Effectively 7 albums’ worth of material, which the record company counted as only 4 releases. They ‘owed’ another 6 albums. The band didn’t know: “I owe my soul to the company store”. The 16 Tons Tour was named after that song’s lyric. Back in the day, in the deep South of the USA, black workers weren’t paid in money. The companies that employed them provided housing and ‘credit’ at the Company Store, deducting wages at source to cover costs. Workers never earned enough to save money. Indeed, as late as 1965, Martin Luther King met black workers who’d never actually held a dollar bill in their hands.
This was a single from fifth album, ‘Combat Rock’. The cover nails it; ‘The Future is Unwritten’. A raw rockabilly guitar thrash with Uncle Joe snarling, laying down the law. I prefer this to ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’ or ‘Rock the Casbah’ from the album – the ‘punk’ tunes you’re allowed to like. They don’t play ‘Know Your Rights’ at weddings…
In a dimly lit alley I felt the cold fingers of death knocking at my door the dame by my side screamed of danger yet I was willing to take a dip, as we opened fire I held her close and whispered in her ear .......
Darius : toots have you heard what Gallery Assis is doing
Eli : in a sassy voice she says "What isn't Gallery Assis doing that is the question"
Darius: well toots this time around they've really taken the cake....I hear on the wires they will be running a competition
Eli: What kind of competition.....and don't spare the details!
As the gun shots ring in the deserted alley I grab the smoking dame by my side and whisper with a smirk on my face
Darius: you will have to see toots.....I guarantee you will love it
To be continued........................

I title this picture: Clash of the Titans
Just an ordinary day in Fawcett City. Afternoon shopping, baseball games, and Black Adam ravaging the downtown area. Waiting to get the attention of his adversary, Captain Marvel. Billy Batson is just getting off school when he hears the news, Black Adam is back, and he seems pissed!
--------------------------------------
After a few minutes of waiting I see the Captain approach, late, as usual.
"What are you up to now Adam?"
I am here to teach you a lesson.
"What was the use in destroying part of my city?"
Merely to get your attention.
"That's not cool dude."
Well, are you ready to learn?
"Learn what!?"
That I am better than you in every way.
"Bull crap!! I've beaten you time and time again."
Not today you won't, nor anytime after today as well.
"Bring it."
I swing a hard right hook at his jaw, sending him flying into the air. Angering him. The Captain comes at me with full force, typical for the young man. Not worrying about defending, only about attacking. He swings at my chest, I dodge and elbow his shoulder. This type of thing seems to go on for ages. I look at his battered body and see the body of one who has been truly defeated. I begin to walk away, feeling like he has learned his lesson. After walking down the street I hear something behind me. I turn around and see him standing where I left him, now ready to attack. He begins to fly towards me. I think to myself, "What a fool," as I fly towards him. As we meet our fists collide. The connecting of our blows sends a shock wave throughout the city, shattering all glass within 20 blocks. I get up from the hit, a bit shaken, but not much harm was done. The Captain however, is not so lucky. His belittled body lays limp. Not moving. Lesson learned.
The new FGW green is very smart, but it clashes horribly with the old pink and blue interior scheme! 166204 at Redhill.
Flamboyant colours of some flowers in my garden. They do clash a bit don't they? The Penstemon was planted there because It was very poorly and didn't look like it was going to survive, I just wanted to give it another chance.
