Welcome to #LisaDurden’s #WomensHistoryMonthMoment: Josephine Garis Cochran, born March 8, 1839, was the inventor who received a patent on December 28, 1886, for the first commercially successful automatic dishwasher, which she constructed together with mechanic George Butters. Her dishwasher was the first to use water pressure instead of scrubbers to clean the dishes inside the machine. #JosephinGarisCochran was inducted into #TheNationalInventorsHallOfFame in 2006 for her invention of the dishwasher. #ClapForThat! She passed away August 3, 1913.

ElizabethBlackwell was also the first woman on the medical register of the #GeneralMedicalCouncil and was a pioneer in promoting the education of women in medicine in the #U.S. #ClapForThat! She passed away on May 31, 1910 in the UK.

Welcome to #LisaDurden’s #BlackHistoryMonthMoment: Katiti Kironde was born in August 1968, became the first woman of color to ever grace the cover of #GlamourMagazine. #KatitiKironde, who was 18-years-old at the time and an undergraduate at #HarvardUniversity, applied for Glamour’s “Top 10 Best Dressed College Girls” competition and won the highest honor. It was also the first time that any black women had been featured on the cover of a mainstream women’s fashion magazine in the United States. #ClapForThat!

She is also a joint degree candidate with #HarvardLawSchool and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. #ImeImeAUmana said she has no interest in joining a high-paying corporate firm. Welcome to #LisaDurden’s #WomensHistoryMonthMoment: Lydia Taft, born February 2, 1712, became the first recorded legal woman voter in Colonial America after her husband Josiah and eldest son Caleb died. The Uxbridge, Massachusetts townspeople, granted permission to allow #LydiaTaft to receive a proxy to vote, because of the landowner and taxpayer status of Josiah's estate. #ClapForThat! She passed away November 9, 1778.
