Misty Bus Driver...
A sudden fog rolled over the city in early December last year. this bus was barely visible I could hear it coming closer but couldn't see it till it was right in front of me then it faded back into the murky fog until only a faint glow from the tail lights were visible..

Jökulsárlón (lit. "Glacier Lagoon") is situated in south eastern Iceland, at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull, just East of Skaftafell National Park. It evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lagoon, which is 200 m deep (approx 600 ft), has grown since then because of melting of the Icelandic glaciers. The lagoon now stands 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2 (6.9 sq mi). Its size has increased fourfold since the 1970s. Teh Glacier lagoon is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland.
--- Did you know?: The rule is that only 1/10 of an iceberg is visible over the water surface. Thus, this chunk of ice is 10 times bigger than what you see! So its total size is somewhere in the range of 5 to 10 citybuses. It also tells us that The Glacier Lagoon is pretty deep; in other words it is approx. 200 meters (600 ft.) deep.
--- The Glacier lagoon can be seen along Route 1 between Hofn and Skaftafell. It presents a picturesque parade termed as “A ghostly procession of luminous blue ice-bergs through the 17 km2 (6.6 sq mi) (18 km2 (6.9 sq mi) as reported in other sources) Jokulsarlon Lagoon”. A boat ride of about 40 minutes in a broad bottomed boat, winding through the floating small icebergs of the lagoon, provides an enchanting experience.[2]
--- Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies; 'A View to a Kill', 'Die Another Day', 'Tomb Raider' and 'Batman Begins'), in addition to the reality-TV series Amazing Race.
A batch of ex London & Country Northern Counties bodied Volvo Citybuses still appear on Arriva's Medway services. All carry a yellow livery as illustrated by 7631 (G631 BPH) in Strood yesterday afternoon, 17th January, 2012.
First Glasgow Volvo Citybus AH64 at Easterhouse on Tuesday 2nd June 2009 on service 46. This is one of two Strathclyde Citybuses left in service.
With a backdrop of other Citybuses on the temporary parking ground whilst some of the depot was being rebuilt in 1983, 207 is poised for further action. I wonder if it would be possible to park a bus up in what amounts to a quiet car park with the doors open today? How long would it be before it would be taken for a joy ride?
Not all of Plymouths Ex Trent Volvo Citybuses were painted yellow about 6 of them also gained full Citybus livery -other allover adverts. Reason for this was although they were used on school bus duties they could also be used in normal service when required.
The 2016 summer season in West Cornwall and the far reaches of Penzance and Land's End was the final season you could enjoy the last of the Volvo Olympians and the open top Volvo Citybuses and sole open top Olympian before DDA regulations banned them from been used, unless for a small number of days a year, obviously making them unviable and requiring replacements for 2017.
This former Bristol example was one of many that came to Cornwall late on from First Somerset and Avon to cover the avoid of the demise of Western Greyhound. As you can see this Palatine 2 example has the trademark Cornish roof profile and mud stains on the lower side, probably owing to peak potato harvesting time along the route at this point of year! I seem to recall S677 AAE was covering for an open top the majority of the week on my visit.
2016 was notable the last reason of the 1 and 1A route numbers before they were replaced by the Atlantic Coaster 'A' prefixed numbers. The 1 operated back then to Penzance via Sennen, Sennen Cove and Crows-an-wra and down the tight lanes to St Buryan whilst the 1A went via Porthcurno. The Atlantic Coaster update now sees the A1 all goes via Porthcurno.
This Gibraltar Bus Company Dennis Dart/Caetano is on the 4 route, heading into town centre from the docks area around Rosia
One of the typical open tops dedicated on the Land's End Coaster are a batch of Volvo B7TL, Plaxton Presidents, new to First London but came to Cornwall from First Eastern Counties where they operated at Norwich.
These were converted for use for the 2017 season and branded as Atlantic Coasters, after replacing the older step entry bulk of Volvo Citybuses and the odd Volvo Olympian that operated the services on the loop on the 1/1A, 300 and 17B services, remember them!
Now on its fifth season in use, it has been rebranded as the Land's End Coaster, you can notice the side panels were the branding has been modified.
One of Country Lions Volvo Citybuses, PRP 3V, photographed passing through Kislingbury, Northamptonshire, after completing school duties at nearby Campion school. 19th July 2016.
This bus had recently been repainted, but had no logos applied at this point.
Hamiltons based near Kettering have replaced some Volvo citybuses with late model Volvo Olympians in the past few months, R157VPU is one of the latest. The white works well with the relief and fleetname in my opinion.
The layout of the slightly older Scanias in my opinion were way more passenger friendly over the later Citybuses that featured a much steeper entrance by contrast.
350 shows it's single step and hefty grabrails to assist passengers whilst laying over at Gleneagles Drive in Killisick ahead of completing the next 59 to Nottingham via Arnold, Daybrook and Sherwood.
Found departing Lands End on a morning A1 to Penzance is this Volvo B7TL, Plaxton President, devoid of passengers as they had departed to Lands End on the inbound trip (this turn picks up going through the villages later in the run for Penzance targeted passengers).
This example is one of a batch, freshly converted for the 2017 season due to DDA regulations forcing the older Volvo Citybuses and and sole Cummins powered Volvo Olympian to the history books (although the later does survive in this livery!). It arrived with many others from First Eastern Counties, Norwich but having started life new with First London.
You would ideally need to travel to Paris to see any volvo citybuses still with their original owner in 2019. A close second is H178GTT which was new to Plymouth citybus as a high spec semi coach in 1991. It still operates in its home city albeit with a different owner, still looking very smart.
Shtip, 4 October 2019.
One of at least two of these former Danish citybuses, but I wonder if anyone recognises the livery?
As the final season is in play for the current stock of open tops working out of Penzance, 2016 will be the final year of the five ex Badgerline Alexander bodied Volvo Citybuses and a lone ex Bristol, Cummins powered Volvo Olympian on a Palatine 2 body. These workhorses are plying their trade between the 1/1A Penzance to Lands End, 300 Lands End to St Ives and 17B St Ives to Penzance.
Seen working a 1 working from Penzance to Lands End is D701 GHY in some rain, a few brave souls on top still enjoy the view!

Another batch of Citybuses, and yet another frontal treatment.
A few shots from Llandudno's coach park in the days before it was turned into a fortress !
Like many municipals, Plymouth had no record of coach operation prior to the mid-1980s, but started with some secondhand Leopards and Volvo Citybuses with coach seating. The first new coach arrived in 1989, but a number of nearly-new Volvo B10Ms from Parks of Hamilton helped to grow the fleet in the early 1990s. E567 UHS (later JSK 263) was here from 1990 to 1995, then returned north to McCreadie's of Airdrie for the rest of its time.

Western SMT V999 - One of a pair of unique Volvo B10M Citybuses with Alexander RVC coachbodies new to Fife as B176 FFS. It would end up with Rhodda Buses where it would be rebodied with an East Lancs single deck bus body and reregistered A14 RBL.
The final pair of GM Buses' order for 10 Volvo Citybuses entered service with J-prefix registrations and with additional modifications to permit wheelchair access, for which the type wasn't really suited. But this was, after all, in the period before more practical accessible vehicles became widely available for normal service work. 7009 was pictured loading on Oldham's Cheapside in June 1993, whilst it and sister bus 7010 were allocated to the 408, which ran through the town.

Having just dodged a car for this fast moving action scene, the sun decided to also have a break behind some cloud cover but thankfully a record was captured of this onetime Bristol Cityline, Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine 2 with a fine Cummins L10 unit which has operated as an open topper for the Penzance, St Ives and Lands End area routes for a number of years in its later life. It should be noted it still retains its older 34137 fleetnumber from its closed top days, perhaps linked to been converted in house after having its roof damaged in Falmouth under a low bridge in March 2011, anyone know the details?
L637 SEU had regular dodged me over various visits in 2014 and 2015 through been VOR or at Camborne for routine maintainance but was only seen on odd occasions in use. 2016 thankfully allowed many happy rides in it even if the weather was fairly dull or naff most of the time, including a full run from Penzance to St Ives via Lands End! Sadly 2016 was its last season in service alongside the Citybuses, all due to DDA nonsense, what next a left to allow a wheelchair on the top deck front seat location?
First Manchester 31127 : One of a number of ex First Glasgow Volvo B10M-50 'Citybuses' that arrived here in 2002 and ran for 2-3 years before passing on to other First companies - in this case First West Yorkshire
B143GAU was part of a batch of relatively rare Marshall bodied Volvo Citybuses that were new to Derby.
June 2007.
The following year saw major investment in Derby and the Citybuses withdrawn from service.
Volvo Citybuses pictured inside Derby ARRIVA depot. Northern Counties bodied 4346 - C146 NRR rests while East Lancs bodied 4327 - H664 GPF parks up.
Kicking off Lime Line in 2001, the 56, 57 and 59 were all step entry vehicles, only the 58 was low floor. It would be almost another four years before the full Lime corridor was low floor.
The three services in 2001 were made up of the L reg Scanias and R reg Volvo Citybuses.
353 illustrates the former, pictured on Long Row in Nottingham with a 57 to Killisick via Sherwood, Daybrook and Arnold.
The final one of the four remaining operational Volvo Citybuses at Dews is this former Trent example which still retains its Diamond Jubilee livery from 2012
This bus had been in service in the first week of August 2020 but its contract was ended - it drove here without any problems and was still road legal but there are no new contracts for 12 year old diesel Citybuses in Denmark

B175/6FFS were a pair of Volvo Citybus B10M-50 /Alexander RVC Type CH42/28F purchased new by Fife Scottish as FRA75/6 in October 1984. They were transferred to Western in 1987 primarily for use on Scottish Citylink service 501, which linked Edinburgh to Ayr via Glasgow. In a very rare moment the pair were captured together in Glasgow.
First Manchester 30378 : One of a number of ex First Glasgow Volvo B10M-50 'Citybuses' that arrived here in 2002 - this one presumably suffered a major failure as it went for scrap in 2006 unlike most of its sisters which passed elsewhere for further service.
Another of the fine Alexander bodied Volvo Citybuses in Partick. It's operating long established service 64 (Mountblow - City - Carmyle) which has been reduced to a shadow of its former self. In fact, the 64 has been under threat of complete withdrawal for quite some time.
Today, both of Glasgow Citybuses ScotRail liveried Alexander Dennis Enviro 200MMCs were off the road. The Plaxton Pointer Dart in ScotRail was on the road alongside Glasgow Citybus Optare Solo 10704 - MX56YOV.
Short lived in the Derby fleet were five East Lancs bodied Leyland Olympians that were new in 1984.
Numbered 206 - 210, they joined an earlier pair with Northern Counties bodywork that arrived in 1982.
Withdrawn in the late eighties, four of the five were disposed of to the municipal Warrington fleet, whereas this one went to Lincoln City Transport.
The earlier pair were snapped up by Chester, leaving Derby with a fleet of Volvo Citybuses and B10M's and older Leyland Fleetlines.
Route 24 was not Grey-Green's first foray into tendering on London routes. But it was by far the most high profile: it brought non-red buses through Trafalgar Square and Whitehall, and past the Houses of Parliament. It was going to become a media icon for the whole tendering process. Grey-Green made sure that it started well. No tatty secondhand buses would do here. No hired buses flaunting the liveries of provincial fleets that had had their fleets downsized by deregulation. Grey-Green spent 2.5 million pounds on a new fleet of thirty Volvo Citybuses, in a striking new livery of grey, green (what else!) and orange. They arrived from 12th September 1988 onwards, and were tried out on routes 125 and 298. Guy Fawkes Day was the date for the takeover, and the buses were an immediate media success, working between Hampstead Heath and Pimlico. Operation was from the company's coaching base at Stamford Hill.
120 is seen here at Westminster.
First Manchester 30367 : One of a number of ex First Glasgow Volvo B10M-50 'Citybuses' that arrived here in 2002 and ran for 2-3 years before passing on to other First companies. Why or when it acquired the yellow livery I'm not sure?
One of Strathclyde's Buses' 95 strong batch of Alexander R Type bodied Volvo Citybuses (F and G reg), and arguably amongst the classiest buses delivered to Strathclyde, heads towards Kelvinbridge on Great Western Road. At the time that this picture was taken (Jan 1995) the tall tower in the background was atop Chimmy Chunga's Bar. Later Bar Oz and now Cooper's Bar (named after its original owner).
One by one, these Nottingham Volvo Citybuses are starting to leave the Redline fleet, as age and PSVAR catch up with them. At least a couple have stayed around to receive the latest version of fleet livery, including YIL 6987, new as R341 RRA, which has now spent longer at Redline than it did at Nottingham.
Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern AG (VBL): trolleybus number 270 (Series 251-280, type BT 5-25, built between 1988 and 1989 by NAW, Hess and Ramseier+Jenzer with electric equipments of Siemens) coupled to trailer 3xx (Series 301-311, type APM 5.6-13 built between 1998 and 2002 by Lanz + Marti and Hess). They are serving the line 1 to Maihof.

Kilmarnock depot was home to 6 of these ex Fife Citybuses for many years on School work. They were all replaced in due course with the last leaving in 2010. All are since believed to have been scrapped. 15283 is seen at rest enjoying the sunshine in Kilmarnock Depot.

The five Alexander Dennis Enviro400-bodied Scania N230UDs that Stagecoach in South Wales received from the Oxfordshire fleet in 2020 are transferring from Cwmbran to Porth depot for use on Service 132 (Maerdy-Ferndale-Porth-Pontypridd-Treforest-Taffs Wells-Cardiff), alongside the allocation of Gold-specification Alexander Dennis E20D MMCs.
These are the first deckers to operate for Porth depot since the mid 1990s, when Rhondda Buses, as the successor to National Welsh, had a small number of Leyland Olympians, Volvo Citybuses and Bristol VRs, also for Service 132. Stagecoach acquired Rhondda Buses in December 1997, by which time it was an all-single deck fleet.
Back to the present day, and 15965 is captured emerging from Catherine Street, Pontypridd, Maerdy bound.
