The US Citizenship Class of 2012

Our citizenship oath ceremony in the atrium/cafeteria of Fanshawe College in London, ON, on November 21, 2007. I found a brief report on the internet about the event.

Állampolgársági eskünk Kanadában, a londoni Fanshawe College éttermében 2007. november 21-én szerdán. A neten találtam az ünnepségről egy riportot, melyben kétségtelenül a mi gyerekeink is szerepelnek:

As part of Fanshawe’s 40th anniversary celebrations 60 new Canadian citizens took the Oath of Citizenship. The 60 candidates, who hailed from 30 countries worldwide including England, Poland, South Korea and Palestine, among others, gathered in the James A. Colvin Atrium (B-Cafeteria) or the two-hour celebration, which included the ceremony. Within the group of Canadians taking the oath were families with small children who, doubtlessly not understanding the fuss, were more enraptured with the audience and miniature Canadian flags they had been handed and were waving happily, interrupted only when it was they were called on-stage with their families to collect their citizenship papers. The crowd gathered to witness the event included the prospective citizens along with a large collection of supporters, many of whom were waving miniature Canadian flags as the oath took place in both French and English. On hand at the ceremony was a representative for the RCMP, the London Police Services, London-Fanshawe MPP Khalil Ramal as well as college representatives.

On the 24th October 2014 Globethics.net East Africa organised a workshop in Bujumbura, Burundi on the theme, ‘Responsible Citizenship as Foundation of Peace.' The venue of the one day event was Conference Hall L'HIBISCUS. This workshop was very well attended by about 65 participants majority of whom were youth affiliated to different political parties. There were also youth working in different Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and government ministry departments especially the ministry for youth, sports and culture. The event started at 8:30am with an opening speech delivered by the Permanent Secretary ministry of youth, sports and culture. The first presentation was made by Herbert Makinda the Programme Executive (PE) Globethics.net East Africa. The PE talked about the mission, vision and core values of Globethics.net. He went on to talk about how new participants can register and why it is important that many more new participants should register from Burundi. He concluded by encouraging all participants to actively participate in the sessions of the day.

The second presentation done by Prof. Siméon BARUMWETE was on Democracy, its Stakes, its Foundations and Requirements. The presenter traced the origins of democratic leadership and pointed out the developments of democratic processes in Burundi. He concluded by challenging the youth to actively participate in the process by realising that there is need to accommodate other people's opinions in a democracy. Zénon MANIRAKIZA also presented on the BASHINGANTAHE Values and Responsible Citizenship. The third presentation was on Positive Communication by Prof. Barbara NDIMURUKUNDO-KURURU and finally Jean Bosco NDAYISHIMIYE presented on Non-Violent Resolution of Conflicts based on his PhD dissertation.

During the interactive session the youth voiced their gratitude that Globethics.net had organised such an event and many of them expressed that they had never thought that there could ever be a forum where members of different political affiliation would sit together and deliberate on leadership and agree. They urged the organisers to plan another event so that they can ask their political party leaders to attend. The youth from different factions of the political parties ended up shaking hands and promising to work together to ensure peace prevails before, during and after elections.

Yup.. This is everyday life here in Arizona.

The interesting thing is that this is not a "border".. This is just a highway I happen to drive. At least it's not a toll booth.

Seems that the Border Patrol should do their business at the actual border though....

Kevin England, a well-known Vancouver citizen, was presented with the province’s newest honour, the Medal of Good Citizenship. England was honoured for his leadership and volunteerism for many non-profit and worthwhile initiatives in Vancouver and around British Columbia. Some of these include the B.C. Women's Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Campaign, Collingwood School, The Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education, Tibetan Nun Project, various recovery fellowships, and direct support to individuals and their families in recovery.

England’s support and fundraising efforts have especially helped people struggling with addiction. His support helped establish the therapeutic community model of treatment in British Columbia. Specifically, he is the co-founder and president of the British Columbia New Hope Recovery Society which in 2007 established Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Community, a 65-bed, residential recovery centre located 30 kilometres southwest of Prince George. Baldy Hughes offers a long-term, abstinence-based, community-as-treatment recovery program in a remote farm setting. The program provides men recovering from addiction a unique opportunity to regain their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, and remove barriers to their long-term health.

On Tuesday 31 January, Deputy Head of Mission James Roscoe conducted a British Citizenship ceremony. This ceremony saw 21 persons affirm their oath of allegiance to His Majesty King Charles III and pledge their loyalty to the UK surrounded by their family, friends and honoured guests. This was the first in-person ceremony to take place in the US since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
