This is a fun one! Up in our contemporary craft section we have an entire aisle of glass objects. The dimensions are tricky on this one as the width is 9", but if you select an object that is wider at the top or bottom - it might still fit. So don't hesitate, just put it out there and we'll let you know if it will work.

Help us find an object for this space by searching the on-line collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Consider the other artworks in the case and the size of the gap. Ask questions if you need help, museum staff will be monitoring this page!

Hint: try searching for keyword "glass" AND artwork type: Crafts.

This one should be fun! It is a paintings case in our Folk Art section.

We're treating this case a little differently! Over the next couple of months, visitors to the Luce Foundation Center will be able to vote for their favorite artwork to fill this gap, based on a pool of around 20-30 objects selected by staff.

The winning object will be posted here at the end of the summer! E-mail AmericanArtLuce@si.edu for more information, or if you would like the chance to vote from afar.

This one is definitely a challenge. The space is small and the theme is quite specific. But don't hesitate to throw ideas at us! The Luce Foundation Center is a storage facility, so we don't have to be too strict with the themes. Just don't forget that the dimensions on the web site do not include the dimensions of the frame.

Citizen Curator celebrates Leith’s fascinating and varied heritage, through the art collections of the City Art Centre and history collections of Edinburgh Museums.

The exhibition includes artworks by well known Leithers such as Eduardo Paolozzi, and depictions of the local area by artists including Alexander Nasmyth, Jock McFadyen and Kate Downie. It also includes new works created by up and coming artists and a specially commissioned film exploring the diversity of the area. Alongside these pieces there will be historical objects and contemporary items exploring Leith’s heritage, from Hibs memorabilia, to Mela programmes, boxing gloves, to ship building tools and the skin of a catfish caught in Leith Harbour!

This exhibition is the cumulation of a project developed to give local communities, in particular young people, the opportunity to explore and interpret their local heritage. Several community groups have chosen collections items to put on display and created their own works in response to these.
