@ Sydney Circular Quay
On the day I wanted to watch sunset from on top of Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Somehow (I mean, I got lost^^) I arrived directly under the bridge. Up above was where I wanted to be. Sun was nearly setting down. Too late. I watched a beautiful sunset over the city from "under" the bridge.
Back to the harbour, I saw remaining sun reflecting over the city buildings. Sun was setting behind me, and behind was Harbour Bridge which I missed.
Life is not too bad.

Sydney Harbour from Circular Quay
Unfortunately very cloudy day.
A lot of people in the city everywhere.
This Sydney's event finished two weeks ago.
I still have so many photos but I'll make this photo as the last one.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge on the left, the Sydney Opera House in the Centre and Circular Quay on the right of the image.
Fort Denison or "Pinchgut" is the small island can be seen in the centre of the image. "Pinchgut was a prison from early settlement and was also a military fort in the mid 1800's and named Fort Denison. The term "Pinchgut" was derived from prisoners who endured pains in their gut from the terrible food served to them. The island is also known as Mattewanye or Muddawahnyuh from the local Aboriginal language.
On the right of the image you can see an ocean liner docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay where international passengers can embark/disembark. Circular Quay is the main hub for the Sydney Harbour Ferries that service the harbour for local passenger transport. A day on the ferries is a great way to see Sydney's main harbour and Parramatta River.
Sydney Cove where Circular Quay is situated was the first areas settled by the First Fleet in 1788. The Aboriginal name for Circular Quay is Warrung, meaning "Little Child".
The iconic Sydney Opera can be seen in the centre of the image on Benelong Point. The Sydney Opera Hose was completed in 1973 and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on October 20th 1973. The Sydney Opera House was originally designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon but completed by an Australian architectural team headed by Peter Hall. On 28 June 2007, the Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Opera House was also a finalist in the New7Wonders of the World campaign list.
Kirribilli House, can just be be seen in amongst the trees on the pont directlly across the harbour on the left fom the Sydney Opera House. Kirribilli House is the secondary official residence of the Prime Minister of Australia. It is one of two official Prime Ministerial residences, the primary official residence being The Lodge in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
This photo is from 15 vertical shots using the 24-70 f2.8S lens at 35mm and stitched using PTGui. The original 15 shot image stitched together ended up as a 29648 x 7422 pixel image of about 220Mp!! This image is downsized to 7590 x 1900 pixels so as can be seen on a 3840 x 2160 UHD screen. Best to click on the image for full view.
Looking at the Opera House over the Opera Bar, a bar very much close to our hearts and was a frequent watering hole duing our 7 week visit in 2014
The Opera House is one of the most amazing buildings I have had the opportunity to visit. The acoustics inside are amazing. I would recommend if in Sydney do not miss the chance to visit.

Photographed last Saturday, 18th March, 2023, from aboard my ferry, 'The Supply', as it completed its journey from Milson's Point across the harbour to Circular Quay.
The 'MSC Magnifica' is currently registered in Panama. It is a French built, Italian designed cruise liner, that carries over 2,000 passengers. Famously 'christened' by Sophia Loren in 2010. See:
www.msccruises.com.au/our-cruises/ships/msc-magnifica
Whilst, of-course, the 'MSC Magnifica' is very grand, the best ship in this image is - returning for 2023 - the Rivercat. It looks just a little smaller than the Magnifica, but I am sure it goes a lot faster.

Sydney.
I have never seen this many people jammed into the harbourside. Not even for New Year's Eve. It was ridiculous.
And I actually thought that the projections of birds and flowers onto the harbour bridge pylons were more 'vivid' than the drones.
See above in the image.
But who am I?
The drones are here.

An essential part of attending the Vivid Sydney 2023 festival is to also visit one of the cafes in 'The Rocks'.

99 George Street, 'The Rocks'.
Sydney
See: www.therockscafe.com.au/#about
This is an historic address which dates back to the late 1700s. Here is the history:
The site at '99 George Street' has been in continuous usage since the late 1700s. It was part of the first Sydney hospital grounds, standing just south to the site, with the Assistant Surgeon’s residence occupied by Francis Greenway, the convict architect who had been transported for forging a building contract in 1814.
In 1861, for an unknown reason, the buildings at 95-99 George Street were vacated and the buildings demolished. The land remained vacant until circa 1867 when the present building was constructed.
They were occupied in 1868, with a butcher in No. 95 and a grocer in No. 99, and these buildings continued to be used for those businesses for the next 20 years. '99 George Street' was continually used as a grocers and run by a number of tenants until the 1970s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority undertook restoration and reconstruction works on the terrace of shops.
Since the late 1980’s, '99 George Street' has been occupied by 'The Rocks Café', where it now serves flat white coffee and Espresso Coffee Cake, lol.

This is the Opera House , on Sydney harbour, lit up for Vivid. An annual light festival, cancelled this year , due to Covid, can't wait for it to return.
Vivid Sydney, colourful light projections @ the Argyle Cut, the Rocks. A very popular annual event in Sydney.
Happy Sunday everyone!
It's not a pink hour or girlie harbour, just a very very cloudy morning.
When I left home, the sky was as blue as myself and a bit of nice clouds. Then 40 mins later, it was covered with all the thick clouds. Unbelievable😳
This is not sharp, I know. I took only a little camera with a little lens. No need a tripod here (hard to place it with those thick fences). I laid my camera on the railing but this bridge seriously wobbles with Sydney trains, city busses, humongous trucks, and serious runners. 🚈 🚍 🚔 🚜 🚲 🏃🏃🏃🏃
Needles to say, always heavy traffic on the water, too⛴ 🚢 ⛵🚤
And standing on here is not as romantic as I show in some of my photos, I mean the bridge. Someone with a safety jacket started drilling right next to me, OMG😱 (don't know what he was doing) and so windy and cold.....
There was a big cruise liner (in front of the blue building) docked at Circular Quay. Just dreaming of a world trip....

The ASN Co building is a heritage-listed building which was completed in 1885. It was built in the Pre-Federation (Victorian) Anglo Dutch style under the direction of William Wardell and his associate, Walter Liberty Vernon.
It was home to the Australasian Steam Navigation Company but today houses the amazing Ken Done Art Gallery.

Here is the actual hub of Sydney Harbour activity. A transport hub certainly, the trains and buses meet the ferries - the most effective way to get around the harbour. But it is also the site of a cruise ship terminal, the Museum of Modern Art, restaurants such as the famous Quay (expensive, but worth every penny). On the other side is the Sydney Opera House. I won't mention the other architectural atrocity of an apartment complex which former Prime Minister Paul Keating once disparagingly referred to as "The Toaster". Really so out of character against the stunning Opera House. But nevertheless Sydney is a beautiful city.
These old rediscovered file photos of mine are a tribute to the humble snapshot.

.... Well, Circular Quay west, not to put too close a point on it. There I was, minding my own business taking a few snap shots (as one does) when some security guard monstered me, said I was a commercial photographer taking photos without a permit.
Well, I had him fooled; me with my Box Brownie and tripod hanging out down by the water. So traumatized was I by that encounter, I've never dared show this criminal capture to anybody until now. I hope the statute of limitations has expired in the years since 2006, and you can keep my secret.
