We've been away for the weekend in this rather unusual holiday let - Burnham High Light House. I'd often wondered what it would be like living in a lighthouse and now I know : you need to be very organised and have strong leg muscles. Oh how I laughed on many occasions when wanting to take a photo :-

Get camera. OK, now where's the tripod? Ground floor.

*Descends 110 steps to ground floor, gets tripod and returns*

OK. Ah, I need the flashgun. Bugger.

*Descends 4 floors to get flashgun. Returns*

Right, lets try this shot. Hmm, maybe try the other lens. Now where is it? 2 levels up. Feck.

*Ascends 2 levels, gets lens. Returns*

Now where was I? etc. etc.

And there were similar episodes with making cups of tea, since there were 2 kitchens, one on the ground floor where we found teabags and the main one on the 6th floor. We did make some very lengthy trips fetching tea bags from the bottom kitchen up to the top kitchen, until we discovered there was a second supply of teabags at the top too...

Communication was interesting as well. There was an intercom system but it didn't work. So there were lots of conversations conducted at some distance up and down the stairwell. When I say conversations, it was more a case of a series of yells echoing their way to you as if from some distant dungeon.

This is the view from the bean bag room up to the top kitchen, and above that the lantern room. Oh, and Colin the seagull.

Finland's Buses Powered by Leftover Fry Oil – It's Real!

Imagine turning your unused French fry grease into fuel for public transport. In Finland, that's everyday reality.

Buses in Helsinki and other cities use renewable diesel made from recycled cooking oil gathered from nearby restaurants and food makers.

The key is Neste MY Renewable Diesel – a top-notch biofuel that burns clean and cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over regular diesel. Best parts?

It works in any diesel engine without tweaks, lowers pollution, and boosts the recycling loop.

This smart idea supports Finland's push for carbon neutrality by 2035.

It's motivating other places to convert food scraps into green bus power. From kitchen to road – sustainable travel is here!
