The O2 (formerly known as the Millennium Dome) is a large entertainment district on the Greenwich peninsula in South East London, England, including an indoor arena, a music club, a Cineworld cinema, an exhibition space, piazzas, bars, restaurants, and a guided tour to the top of the O2. It was built largely within the former Millennium Dome, a large dome-shaped canopy built to house an exhibition celebrating the turn of the third millennium; consequently The Dome remains a name in common usage for the venue. It is sometimes referred to as The O2 Arena, but that name properly refers to the indoor arena within The O2.(Wikipedia)

IMAX Cinema, Rear View

The IMAX cinema was the first IMAX cinema to be built in Scotland. The single auditorium seats 370 in front of a rectangular screen measuring 80 feet (24 m) by 60 feet (18 m) and has the capability to show 3D films as well as standard 2D films in IMAX format. It opened to the public in October 2000 Premiered The First Film Entitled "Dolphins", several months prior to the opening of the two other buildings. On 6 September 2013, Cineworld agreed a 10-year lease to operate the IMAX cinema and opened a Starbucks on site.

The buildings are wrapped in cutting-edge materials including titanium and aluminium, and form a single entity thanks to features such as a linking teflon fabric roof and a ‘discovery’ tunnel.

Exiting the cinema at Fountainpark earlier this week, not long after night had fallen - eastern sky dark, still glimmer of light in the west (although far less to the naked eye than to the long exposure camera lens!).

Improvised night shots on way home from cinema, resting camera on some railings to steady it enough for a night shot.

A few improvised night shots around the Fountainpark complex. I was on my way home from work, so wasn't carrying the tripod, instead I made do by sitting the camera on top of railings and anything else with a flat top to steady it for a few shots.

A side-note: I was approached later by a couple of security staff who were very polite but told me I couldn't take photos here (open space, festive lights strung around it, I mean they must expect folks to take the odd pic!).

I've taken pics around this spot for years, including back when the film festival used the Cineworld there for the opening night gala (I even snapped Sir Sean Connery on the red carpet outside), and never in all those years had any such problem, which I pointed out to the security folks. Their reply was there was a "new landlord" and they "didn't like that".

Seems foolish to me, you'd think you'd want more photos shared in the hope more people would see them and And given everyone has a camera in their phone I can't help but feel I was singled out for daring to use - gasp - an actual camera. Given I have been a customer at this place literally since it opened (I've had a subscription to the cinema since it opened, and used most of the bars and restaurants there), so I did comment to them that perhaps they should tell their landlord he doesn't want to aggravate long-time customers who keep those businesses they rent out to open.

Add to the list along with the new Saint James Quarter,a dn the people who run the festive fair, as a place where the management are unfriendly to photographers (which in an age where everyone takes and shares photos on social media seems foolish, not to mention like pushing water uphill). Sadly something that is too common (and seems so pointless)

This photograph was taken inside the Cineworld’s bar in East Didsbury while waiting to watch Quantum of Solace. Although it was daylight, this corner was mainly dark except for the lamp. To the image I made small tweaks in contrast, saturation and sharpness.

Today started off with a trip to Cineworld to watch The Commuter. I love Liam Neeson and this film didn't disappoint. When leaving it was already snowing (well, it was more sleet). I wanted to go shopping to buy some new jeans and some other bits and pieces for my holiday in Tuesday but couldn't find anything I liked and ended up coming home with an Easter Egg. Priorities, right?

Cineworld in Brighton Marina showed its final films last night before closing down for the ‘foreseeable’ future. If only a crystal ball could show us what is ‘foreseeable’. Sadly over half the restaurants in the marina did not reopen after lockdown. Those that have reopened will struggle without the footfall from Cineworld.

A view from Five Ways looking towards central Birmingham. The underpass and island were constructed between 1969 & 1971, at the time of this picture the underpass was partially open.

To the left with the boarded up property on the corner is Ryland Street, almost opposite by the Birmingham standard bus is Bishopsgate Street, the buildings from that street, The Star of Asia, Salamis Restaurant and Ritters textiles are where Cineworld is today, the huge office block is also no more. Heading the traffic jam is a Daimler Fleetline working the 1 route, it will terminate near the Council House, today the route is cut back to Five Ways. Soon all will change again when the Midland Metro is extended to Five Ways.

This was taken as a test film using a 6x6cm Microcord camera, it had a fungal growth in the lens so I returned it and got my £15 back!

I really enjoyed A Simple Favour. I have a 'unlimited' subscription to Cineworld and gotta try pack in as many movies as I can before leaving for USA. So much admin and household stuff to sort out right now and things don't always go to plan. West India Quay, London E14. A new addition to my London Nights series.

Aberdeen Beach and Queens Links is located in Aberdeen, Scotland. The beach itself is famous for its golden sand and its long curved length between the harbour and the River Don's mouth.

The beach suffers from significant erosion of the sand so there are distinctive groyne or walls, to help keep the sand in place. The beach is popular with walkers, surfers and windsurfers.

Recently in an expensive million pound operation, sand was taken by ship from further down the coast to the south of Aberdeen and sprayed on the beach to replace some of the lost sand. Rocks were then placed in a v-shape formation to try to prevent erosion, much like the groyne.

The beach has a popular amusement area along the famous Beach Esplanade where there are restaurants and the city's amusement park Codonas.

There is also a 9 screen Cineworld multiplex cinema located next to the restaurants and Codonas.

The actual park area is called Queens Links and takes the form of a large grassy area parallel to the beach. It is popular with many people and often kite-boarders can be seen taking advantage of the strong sea winds. There is a public golf course, the Kings Links.

There is a city council recreation site, the Beach Leisure Centre with a swimming pool, ice rink and indoor sports hall.

Ryder’s Row (where Capel Street and Parnell Street meet) is close to the Cineworld Cinema complex. It is surrounded by English Language schools attended mainly by students from Brazil [slight exaggeration] who add a lot of colour and excitement to the area. This influx of students may also explain the wonderful selection of restaurants in the area.
