In honor of #cincodemayo, which commemorates the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla and in the U.S. celebrates Mexican-American culture, we are highlighting “La Guadalupana Mexicana Deli Grocery” in Brooklyn. We absolutely love its #handpainted signage, which was done in the colors of the Mexican flag 🇲🇽.

She held the camera tight, balancing its weight against the wind, snaping frame after frame of visions, thinking if only she could write one cumulative sentence, images in trees, words stuck in throats like roasted squirrel bones, the cello played, the car drove on. Who would have thought we could have such a romantic anniversary this far from Mexico?
Actually the featured calendar art for 3 May, but I held back posting this until Mexico’s National Day to celebrate the art of Diego Rivera (1886-1957). This 1942 painting is titled The Flower Seller.
After all, it is an American holiday.
