A blue abstract for the Smile On Saturday: "Blue For You - ME 2023" theme
The blue in today's theme is to raise awareness and show support for those who suffer from ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) or Fibromyalgia.
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a complication of pulmonary embolism and a major cause of chronic PH leading to right heart failure and death. Lung ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy is the screening test of choice; a normal scan rules out CTEPH. In the case of an abnormal perfusion scan, a high-quality pulmonary angiogram is necessary to confirm and define the pulmonary vascular involvement and prior to making a treatment decision. PH is confirmed with right heart catheterisation, which is also necessary for treatment determination. In addition to chronic anticoagulation therapy, each patient with CTEPH should receive treatment assessment starting with evaluation for pulmonary endarterectomy, which is the guideline recommended treatment. For technically inoperable cases, PH-targeted medical therapy is recommended (currently riociguat based on the CHEST studies), and balloon pulmonary angioplasty should be considered at a centre experienced with this challenging but potentially effective and complementary intervention.

Smile on Saturday: "Blue for You - ME - 2024" - For Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) International Awareness Day. 💙
There are many people in this world who suffer in different ways; whether that be physical pain or mental illness. We never know what some people are going through because some illnesses are not always visible to others. So please be kind to everyone you meet.
“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference.” - Helen James
Thank you for your visit! I hope everyone is doing well.
Welcome me back! Storm Eowyn managed to take out our Wi-Fi router last Saturday and it has taken until this morning, when the new router arrived, to get connected again. It is quite frightening that we are so dependent on such technology. So in the interim I have been getting on with the filing as both my husband and I are also recovering from the usual winter virus. He's having a bit of a boomerang return so was off to the doctor yesterday (he has chronic lung disease so is vulnerable)
With its uphill climb complete, UP MSBPC 28 rounds the curve at Feely just south of Deer Lodge Pass on UP's wildly scenic and chronically undershot Montana Subdivision.
The Montana Sub is, to my knowledge, the only rail line that crosses the Continental Divide twice. The northern of the two passes is Deer Lodge Pass, just out of frame to the right at a modest 5,801 feet. From here, they'll be on the Atlantic/Gulf side of the divide for about 100 miles. They cross back to the Pacific side at Monida, which is a much higher 6,817 feet and also marks the Montana-Idaho state line.
Here are the final 3 pieces. I figured I should just post them so I can start sharing them with folks. Take a gander at the whole set.

May 12 is ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia International Awareness Day, a day to bring attention to how ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia affects those suffering from the illness.
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. Often, people with ME/CFS may not be able to do their usual activities. People with ME/CFS have severe fatigue and sleep problems. ME/CFS may get worse after people with the illness try to do as much as they want or need to do. This symptom is known as post-exertional malaise (PEM). Other symptoms can include problems with thinking and concentrating, pain, and dizziness.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a medical condition characterised by chronic widespread pain and a heightened pain response to pressure. Other symptoms include tiredness to a degree that normal activities are affected, sleep problems and troubles with memory. Some people also report restless legs syndrome, bowel or bladder problems, numbness and tingling and sensitivity to noise, lights or temperature. Fibromyalgia is frequently associated with depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder. Other types of chronic pain are also frequently present.
Thanks for viewing 💙💜💙
You, you love it how I move you
You love it how I touch you
My one, when all is said and done
You'll believe God is a woman
Of course I didn't jump. I didn't even try.
Firstly, I'm not a cat and secondly, I don't suffer from chronic overestimation of myself. In addition, my life and my physical integrity are very important to me (even if it sometimes seems otherwise). However, none of that stopped me from at least climbing up there to take a photo. To be exact, I climbed up there four times until I found a composition that I liked. But who's counting?
The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, including the Uttewalder Grund, where I am at the moment, is really a fantastic playground for the child in me. Probably one of the reasons, besides the photographic aspect, that triggers my fascination for this region.
By the way, when I come back from trips like this I always look like a child who has spent the whole day on the playground, in bad weather and without an adult around.
The more I look at the photo the more I come to the conclusion that I need a flashier jacket. Somehow I almost blend into the background. What do you all mean ?
Was meint Ihr ?

Living with chronic health issues is hard and that hit home Thursday evening. I went to go out to chase the aurora, but as I was driving, I became too sick and too weak to keep going. Looking back it was the Lord’s grace to get me back home as I would not have made it and the aurora came much much later than expected. However, there was a second chance of the aurora the following night. I decided to take a chance and this time my wife was able to join me. The conditions were far less favorable as it looked like we would be completely clouded over, so we prayed. We prayed that the clouds would clear and the aurora would hold up long enough. It was supposed to peak between 3-6pm, but instead it peaked between 7-8pm when we were there. The clouds cleared almost entirely and I shot this image just minutes before the moon rose and the aurora faded. The Lord literally made all of this possible! It truly was a redemptive night and one I am very thankful to have had!

A portrait of some of the members of Southport Chronic Cavers Grotto of the NSS and other cavers during a 2009 grotto cave trip.
This was taken using an off camera flash, a remote and two slaves (the slave to the left of this shot did not fire). I do need to improve my lighting system.

this is my 1000.th picture on FLICKR. Thanks to all my followers, supporters, friends who encouraged me to go on and on...thanks to all your nice comments and kind words. i'm looking forward to many more wildlife encounters in the future!
Due to chronic poor health I'm unable to take on new contacts but do my best to reply to comments. Thank you so much for your interest, comments and favours on my photostream. Also for your good wishes. I send you joy and peace.
The impact of loss can vary depending on the age of the person experiencing it.
A Columbia University study found that losing a loved one can accelerate biological ageing, which is the gradual decline in how well organs, tissues, and cells function. This can lead to an earlier onset of chronic diseases and mortality.
The death of a loved one triggers the body to produce cortisol, which can lower immune function. Older adults already have declining immune systems as part of ageing, so they are especially vulnerable to illness during grief.
Older adults may experience social isolation and loneliness after the death of a loved one. Loneliness can increase the risk of health conditions like depression, stroke, heart disease, and suicide.

A couple of weeks ago I was given the chance to photograph this adorable little border collie puppy Hope. Hope was too young too go out in public due to vaccinations, so the shoot took place in my garden. Some of the shots like this one were taken with studio lighting.
After having success photographing cats against hessian, silk and other textiles I invested in a canvas backdrop from Bespoke Backdrops UK - Hand Painted Photography Backdrops in a lovely powder blue, and sat cutesome pup Hope in a wicker cat basket. Sher spent a fair bit of time knocking it over and otherwise destroying the set but I'm super happy with this shot of her...more to follow in the next week or two as we see Hope jumping, cuddling and rolling around!
Thanks to owners Selina and Lance Clark. I don't advertise photographic services as I have M.E. (chronic fatigue syndrome) which greatly limits my energy and time. However, I'm always happy to consider commissions via message or email :)
No, this isn't our trash. This is a trash dump on one of SCCG's favorite landowner's property. This was a Southport Chronic Cavers Grotto Sinkhole Clean Up Project.
