Chrome yellow is a yellow pigment in paints using monoclinic lead(II) chromate (PbCrO4). It occurs naturally as the mineral crocoite but the mineral ore itself was never used as a pigment for paint. After the French chemist Louis Vauquelin discovered the new element chromium in 1797 lead chromate was synthesized in the laboratory and used as a pigment beginning in the second decade of the nineteenth century.

From the archive this was a sunrise in the Peak District last summer.

Almost time for Retrofest 2023 in Chatham, Ontario. Hundreds of these beauties to admire and enjoy.

A fine start to the day with the first rays of sun catching Chrome Hill.

I wasn't going to post this version, but after reading my dear friend William's comment at my previous upload, I decided it would be interesting to see what my friends thoughts will be for this one, too ;))

My Lincoln,

We've had this date forever, you and I. Some days, it feels like it was an eternity ago that you've left me for dead. Some days, though...some days, Lincoln, it feels like it was just yesterday.

It seems to me that you might have forgotten, in the interim. That you've gone on your merry way, living what I now believe is a sham of a life. The Good Doctor seems to be held together with staples and duct tape, and you seem ripe and ready to inhale the next party favor someone offers you in pursuit of the odd stolen moment of oblivion.

If I let that go on, Lincoln, you might just book your own one-way ticket to the Great Beyond. I'm afraid I couldn't tolerate it. You see, ever since that day, I've lived in hope of being the one to send you off on your final journey in a grand fashion worthy of our combined memories. And I had hoped it would be a sudden affair - there's no better ending than a light snuffed at its brightest. But then, that was never your strong suite. Smoke and mirrors and the illusion of light...

That puts us on even footing though, doesn't it?

But I digress.

I'm here. And ready or not, it is time. I hope you have your affairs in order.

Yours truly,

Dorian

Mid-April Sunday morning walk

No it's not the Andes or Alps...or even Everest. This is Chrome Hill which is the 7509th highest peak in the British Isles and the 895th tallest in England. Elevation. 443.0 m (1453 ft). Prominence is only. 61.0 m (200 ft). Prominence is a measure of the height of a mountain or hill's summit relative to the lowest contour line encircling it. So it is actually quite a small hill, but is distinctive within the area.

Yesterday (the day before the last post) I got a little light that was completely unexpected. After a short walk back down and up and down Parkhouse Hill the snow started to fall quite heavily for the drive back.

I heard that the bunny was delivering chrome eggs this year, why spend all the time coloring eggs when chrome eggs will reflect all the colors around them. There goes the bunny!

A classical view of the Peak District - Parkhouse Hill from Chrome Hill.

Photographed in the UK Peak District in February a couple of years ago, Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill looked good in the morning light with a covering of fresh snow

This is a reflection on the dented chrome surface of a fish tank truck trailer that suggests a pareidolia portrait.

The portrait exemplifies the 'sneer of cold command' on the visage of Ozymandias.

Taken alittle time after the previous image and the low warm light turned to blue. The scene kept some atmosphere with the low cloud.

Thanks for looking.

Chrome Hill is in the Peak District. The view here gives a good perspective of the landscape around the area.

From low on the ridge. I came up via the ridge, but an easier and safer route to this point in the wet is accessible from the valley on the right
