The design is inspired by the humble fish finger. This teatime treat was tested in Southampton in the 1950’s by Clarence Birdseye. They proved so popular that on the 26th of September 1955 the Fish Finger was officially launched by Birdseye. Hannah Jayne Lewin's design shows a delicious fish and chip cone wrapped in newspaper and topped with ketchup. Look carefully at the newspaper for some fun ocean puns!
Over the summer of 2024, Southampton Hospitals Charity will be lighting up the South with a large-scale public art event that promises to captivate your senses and ignite your imagination.
There will be 40 8ft magnificent lighthouse sculptures on display through the streets and public spaces of Southampton and Cowes, each one a unique masterpiece designed by artists both local and well renowned, plus 40 mini lighthouses designed by local education groups, creating a family-friendly trail of discovery for visitors and residents to enjoy and explore.
The lighthouses will then be displayed together for a Farewell event in September 2024 which will be a chance to see all lighthouses gathered in one place, a truly unique sight. The sculptures will then go into auction to raise vital funds for Southampton Children’s Hospital.
This shot shows another one of our Chip Camp volunteers. Alison Jensen also came from California to help out with Chip Camp this year. She is a specialist at programming the microcontrollers we used for several of our learning activities and here she is helping one of the students get their program working correctly.

Fish and chips is a hot meal of English origin.It consists of battered fish, commonly Atlantic cod or haddock, and deep-fried chips. A common side dish is mushy peas.

Multiple integrated circuits at the heart of Europe’s space missions, etched together onto a single piece of silicon.
This 20 cm-diameter wafer contains 35 replicas of five different space chips, each incorporating up to about 10 million transistors or basic circuit switches.
Laid down within a microchip, these designs endow a space mission with the ability to perform various specialised tasks such as data handling, communications processing or attitude control.
To save money on the high cost of fabrication, various chips designed by different companies and destined for multiple ESA projects are crammed onto the same silicon wafers, etched into place at specialised semiconductor manufacturing plants.
Once tested for functionality, the chips on the wafer are chopped up and packaged for use, then mounted on printed circuit boards for connection with other microelectronic components aboard a satellite.
Since 2002, ESA’s Microelectronics section has maintained a catalogue of ‘building blocks’ for chip designs, known as Intellectual Property cores, available to European industry through ESA licence.

A chipping sparrow (Spizella passerina) has been visiting our feeder recently. Perhaps his not-so "chipper" expression is due the wet weather he has to deal with.

Я тут сделала схемку самых распространенных (которые у меня есть, бгг) чипов, копирующих классическую форму 20 линий.
С помощью этой схемки вы будете более менее точно знать, что за чип у вас в руках, если это, конечно, понадобится.
Схемка сделана на глазок и наспех, но я не хочу заморачиваться.
Розовые линии показывают высоту подъема двадцати линий, чем больше их подъем, тем, по сути, можно добиться эффекта большей глубины цвета за счет меньшей площади отражения света.
BL-EBL - это чипы с самым длинным черенком, кстати, их конец черенка идеально плоский, даже слега с выемкой, если посмотреть на чип сбоку прямо, как на рисунке, то подъем линий почти не выглядывает из желоба, виднеются только самые кончики линий, уходящие в черенок. Эти чипы самостоятельно не способны передать глубину цвета, но в сочетании с черным ободком глаз БЛ и ЕБЛ выглядят очень интересно, линии фактически служат цветными полосками между чернотой покрашенных глаз и отражают свет постоянно, вне зависимости от угла освещения. Предположительно, выемки полосок матовые. Самое близкое, что я видела из похожего - отражатели фар.
Обычные чипы SBL-RBL-FBL - это уже, предположительно, копия чипов Кеннер. Черенок уже не такой длинный, с закруглением на конце, подъем линий очень высокий, у чипов хорошая глубина цвета и линии отражают свет только в определенном месте, при обычном освещении сверху отражение света попадает на нижнюю часть чипа, в то время как блик - на верхнюю, довольно красиво.
Brainworm - по сути, нечто среднее между чипами BL-EBL и обычными Такара, но ближе к обычным. Я очень люблю эти чипы, но их палитра очень скудная, постоянно скатывающаяся в серые дымчатые оттенки, мне не жаль, что там редки пронзительные цвета, но там нет и глубоких.
CoolCat II - Их черенок обычной длины, не такой длинный, как у BL-EBL, с плоским концом. Подъем линий небольшой и чипы постоянно сверкают под любым углом довольно большой площадью. Оттого, что у этих чипов линии лежат очень близко к поверхности, а толщина кромки чипа стандартная, то свет отражает еще и широкая кромка, создавая совершенно лишние, на мой взгляд, блики. Цвета у этих чипов развеселенькие и местами даже ядовитые. Однако есть просто отличные оттенки (например, коричневого, красного). Очень обидно, что при такой форме чипов и их ужасном блеске я не смогу их оценить.
