The Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) was constructed in wood by Johann Baptist Lechner in 1789-90 according to plans by Joseph Frey. It is 25 meters high. Model was the Pagoda in London's Kew Royal Botanic Gardens. Building in an oriental style was very popular in the 18th century, particularly the construction of pagodas and pavillions. Most palaces at the time also had at least one room inspired by Chinese or Japanese design.
The tower burned down several times, last in 1944. It was rebuilt exactly each time, last in 1952. Surrounding the tower is Munich's second-largest Biergarten which seats 7,000.

Our bike tour had a stop in the English Garden's Chinese Tower beer garden. I got potatoes with sausage and a radler (half beer half "lemonade" which really means Sprite) and Mike got a liter of Hofbräu as well as two sausages. He was a happy camper.

O esporte nacional da Bavária é beber cerveja. E eles fazem isso em dois tipos de lugares: Indoor e outdoor. Os lugares indoor são chamados de Bierhaus. O templo maior das Bierhauses é o Hofbrauhaus, onde quase 2500 pessoas podem se juntar para apreciar uma das mais tradicionais cervejas do mundo, produzida e vendida lá há mais de 500 anos.
Os locais abertos para a pratica do esporte de beber canecas gigantescas de cerveja são chamados de biergarten, sendo o mais conhecio o Chinesischer Turm, bem no meio do Englischer Garten, um dos maiores parques de munique. Em volta de um torre reproduzindo um pagode chinês, mais de 4000 pessoas se dividem em mesas coletivas para apreciar o líquido sagrado e comer enormes pretzels.
Daí, vem a pergunta: De onde vem tanta cerveja? Terá Munique um sistema canos de abastecimento de cerveja que atende todos estes lugares, numa versão etílica das fontes de Águas de Lindóia?
Bei den beiden Mädels am Nachbartisch ist mir die Canon AE-1 aufgefallen. Das Gerät ist mit dem Baujahr ab 1976 ist weit über 40 Jahre alt und macht noch mit Kleinbildfilmen tolle Bilder. Ich hatte damals auch eine Canon AE-1 Program in Gebrauch. Die habe ich auch heute noch, mache aber mit ihr keine Fotos mehr.

In the planning stages of my trip, I hadn't planned to visit the Chinesischer Turm as a Christmas market. It just so happened that on a trip through the Englischer Garten, during the day, I saw the closed-down stalls of the last night's Christmas market. I'm glad I came back: the market felt intimate, warm and inviting and the oompah band in the Chinesischer Turm itself was a welcome addition.

Ein ca. 25 Meter hoher Holzbau im Stil einer Pagode wurde 1789/1790 nach einem Entwurf von Joseph Frey von Johann Baptist Lechner errichtet.
Vorbild für den Chinesischen Turm war die doppelt so hohe „Große Pagode“ im königlichen Schlossgarten Kew Gardens in London, die sich wiederum an einer Majolikapagode in den Gärten eines chinesischen Kaisers (Xiangshan-Park, Peking) orientierte.

The Munich tower has five storeys: the ground storey roof has a diameter of 19 m, the topmost storey of 6 m.
