Paddle wheel steamer "Ludwig Fessler" under way on the Chiemsee.

Actually not a true "steamer" anymore, in 1973 it was converted to diesel power. The ship begun its service life in 1927.

The steam locomotive of the Chiemsee Railway. This is a 1.91 km long narrow-gauge railroad. The meter gauge line connects the station of Prien am Chiemsee with the district Prien-Stock, the landing stage of the Chiemsee-Schifffahrt.

When the fairy-tale king Ludwig II died in 1886, his successor Prince Regent Luitpold had the construction work on Herrenchiemsee Castle stopped and opened the building to the public. As a result, Prien experienced a veritable rush of visitors. The Royal Bavarian State Railways brought tourists to the train station in Prien, and from there they took carriages to the steamboat landing stages. Even back then, this caused traffic chaos in the village. This was remedied with the construction of the Chiemsee Railway. Construction work began in 1887, and the ceremonial opening of the railroad took place on July 9, 1887.

In the movies "Ludwig Thomas Lausbubengeschichten" from the 60's, the railroad often served as a backdrop.

evening/sunset mood at Chiemsee (Bavaria/Germany)

Sailing boats and other boats in front of the Fraueninsel in the Chiemsee.

This is the second largest of the three islands in the Chiemsee lake and along with its sister island Herreninsel one of the main attractions at this lake.

Most important on this island is the monastery, founded in in 782 by Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. Its heyday was from the 11th to 15th centuries.

The main church building is from the 11th century, from 1468 bto 1476 a rib vault was built in, from 1688 to 1702 the baroque altars were built.
