The church village of Sachrang with a traditional Bavarian appearance is located at the southern end of the Priental against the backdrop of the Kaiser Mountains not far from the Austrian border. Surrounded by the Chiemgau Alps, it lies at the foot of the Geigelstein and Spitzstein mountains. In the center of the village is the baroque church of St. Michael. As part of the international Alpine Club initiative, Sachrang has been one of the mountaineering villages since 2017, and also bears this title on the village sign.
„I gangat gern auf d’Kampenwand, wann i mit meiner Wamp’n kannt’.“
The Kampenwand is a 1669 m above sea level mountain peak in the Chiemgau Alps. Its summit cross is the largest in the Bavarian Alps and is visible from afar. The name is derived from its appearance: The jagged summit ridge is reminiscent of the crest on the head of a rooster.
A famous Bavarian shaking rhyme also contributes to the high degree of fame of the Kampenwand:
"I gangat gern auf d'Kampenwand, wann i mit meiner Wamp'n kannt'."
Translated for the North German flickr friends:
"I'd like to go on the Kampenwand, if I could with my fat belly."

Bleibt's gesund !

Behind to the left in the distance the glacier giants of the Zillertal Alps.
The abandoned Klausenhütte is a few meters across the Austrian border. So I entered a corona risk area, was I even allowed to do so? Do I have to be in quarantine to be on the safe side? Who knows ? 😉 But I'm fine. Stay healthy!

The Chiemgau Alps (German: Chiemgauer Alpen) are a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps and therefore belong to the Eastern Alps. Their major part is situated in Bavaria, Germany and only a small section crosses the Austrian border into the states of Salzburg and Tirol. They reach their highest elevation (1961 m) in the Sonntagshorn, a peak straddling the German-Austrian border.

I've been there 2 times this morning. Originally I wanted to get some nice pics at the very early dawn. The sky above the Bavarian Alps was completely clear in the night, when I started. Unfortunately there was 1 single, but big cloud here at Lake Weitsee. So I started a second time to get here, that day. The could has gone, no wind, and the lake layed down in bright, beautiful morning light.

YOU made it all possible. THANKS a lot, my dear Flickr-Friends
Some of you may know this subject already. Here I have another version. It was a big challenge for my computer to create this. I stacked and stitched 36 pictures to this HDR-Panorama. (the .tif-file has 640 MB). Furtunately I have 12 GB RAM :-)
Guess this wouldn't work with my D800E and 40-MB-raws :-(

.
Hard to believe: in March, right at this place, there was the Biathlon World Championship. Some people asked me, if the Siberian Iris grows there completely wild. Yes, they do. And you can find a lot of Lilies in this season. Hope they'll do so in future, too.

Belongs to the pink family (Caryophyllaceae).
Can be found in mountainous and subalpine areas. Loves rock crevices.
The seeds are distributed by ants. As a reward they get huge fat, sugar and protein containing cells that they can munch off the seeds.

5.30 a.m. at Lake Weitsee. One more time.
Waiting for the sunrise, but it was a foggy again that morning. So this was the only nice shot at this time that morning.
I'll keep getting up early till I get a bright, beautiful sunrise from this place. Sometimes it's not easy to get a perfect shot. :-)

The end of the valley. In front of us is the saddle between the peaks Geigelstein and Breitenstein.
Between the trees is the hut called Priener Hütte.
The forestry road we followed is maintained in winter and serves as a natural toboggan course.

Have a nice weekend all together
From Kampenwand summit you can see nearly the complete Chiemgau area. The orange light in the background is the town Rosenheim, the small in the valley below is Aschau, my hometown.
I have illuminated the rocks to the left with my new LED LENSER X21 (1000 Lumen) for 2 seconds, exposure 30 seconds.

ONCE AGAIN, the 5th time in the last 3 months. I get up at 3.30 a.m., a clear starry sky, drive 35 min to Reit im Winkl and Lake Weitsee by car. But, as I'm approaching the lake, there is this one cloud that seems to be fixed at the location for months now. Damn. I take the last 3 kilometers by bike in darkness and reach the lake shore at 4.20. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Sunrise should be a 5.03, but nothing happens. A rutting elk is belling very close to me, can here him walking through the covert.
Finally at 6 am I can perceive a pale sun and some bluish spots in the sky, and from that moment everything happens very fast: the fog, flooded by golden sunlight, disappears quite fast, seems to be eaten by the sun. Unbelievable ! I take about 100 pics and a bright early summer day begins.
