This beautiful chandelier is suspended from the middle of the sanctuary of Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago. The church in Ukrainian Village was designed by Louis Sullivan and built in 1903. We climbed the creaky stairs to the balcony and my husband switched to center weighted metering to get this dramatic shot.

i was glad i went on this day for a photowalk and captured the tulips before they all withered away...they are a great way to soften up an image of towering stuctures of steel and glass...hope it works...pls. View On Black

this is the Buckingham Fountain at the tail end of that fantastical blue hour....i was surprised that there were not a lot of people by the fountain tonight which was a good thing at the same time as you could get more unobstructed shots of the fountain....stayed only for an hour as a storm front was fast approaching the city and the wind was starting to pick up a bit....just got back in time to get in my car parked by the Planetarium when the rain started to pour....this frame was exposed for 10 seconds at f/16 and iso200....pls. once again, the marina at Burnham Harbor is starting to fill up with boats of all shapes and sizes...the circular polarizer really helped bring out the sky and enhance the water surface a bit more...cropped the bottom part a bit to give it a wide screen effect....pls. View On Black

the Adler Planetarium at night made whole by the other half of it's reflection...this shot was inspired by a photograph of a fellow flickr photog Dan Abueg (Undun is his tag) in this very same spot but his shot was of the skyline reflected on this same glass wall...just added about 20% color saturation on this frame and some minor in camera straightening....i plan redo this shot with my UWA lens next time to make sure i get all the letters in the frame to spell out PLANETARIUM....have a great weekend folks...pls. a very cold, freezing, bone chilling Chicago sunrise shot last January by the Adler Planetarium....i just loved the 90 degree weather we had yesterday and hopefully get more of those kinds of weather in the next few days...this is a multiexposure handheld HDR image autobracketed at +2, 0 and -2....pls. if you wait long enough, you might get a shot of this fountain at Millenium Park in Chicago without the throngs of kids playing in the water, which i think could be a great shot in itself too....this family of 4 were i think just taking a breather from all the sightseeing and parked it by the bench to relax a little bit....pls. i captured this full moon scene about 2 hours ago by the Adler Planetarium...i've noticed that they turn off the street lights along the whole stretch of Solidarity Drive everytime there is a full moon...i guess it makes for a better viewing atmosphere when the surroundings are dark and the moon shines it's light down on you....i tried to expose this as dark as possible to get a better definition of the full moon and set at ultra wide zoom to get it's reflection on the puddle....the light streak is of a Chicago Transit Bus passing thru....it looks like laser lights coming out of the Planetarium though....best to View On Black

took a bit of waiting around for the right moment when the kids and tourists got out of the way for a better clearer shot of the fountain with a decent reflection especially at 3 in the afternoon....the kids came in batches today though and this was one of those lull moments where you had to be quick and take your shot while the coast was clear...hope you guys like this one....pls. spent a brief part of my morning at the Montrose Harbor in Chicago before heading over to the city to pick up my wife from her workplace....just got a new Neutral Density 4X filter and totally love it, my 2nd day to use this filter and i really like the depth and tone it adds to the pictures....still have to play with it a bit more to get more proper exposure settings, also helped in controlling really bright light situations...it was kind of bright this morning although the skies were a bit cloudy....there were a bunch of people to the left of this frame who were out fishing and enjoying the mild weather...pls. Sunday's Chicago Air & Water Show was on my calendar of things to do, but alas, the weather didn't cooperate and after 4 hours of standing-by waiting for the cloud level to increase, the show was called off.

As it turns out the cloud level remained low throughout the evening giving way to some incredible new versions of Chicago's downtown familiar sites.

The Willis Tower offers stunning views of the city on a clear day. One can see 5 states and many square miles.

A panoramic view of downtown and the north side. One of my favourite images. I love this city!

The sun was about 20 minutes from setting and made for a nice reflection over the city.

The picture may look a little warped and that's due to the method I used in Lightoom to decrease cropping.

Noted for its highly accurate use of ancient Egyptian imagery and hieroglyphics, this building represents one of the nation's best examples of pure academic-style Egyptian Revival commercial architecture. It was built by a storage and moving company founded by John and William Reebie, who are represented by the twin statues of Pharaoh Ramses II flanking the main entrance. The colorful, terra cotta ornament on the exterior was crafted by sculptor Fritz Albert. The interior lobby includes art glass windows, decorative metalwork, lotus-leaf column capitals, and plaster reliefs depicting ancient Egyptians moving grain on barges.

Completed in 1969, the 60 storey Chase Tower is located at 10 South Dearborn Street in Downtown Chicago. Standing at 850 feet, it is the 11th tallest building in the city and tallest located inside the railway loop. The plaza is located at the geographical centre of Chicago's Loop.

The building has had two name changes, first opened as "First National Plaza", then "Bank One Tower" prior to their merger with Chase Bank. The principal tenants are Chase Bank and Exelon Corporation.

The distinctive design, with a wider base curving upwards was the brainchild of C.F. Murphy Associates and Perkins/Will.

shot this one from 2 nights ago...i was actually shooting on the opposite side of the fountain with the skyline as my back drop then i turned around towards the lake and saw the sky starting to turn into this very beautiful deep, dark blue coloration....picked up the tripod and hurried up to this spot to grab a quick shot before the moment was gone....the golden glow of the fountain really looked nice with the deep blue night sky....pls. I had been wanting to get out and reshoot the CBOT for a couple years now, the schedule and weather just happened to line up this evening. I was lucky in that the lights go out at 10:30 and I had just taken a last shot before all went black. Enjoy!

"Since 1930, the Chicago Board of Trade has been operating out of 141 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, in a building designed by architects Holabird & Root that is 605 feet (184 m) tall, the tallest in Chicago until the Richard J. Daley Center superseded it in 1965. This Art Deco building incorporates sculptural work by Alvin Meyer and is capped by a 31-foot (9.5 m) tall statue of the Roman goddess Ceres in reference to the exchange's heritage as a commodity market. Ceres is faceless because its sculptor, John Storrs, believed that the forty-five story building would be sufficiently taller than any other nearby structure and as a result that no one would be able to see the sculpture's face anyway.

On May 4, 1977, the Chicago Board of Trade Building was designated a Chicago Landmark. The building is now a National Historic Landmark. Today the Board of Trade Building is closely joined by numerous skyscrapers in the heart of Chicago's busy Loop commercial neighborhood."
