夜路走多了總會碰到...超級珍獸~台灣甲蟲中的王者, 也是台灣體型最大, 唯一被列入保育類的金龜子, 或許也可以與蛇界的百步蛇並列, 被稱為甲蟲界的山神了吧?😘😘😘
拍了三年微距, 終於第一次拍到他, 帶著金光閃閃的背甲, 在戶外環境中沒有花時間去佈燈, 實在很難拍得清晰, 於是將拍攝重點放到"雄蟲特有"的超長前臂, 來展現他一寸長一寸強的傲人"性徵"...😂😂😂

除了本身數量稀少, 珍貴異常以外, 還有一個隱藏在台灣長臂金龜身上的重大秘密, 就是當你仔細觀察他胸甲與背甲之間的縫隙時, 除了這個區域的色彩異常的豐富以外, 還會發現到一個戴著頭盔的外星寶寶的臉...😮😮😮
許多昆蟲在演化的過程中, 都會去做一個擬態的演化, 比方說有種蛾在翅膀上演化出蛇的圖像, 讓蛾的天敵鳥類較不敢隨便接近, 藉此提高生存機率, 這種演化的過程, 到底是一種偶然的突變還是物種本身的意志促成的, 就不得而知了, 那麼這張臉到底是想要模仿甚麼生物呢, 這恐怕也是人類永遠無法理解的謎團...🤔

Euchirinae is a subfamily of Scarabaeidae or scarab beetles in the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. They are sometimes referred to as "long-armed scarabs" due to the elongated forelegs of the males. These long legs often have median and apical spines that are fixed in the male while females have a movable terminal spine.

13.5" (34.3 cm) square of 24 gsm MC Mitsumata & Salago paper. Green area was painted with mix of Hydrus watercolor / Metallic calligraphy ink. Coloring of whole model was finished with Copic airbrush.

I modified the original design a bit. Cheirotonus beetles has tarsae (feet) that have two hooks on each side, so I thought the usual tarsae that end in two points wasn't enough. These double hooks can be seen clearly here. I also added antennae to the head.

Yanbaru long-armed scarab beetle (Cheirotonus jambar)
I would love to see and photograph one of these beetles in the wild. I have been searching for many years.
According to locals these beetles are extremely valuable in the Illegal pet trade. Overtaking of this protected species has wiped out the populations.

This was a real highlight for me. The beetle was huge, bigger than any I have seen previously. It was seen at the very end of our night walk. The beetle looked too heavy to fly, but it did fly for a short distance having launched itself from someone's trousers!
I came across the name at the Information Centre of the reserve. It is clearly a beetle well known in the area.
I found the following details on the internet. (different sources)
These are the largest beetles found in Taiwan. They belong to a small subfamily of scarabs known as Euchirinae. They are around 75 mm (or 3 inches) in length and this subfamily is known for the extremely long first pair of legs possessed by the males.

Stumbled upon this little bugger while browsing through insects and couldn't resist designing one. It should be folded in a few days, depending on time.
