This cheetah cub had no problem climbing up there but coming down was a bit more challenging! It eventually jumped out of the tree and landed safely on the ground. This photo was taken in the Mara North Conservancy in Kenya.

one of 5 cubs raised by a female Cheetah in a large game reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa in February 2019.

This image was taken early morning when we tracked these beautiful cats on foot with an experienced guide. The Cheetah mother was very relaxed and we stayed with her family for about half an hour.

The next morning when we drove around in that same area we encountered a large Black Rhino bull.

Zebra Plains Mara Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya, June, 2022

I was very fortunate to get this shot. I'm setting in a Sopa Lodge lobby downloading images when a gentleman from China approached me and saw an image of a Lion on my laptop I had gotten that day. He noticed this Lion as he has guided in east Africa for 7 years. He said “Oh that's my Lion..!” “I've been looking for it for a week.” We talked for a few minutes and as we spoke one of his spotters called on his two way radio and told him there was a female Cheetah and cub just about a mile from the lodge. He invited me to go along with him as he had an off-road permit. Meaning he did not have to stay on the predisposed roads like everyone else. I looked for my travel companion for a few minutes and could not find him so I went with this guy and his driver. I grabbed this frame with this guys camera as in my hast I left my SD card in my laptop I gave to the front desk for safe keeping. On the way to these two he got another call letting him know there was a Lion kill about 7 miles from where we were. Unfortunately, it is pretty gory as a pride about 13 in all had taken down a cape buffalo. I grabbed a couple frames but it was too goiry for me to set and watch. I just do not feel it is appropriate to post on Flickr as there was a lot of obvious suffering and blood. So, you get this two posers which is so much more presentable.

Lots more Tetons and Africa images to come.

Once again thanks so much for the visit and have a wonderful week ahead my friends.

This is the fourth day of my #VirtualVacation where I travel around the world reliving past adventures and sharing new images photographed #OnThisDay through the years. January 30th, 2017 was my first full day in Ndutu. And it was incredible. The species that really captured my attention was the Cheetah. In Ndutu there were families ranging in ages from just a few weeks old to more than a year. With a mortality rate of 70% in the wild, it was wonderful to see this older family of four siblings still thriving. We sat watching while they played, practicing their hunting skills. Then, one-by-one they lined up in a row. Well, just about. There’s always one trouble-maker! We have a couple more days in Ndutu before a brief respite back in the US and then back for more African wildlife. Stay tuned!

Cheetahs love higher places like rocks or fallen trees to watch their territory. This foto was taken after a first intermezzo of winter. It only lasted two days...

Geparden lieben erhöhte Orte, um ihr Territorium überblicken zu können. Diese Aufnahme ist beim ersten Wintereinbruch entstanden, der gerade mal 2 Tage gedauert hat.

This adorable little guy was very focused and trying his best to look fierce, as if he would pounce on (nonexistent) prey at any moment :-) I think he was showing off for the crowd!

I loved looking at his furry, over-sized paws...one day he will "grow into" them!

Cheetah with one of 5 cubs

Actually I think I mean almost a tailful!! One of the cubs was much bolder and much more livelier than the other but admittedly they did not stay still for long and this brief image gives you a good idea of what Mama Cheetah was putting up with!

Mum was sat opposite watching them and watching the area. She seemed to be ok with us being a distance away and not making noise.

I think the most heartbreaking aspect of this lovely Cheetah mother's story is that she used to have four cubs, so it's understandable that she was so watchful. We were so privileged that she allowed us to hang out for the time she gave us. Cheetah are vulnerable to poaching and of course habitat loss... but these cubs are vulnerable until they get a lot bigger.... to Lions, Leopards and Hyena, all of whom are in the reserve. I hope they make it.
