Twitter Photo Challenge #TwPhCh
Week #2

Assignment: Food
About:
In the Twitter Photochallenge the challenge this week is: Food. I rarely shot food because I think it is very hard to present food in an appealing way.
But when you have too, you have too :)) I think a lot about how I can shoot images that will go in the food category, without actually shooting food, let's see what tomorrow brings :))
Discussion
Comments and critique are as always welcome. Let me hear your opinion, why do you like this, or even better, how would you approach this scenery. Give me your thoughts... not just a Wow!... only then I can improve :))
Thanks
In and out of Explore, thanks to all for comments and faves :))

So, I have begun my journey into the world of stock photography. I was not too sure about giving stock photography a go, but I am enjoying it. I was going for a really heavy "advertising commercial" feel for this shot. I wanted to keep it simple though and not have anything distracting in the background. I thought about turning this shot into a composite, but I like the simplicity of it. I lit this a lot more evenly than I do for most of my shots. I wanted everything in the picture to be crisp and well-lit. When your using 5 lights in a shot, and fill cards, your shadows must be controlled. This shot was not too hard, it is just making sure you are able to get your models to sell their expressions, products, etc.
Model/photographer relationships are key to any successful shot. I know we all get lucky sometimes and get some amazing shots candidly, but knowing what you want before hitting that shutter is key! You have to learn to make your subjects comfortable, I do this by talking, cracking jokes, and yes even doing ridiculous poses to show what I want...lol. I like to get to know the people that are stepping in front of my lens, I am an observer.
I am not sure how the world of stock photography will treat me, but I am gonna give it a go, maybe even sell a few shots...who knows!
Enjoy,
Hector

I can't come up with a good title that doesn't sound TOTALLY lame, so I'm just leaving it.
This is my very first rotation! I saw this twig hanging with the cobweb on it and thought it looked like a skeleton hand. But the color was too cheerful, so it's Sliders Sunday to the rescue! I had fun with this one. :) (And dude, you SO need to press "L.")

So I was tagged by Lauren Rose. and Yamanize to list 10 things about me, so here goes nothing...
1. I was named after the nurse that took care of my mom when I was born. She says it's because the nurse was so nice to her, but the real reason is because my parents wanted a boy and had no girl names picked out.
2. Growing up I wanted to be an Art teacher. Back up career: forest ranger.
3. Autumn is my favorite season, and it's coming soon... I can smell it...
5. Slightly obsessed with taking pictures, but I guess everyone on Flickr has the same OCD. We're in this together, right?
6. I can say the alphabet backwards without stopping to think about it, ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA, see?
7. I'm a real coastal person. I love everything about it, even the stinky low tide smell.
8. I argue just for the sake of arguing, I can't help it.
9. I probably have more animated conversations with Chloe and Ranger than real ones with people.
10. I organize the shelves in the grocery store, willingly (there's another OCD sneaking in). Oh, and when I was little I alphabetized my Dr. Seuss books, now my books are alphabetized backwards...
The girls wanted this pizza. Those are individual pockets of cheese inside. Didn't try it, was afraid of my lactose intolerance so I ate the island supreme one only..

The car is a 1:76th scale offering whlst the figure is by Noch to the slightly smaller 1:87th scale and comes from the "Ladies of the Night" set of figures .Although the scales are different it really isn't really noticeable.
So there you have it. A cheesy early eighties publicity shoot for Britains ailling car industry or I'm just bored again!
Fun with makeup. I've been watching Top Model reruns again... I know, it's silly...but there's something about it that the artist, fashionista, and photographer in me loves.
Critical Masses: I'm always trying to improve my portraits... I should work more with other people, but here I used myself...which is actually good for practice because I'm more critical of what I create/post. I wanted to experiment with light and color and to achieve something natural, but bright and soft.
Female Self-Portrait Artists' Support Group - here's a lovely example of the abuse you suffer! I love when people feel the need to comment on my flaws for no apparent reason. Great.
Taken for Active Assignment Weekly - Pet Portraits
So first off, I apologize for the repeat assignment....I noticed it after it was too late. If I had been more active I wouldn't have made that error and I apologize.
With that said, I really wanted to get some pet portraits taken this week. This first attempt was indoors and I set up a strobe through an umbrella. The results were a little bland IMO so I tried some photoshop fun to make it look like one of those cheesy 70's/80's portraits.
I am open to criticism so please let me know your thoughts! I hope to get some outdoor ones this weekend.
