Early morning in Erzurum, Turkey, I photographed this empty tea shop getting ready to open for business with its colourful tables and stools, its huge charcoal heated samovar and its sign advertising cheese toast and sausage toast. Looks like a good way to start the day.

The latest outbreak of violent storms turned into cheese toast in the hall closet. The image of lightning frequency was a solid disc of yellow bolts on the weather app so I took it seriously when the alarms went off. We were spared.

Made with English mustard (likely Colman's), butter, sugar, and cheese, with a horizontal toasting sans crusts. This was how my mom made my grilled cheese sandwich as I was growing up, and Lusitano in Central, Hong Kong was where she learned how to make it when she was a child there in the 50s. Between Ice House and Duddle Streets.

I ate by myself on the way home because Toni had an engagement this evening.
I did not feel well on Friday. I was light-headed, had cold sweats and I kept having hot flashes. When I came home from work, I wanted something comforting. To me, that meant ginger ale, burnt cheese toast and steaming hot chicken noodle soup. Mmmmm. I'm all better now. I had an ultrasound on Wednesday. My Doctor wanted to look at my ovaries. She called late Friday afternoon and informed me that I do have at least one ovarian cyst and she would like to prescribe Metformin for PCOS. I have to go in Monday morning for a pregnancy test (not sure why) and then I suppose I will begin taking the medication. Does anyone have any experience with Metformin? I know that it is a diabetic medication, but it is also used to treat PCOS. Just wondering.
