The locals on the island of Hat Yao Noi are very proud and protective of their resident population of oriental pied hornbills (anthracoceros albirostris). As you travel round the island you see many examples of purpose built nesting boxes. This barrel, with its restricted opening and convenient perch, may well gain the approval of this pair.

I've never actually done ANYTHING with this fella... which is very odd. I bought him 1000 years ago for his outfit, and slowly over time he has grown on me.
20070723 TJ and Skeeter climbed on the hotel luggage cart the night we packed up our things to leave for our new home. After 10 weeks of living in the same room they were ready to go in syle! Hubby and I discovered them laying out asleep like this, with parts hanging off the sides of the cart. We felt guilty when we moved them so we could use the cart.
Since my last iPhone picture got so much attention, I thought I would post another few from it. It does a decent job I guess. But it could certainly be better for squirmy subject matter like girlfriends who hate pictures.

Vintage, found snapshot of an unidentified group of tourists embracing the Hawaii hula culture. That dude looks like he's got a good view of something. Based on the type of photo and the women's hairstyle I'm gonna date this shot 1969-1972.

I did some small, cosmetic clean-up retouches in photoshop.
Any comments or observations are much appreciated!

The Uyghurs are a very welcoming Muslim Turkic ethnic group living in Eastern and Central Asia. About 7,2 millions of them live in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region at the western extremity of China. Uighur means unity or alliance. Their origins seem to come back to the Ding Ling nomads, in the 3rd century BC. The ancestors of the Uyghurs mixed with Turkish nomad tribes, Hans, Mongolians and Tibetans. With the settlement of the population and the development of trade, commercial links with China developped on the Silk Road. At the end of the 10th century, Islam spread. The imperial governement of China then implemented a tight control over the region. This led to the unrest of Uqturpan in 1765. Rebellions and separatist revendications have never ceased since then, even after the region became autonomous in 1955. Islam used to have a real influence on economic, legal land educational affairs as well as on the matrimonial system. Nowadays religion has shrunk to the personal space.
