Our Career Fair & Wellness Checkup event was a huge success! Students had the opportunity to interview with prospective employers in different fields and employers left with several resumes of well-qualified candidates! #CityCollege #CityCollegeGainesville #CareerServices #JobFair #GetHired #CityCollegeSuccess

Post quarantine period started with two successful free medical checkup camps.

Lockdown has left many long lasting effects on everyone's mind and body. Complete focus on Covid lead to ignorance in other health conditions. Not only treatments like diabetes, hypertension were ignored, but anorectal health condition likes piles, fissures, fistula also took toll over health.

Lack of awareness and understanding of anorectal issues makes the condition worse. So taking immediate action and adding voice to spread awareness becomes necessary.

At Kurkumbh 54 villagers were benifitted with free medical checkup drive.Anorectal conditions like constipation, piles, fissure, fistula were focused during the drive.

Dr. Yogesh Yelwande diagnosed them all. Ms Tejashree Khalate counselled them.Mrs Anita Said helped them with medicines.

Dr. Uttam Kamble(M.O, PHC Kurkumbh),

Mrs Damayanti Kaniche, and Mrs Jayashree Shinde(Staff Nurse, PHC Kurkumbh),ASHA Mrs Sandipa Shinde and Sunita Zagade.

Good Health Before Pregnancy: Prepregnancy Care

- What is a prepregnancy care checkup?

This is the first step in planning a healthy pregnancy. The purpose of this checkup is to look for anything that could have an impact on your pregnancy. Because significant organs develop in a fetus during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy, identifying these factors is essential.

- What happens during a prepregnancy care checkup?

During this visit, your obstetric care provider will make sure you have gotten all the vaccines recommended for your age group, talk about the risk of STIs and how to protect yourself and they will also talk about your diet and lifestyle, medical and family history, medications you take and past pregnancies

- How can I try to be healthier before pregnancy?

The months leading up to your pregnancy are the best time to take steps to be healthier. These steps may include taking prenatal vitamin, keeping your environment safe, stopping the use of unhealthy substances (tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, and prescription drugs taken for a nonmedical reason), eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and reaching and maintaining a healthy weight (Being underweight or overweight may cause problems during pregnancy).

Cutting back on your daily calories intake and exercising more are great steps to reach a health body weight if you are overweight.

Nurse Eugenia providing Amina, 15, with an antenatal checkup.

Amina, 15, is pregnant expecting her first child. She is internally displaced due to conflict in Cabo Delgado and unable to return home. Amina lives on an island in Ibo District and is receiving antenatal care from Nurse Eugenia. The mobile brigade travels to Amina and other expectant and new mothers in Ibo using the UNFPA-supported boat ambulance. She is unable to afford travel costs to a nearby island for antenatal appointments, so is grateful for the services provided by the Mobile Brigade.

Eugenia Maria Dias, a nurse who is part of the Mobile Brigade and uses the UNFPA-supported boat ambulance to reach new and expectant mothers on islands in Ibo District where she provides antenatal and SMI (saúde materno-infantil/Mother and Child) consultations.

The UNFPA-supported boat ambulance is run by the government of Mozambique and operates out of Ibo District, in the conflict-affected province of Cabo Delgado. The boat, captained by Amisse, carries medical staff like Nurse Eugenia to communities on remote islands, where services including ante-and postnatal care can be carried out. The boat can also transfer patients to the provincial hospital for life-saving treatment. Since the start of 2022, more than 15,000 people from islands in Ibo in Cabo Delgado have received support from the mobile brigades. The boat service enabled 73 surgeries in the second half of 2022.

This mobile support is critical as many health centres have been damaged or have reduced capacity due to worsening violence and insecurity in the north of Mozambique.

These boats are part of UNFPA projects, funded by the UK Government and the Government of Japan.
