Street photography from Edinburgh, Scotland.
A previously unpublished shot from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2017. I have no idea why someone was very publicly adorned with a chess board. Enjoy the conundrum!

Unfortunately, the NS crew on this coal drag was obviously not a fan of people lineside, as was exhibited by turning off the ditchlights in Whiting. Fortunately for me, they can’t (legally) do that over a public crossing like Lumber Street.
And even with the ditchlights being turned off almost immediately after going over the crossing, I was still able to walk away with a useable frame.
BNSF 9650, the only Executive paint SD70MAC with both PTC and a Wagon Wheel logo, takes an empty Detroit Edison set over the lift bridge at CP 21st Street. The crew was along the ride since Toledo, and would soon get swapped for a (much nicer) BNSF crew at Western Avenue.

Through the Iris
Song by 10 Years
Lyrics
Cherish
Two circular views of blue with a grey shade
So captivating
More than you know
False perceptions
That brought forth these questions of
Truth, love and hope
Now that you're injuring
I'll carry you with me
Just please hold on
Disappear and dissolve
A weakening wall
Will one day fall
It's wise to sever our loss
A redefined pulse
Through your iris
Love's not all lost
But it's nailed to my cross
And crucified all that I've held on
To be awaiting
Anticipating a touch such as yours
False affection
A spawn of neglecting
Of love lost hoax
Please understand me
That now where you're standing
Is closer than I'd hoped
Disappear and dissolve
A weakening wall
Will one day fall
It's wise to sever our loss
A redefined pulse
Through your iris
Your iris
Your iris
Disappear and dissolve
A weakening wall
Will one day fall
It's wise to sever our loss
A redefined pulse
Through your iris
Disappear and dissolve
A weakening wall
Will one day fall
It's wise to sever our loss
A redefined pulse
Through your iris
Looks like Mash dominated the game.

#macromondays #checkered
I decided to share this image for the upcoming #macromondays theme called #checkered
The term checkered has multiple meanings depending on the context:
1. Pattern
In design and visual contexts, checkered refers to:
A pattern made up of alternating squares, typically in two contrasting colors, such as black and white.
It is commonly seen in items like checkered flags (used in racing), tablecloths, clothing, or tiles.
Variations include:
Regular checkered: Uniform, equally-sized squares.
Irregular checkered: Squares may vary in size or arrangement.
2. Metaphorical Meaning
In a figurative sense, checkered describes:
A history, career, or past with mixed fortunes or events, often containing both successes and failures or good and bad times.
Example: "He had a checkered past, marked by both notable achievements and controversies."
3. Other Contexts
Geography/Maps: "Checkered" might describe a landscape or map divided into squares or parcels.
Textiles: In fabric design, it’s one of the oldest patterns, often associated with certain cultural or traditional garments (like tartans or plaid).
