Lacave: Chateau de France - History
Belcastel Castle is located in the town of Lacave in the Lot department, in France. At the confluence of the Dordogne and the Ouysse, 150 m above sea level, it overlooks a cliff about 55 meters above the rivers.
The castle consists of a residential building dating from the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century, incorporating a keep from the 15th century. A chapel mentioned in a charter of 1154 but today in the 15th century style is distinct.
Built by Adhémar de Turenne, viscount of the Échelles (898-941), the castle was mentioned in 930 in his will for the benefit of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Martin de Tulle under the name Castrum etiam bellum (“Castle still beautiful”). It's a private property and cannot be visited. Château de Belcastel is situated nearby to the place of worship Église de Lacave and Grottes de Lacave.

Just a little downstream the Dordogne river there's one of it's greatest rivals, Château de Beynac. Upstream the's Château de Montfort. They, any many more castles like these, all took part in many medieval wars.

Par la suite , le château fut profondément remanié en particulier à la renaissance ( XV° siècle ) .

Inspiring dark medieval view at Château de Beynac. This castle dates far back into a dark medieval era where daily life begun at sunrise and almost stopped during the deep dark nights. Even the many kings and knights, then the mighty rulers of castles and grounds, were always controlled by the simple rythm of day and night.

Beynac-et-Cazenac: Chateau de France
One of the most impressive castles in the Dordogne valley, Château de Beynac (Est. 1115). Built by the barons of Beynac. Perched on top of a limestone cliff with double crenellated walls, moats and barbican. it has a grand view over the Dordogne valley with other castles in all directions.
The Dordogne region was the theatre of numerous struggles for influence, rivalries and occasionally battles but the castles fell more often through ruse and intrigue rather than by direct assault. During the Hundred Years' War the Dordogne was the border between France and England. The fortress at Beynac was in French hands and Château de Castelnaud, on the opposite bank of the Dordogne river, was held by the English. At Châlus in the same Aquitaine region of Château de Beynac is where Richard Cœur de Lion, King of England (ruled from 1189–1199) died.
Nowadays it's one of the best preserved castles, a monument of history and absolutely worth to visit.

You might just pass by the small medieval village of Berbiguières. However, the village is full of peace and serenity, the landscape is beautiful. With a prominent 12th century castle, surrounded by a medieval village and a small church. Only the dry sounds of the church bells sound every hour.

Berbiguières - Château de France
Château de Berbiguières (Est. 12th to 17th century) - a somewhat hidden castle in the Périgord Noir in the small mainly medieval village of Berbiguières. The castle was classified as a historic monument in 1948.
In the second half of the thirteenth century, Château de Berbiguières was owned by the Castelnau family, who also owned the Château de Castelnaud. In 1365, Magne de Castelnau married Nompar de Caumont. Special because later François de Caumont built Château des Milandes around 1489, the main house of the lords of Caumont, who preferred to live in this manor house instead of the large, uncomfortable medieval castle of Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle..

Monbazillac - Château de Monbazillac - Château de France
Château de Monbazillac (16th century) - the castle and it's vineyards are symbolic for the Bergerac region. The well known AOC of Monbazillac, an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée is a high quality sweet white wine. Made and only sold from grapes grown in Monbazillac that are affected by the "noble rot" (Botrytis cinerea). The appellation covers almost 2,000 hectares of vineyards where no mechanical harvesting is allowed.
