Snowdrops [Galanthus]

These little beauties have withstood quite awful weather in the last couple of weeks - freezing temps, gale-force winds, hailstones, snow, ice, and torrential rain. Today, the sun came out and they were absolutely resplendent in their bright whiteness. I love snowdrops!

All God's children need travelling shoes

Drive your problems from here

All good people read good books

Now your conscience is clear

I hear you talk, girl

Now your conscience is clear

In the morning when I wipe my brow

Wipe the miles away

I like to think I can be so willed

And never do what you say

I'll never hear you

And never do what you say

Look, my eyes are just holograms

Look, your love has drawn red from my hands

From my hands you know you'll never be

More than twist in my sobriety

More than twist in my sobriety

More than twist in my sobriety

We just poked a little empty pie

For the fun that people had at night

Late at night don't need hostility

Timid smile and pause to free

I don't care about their different thoughts

Different thoughts are good for me

Up in arms and chaste and whole

All God's children took their toll

Cup of tea, take time to think, yeah

Time to risk a life, a life, a life

Sweet and handsome

Soft and porky

You pig out 'til you've seen the light

Pig out 'til you've seen the light

Vibrant birds fluff out their feathered costumes, Listening as warm winds pass through talking trees. Hidden in a desert of lush green foliage, Enclosed in a ring of bleach white sand.Take chance to experience the scenery breathtaking beauty. "

Octave Mirbeau constructed a narrative of lovers’ escape into another time and another space as a response to the apparent release from the law of gravity:

"Mademoiselle Camille Claudel has courageously confronted one of the greatest difficulties of sculpture: a dance movement. An infinite art is required, if it is not to become vulgar or remain frozen in stone. Mademoiselle Claudel has conquered that art."

Embracing one another, the woman adorably placing her head on the man’s shoulder, the couple is moving away, turning round and round in slow motion, voluptuous and chaste. They are nearly lifted off the ground, quasi-aerial, supported by a mysterious force which holds their leaning bodies in balance. They fly away, as if carried by wings. But where are they going, lost in the exaltation of their soul and flesh, so closely united? Is it towards love or towards death? The flesh is young, they palpitate with life, but the drapery which envelops and follows them, and turns round with them, clings like a shroud.

I shoulda taken my tripod with me .....here's a shot of this special falls in Yellowstone. The trees cut off the rest of it.

"Approximately 1,000 yards (910 m) upstream from the creek's confluence with the Yellowstone River, the fall plunges 132 feet (40 m). Its name comes from the rock pinnacles at the top of the fall. Tower Creek and Tower Fall are located approximately three miles south of Roosevelt Junction on the Tower-Canyon road.

In August 1870, the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition camped near and explored the Tower Fall area for several days en route to Yellowstone Lake. In his 1871 report to Secretary of War Gustavus C. Doane, a member of the expedition described Tower Falls thus:

"Nothing can be more chastely beautiful than this lovely cascade, hidden away in the dim light of overshadowing rocks and woods, its very voice hushed to a low murmur, unheard at the distance of a few hundred yards. Thousands might pass by within a half mile and not dream of its existence; but once seen, it passes to the list of most pleasant memories. In the afternoon the remainder of the party arrived, having lost the trail on the previous day."

A well-known painting of the falls by Thomas Moran in 1871 helped persuade Congress to set aside Yellowstone as the world's first national park in 1872." Wikipedia

Words

The world does not need words. It articulates itself

in sunlight, leaves, and shadows. The stones on the path

are no less real for lying uncatalogued and uncounted.

The fluent leaves speak only the dialect of pure being.

The kiss is still fully itself though no words were spoken.

And one word transforms it into something less or other--

illicit, chaste, perfunctory, conjugal, covert.

Even calling it a kiss betrays the fluster of hands

glancing the skin or gripping a shoulder, the slow

arching of neck or knee, the silent touching of tongues.

Yet the stones remain less real to those who cannot

name them, or read the mute syllables graven in silica.

To see a red stone is less than seeing it as jasper--

metamorphic quartz, cousin to the flint the Kiowa

carved as arrowheads. To name is to know and remember.

The sunlight needs no praise piercing the rainclouds,

painting the rocks and leaves with light, then dissolving

each lucent droplet back into the clouds that engendered it.

The daylight needs no praise, and so we praise it always--

greater than ourselves and all the airy words we summon.

The Fountain of Diana and Actaeon.

a young hunter named Actaeon meet with chaste Diana, goddess of the hunt. The latter is nude and enjoying a bath in a spring with help from her escort of nymphs when the mortal man unwittingly stumbles upon the scene. The nymphs scream in surprise and attempt to cover Diana, who, in a fit of embarrassed fury, splashes water upon Actaeon. He is transformed into a deer, robbed of his ability to speak, and thereafter promptly flees in fear. It is not long, however, before his own hounds track him down and kill him, failing to recognize their master

Carpenter bees resemble bumblebees, but typically have a shiny, hairless abdomen. (Bumblebees usually have a hairy abdomen with black and yellow stripes.) The bees also have different nesting habits—bumblebees nest in an existing cavity often underground (e.g., in abandoned rodent burrows), whereas carpenter bees tunnel into wood to lay their eggs. Carpenter bees do not live in colonies like honeybees or bumblebees. The adults overwinter individually, often in previously constructed brood tunnels. Those that survive the winter emerge and mate the following spring. Fertilized female carpenter bees then bore into wood, excavating a tunnel to lay their eggs. The entrance hole in the wood surface is perfectly round and about the diameter of your little finger. Coarse sawdust may be present below the opening, and tunneling sounds are sometimes heard within the wood. After boring in a short distance, the bee makes a right angle turn and continues to tunnel parallel to the wood surface. Inside the tunnel, about five or six cells are constructed for housing individual eggs. Working back to front, the bee provisions each cell with pollen (collected from spring-flowering plants) and a single egg, sealing each successive chamber with regurgitated wood pulp. Hatching and maturation occurs over several weeks, with the pollen serving as a food source for the developing larvae. Later in the summer, the new generation of adult bees emerge and forage on flowers, returning to wood in the fall for hibernation.

The name Agnes is name of Greek origin meaning "pure, virginal".

Agnes is the Latin variation of the name Hagne, which itself derived from the Greek word hagnos, meaning “chaste.”

The Santa Iglesia Basilica Catedral Metropolitana de San Salvador de Oviedo is a Gothic-style cathedral that is located in the city of Oviedo (Principality of Asturias, Spain). It is also known as Sancta Ovetensis, referring to the quality and quantity of the relics it contains.

It began to be built at the end of the 13th century by the chapter house and the cloister, and its construction lasted for three centuries until the top of the tower in the middle of the 16th century. Later an ambulatory was added in the seventeenth century in addition to various chapels attached to the side naves.

The church is located on the site of the previous pre-Romanesque cathedral complex from the 9th century, some of whose buildings have survived. For this reason and the length of the construction of the current building, it contains structures of pre-Romanesque style (Holy Chamber), Romanesque (vaults and apostolate of the Holy Chamber), Gothic (facade, naves and cloister), Renaissance (top of the tower ) and baroque (Girola, Chapel of the Chaste King and other chapels).

The Holy Chamber, from the 9th century, is declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco and houses the cathedral's most precious jewels: the Victoria and the Angels crosses, symbols of Asturias and the city of Oviedo respectively, the Caja of the Agates and the Holy Ark, which contains a large number of relics among which is the Holy Shroud.

In 2015, in the approval by Unesco of the extension of the Camino de Santiago in Spain to "Caminos de Santiago de Compostela: French Way and North of Spain Paths", it was included, with the Holy Chamber, as one of the individual assets (ref. no. 669bis-005) of the primitive path.

From shadow to light in the heart of the Amethyst - Auvergne - France - Europe

-------------------

The name of this semi-precious stone is of Greek origin. Methystos means drunkenness, the prefix -a indicates deprivation. Amethyst therefore refers to sobriety. But why is the name of this mineral linked to freedom from drunkenness?

In Greek mythology, Amethystos is the name of a nymph. Dionysus, god of wine and drunkenness wanted her, but she wanted to remain chaste and refused her advances. The goddess Artemis then transformed Amethystos into hard and cold crystal, thus protecting her from Dionysus' evil intentions. Mad with anger, Dionysus spilled his glass of wine on this crystal. This then took on an intense purple color.

The Greeks and Romans were familiar with this mythological story. Therefore, to prevent drunkenness, they drank from amethyst cups. During ancient times among the Egyptians, this stone was also used to make rain fall during drought. A symbol of abundance and luck, the Amethyst was a sign of good fortune if it appeared in dreams to the Hebrew people.

For Christians, the Amethyst becomes a symbol of purity and humility when Joseph offers a ring set with an Amethyst to Mary. This stone also symbolizes love. Saint Valentine, the priest behind the feast of lovers, wore an Amethyst around his neck. Another meaning for Christians is that of fidelity. In fact, the Bishops of the Vatican wear a ring adorned with an Amethyst. This jewel symbolizes their dedication to The Church, and the symbols related to Amethyst reinforce this union.

During the Italian Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci used Amethyst to dispel his negative thoughts. This stone also allowed him to boost his innovative intelligence. He also sells the use of this stone in one of his notebooks.

In the past, the main deposits of Amethyst were in India. Today, Amethyst deposits are found all over the world. The most important are in Brazil and Uruguay. But deposits also exist in France, in Auvergne for example.

Lilium candidum, the Madonna lily, is a plant in the true lily family. It is native to the Balkans and Middle East, and naturalized in other parts of Europe, including France, Italy, and Ukraine, and in North Africa, the Canary Islands, Mexico, and other regions. It has been cultivated since antiquity, for at least 3,000 years, and has great symbolic value since then for many cultures.

The white lily symbolizes chastity in the iconography of the Catholic Church and some of the Orthodox churches. For example, Medieval depictions of the Annunciation show Gabriel the Archangel handing a white lily to the Virgin Mary. Additionally, the white lily is the attribute of other virginal and chaste saints, such as Saint Joseph, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Maria Goretti.

… So Jae Jae jetted off to France just the day after I shot his portrait last week. I'll probably visit him later this year in Parc des Félins near Paris. And in moved young Asim from Denmark. I caught him shortly after his arrival, already marking his new territory with gusto and happily chuffing at Melati, who had chastely retired to a separate enclosure, although she seemed quite interested in her new would-be suitor. Seems like Jae Jae is old news already :-) Asim, just like Jae Jae and Melati, is a very much endangered Sumatran tiger (panthera tigris sumatrae).

Gwynedd, North Wales.

THE LADY OF SNOWDON

When shadows at eventide steal o’er the land,

With darkness descending at nature’s command,

The Lady of Snowdon retires all alone,

To muse with the Pixie, the Fairy, and Gnome.

She never appears to be weary or tire,

Her eyes do not sparkle with love or desire,

But severe, and aloof, amidst boulder and tarn,

She reigns o’er Llyn Peris, and fair Llyn Padarn.

Her dignified mien can be noted afar,

With patience reposing in peacetime or war,

She has changed not or altered in eons untold,

The Lady of Snowdon will never grow old.

This virgin of nature, unsullied, and chaste,

Reigns Queen of this barren and desolate waste,

She’s wed to the mountains, no power can them sever,

The Lady of Snowdon will live for ever.

 — W.M.

'Nor will I then thy modest grace forget, Chaste Snow-drop, venturous harbinger of Spring, And pensive monitor of fleeting years!'

William Wordsworth

Lone flower, hemmed in with snows, and white as they

But hardier far…..

Nor will I then thy modest grace forget,

Chaste snowdrop, venturous harbinger of spring,

And pensive monitor of fleeting years.

Lines from William Wordsworth sonnet “To a snowdrop”

It has certainly got a fair bit colder in the past two days . Nevertheless the garden is beginning to awaken I took these snowdrops , hellebores and violas yesterday . It is always good to see the first flowers of the new horticultural year.

I expect someone will come out with that old chestnut that the cold weather will kill the flowers off, actually it won’t . I have been cultivating this little patch of earth for almost thirty years plants always begin to flower in late January and even if they are hit by very cold weather and inches of snow they will stay well and flower away when the thaw comes . I planted the hellebores over 25 years ago they have coped with severe winters and hot and dry summers without a problem I think they are probably indestructible ….and an annual joy

Love ain't fair

So there you are

My love

Your heart's a mess

You won't admit to it

It makes no sense

But I'm desperate to connect

And you, you can't live like this

Love ain't safe

You won't get hurt if you stay chaste

So you can wait

But I don't wanna waste my love

Dzika konopljika przyciąga pazia żeglarza (Iphiclides podalirius) swoimi pachnącymi, liliowymi kwiatami. Lata niespokojnie — ale ja byłem gotów go uchwycić.

The Chaste Tree has pretty purple flowers (inset) just now in blossom in the Hortus. As I was examining them, I noticed on some unopened buds this small orange wasp. Quite appropriate, too. This shrub in Antiquity was considered sacred to the goddess Hestia or Vesta, she of the hearth. The color associated with her is the golden-orange of the embers in a hearth fire. And that fits in well with the coloring of this Braconid (if that is indeed what it is; perhaps someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.)

"There are people who take the heart out of you,

and there are those who put it back."

"Sometimes we just give our heart away,

no expectations from those we give it to.

Also, with no ryhme, nor reason.

Love ain't fair

So there you are

My love

Your heart's a mess

You won't admit to it

It makes no sense

But I'm desperate to connect

And you, you can't live like this

Love ain't safe

You won't get hurt if you stay chaste

So you can wait

But I don't wanna waste my love

The full Moon in March is also called Worm Moon (named by native Americans after the signs of the worm trails on thawing ground indicating the nature is awakening). It also has other names reflecting activities at the start of spring like the Sap Moon as tapping maple trees also starts at this time of the year. The Cotswold Way, Lansdown, near Bath. Taken at the shore of the Chastè Peninsula, in the Lej da Segl, Grisons

At exactly 1800 meters above sealevel... Europe's highest scheduled boat crosses Lake Sils, docks in Plaun da Lej and Maloja and passes places steeped in history such as the Chastè peninsula, where the bench where Friedrich Nietzsche once found inspiration for his books stands under larches. The entire round trip takes forty minutes on the largest lake in Graubünden. The route from Sils to Maloja is also a welcome change from the classic Four Lakes hike, which can be shortened by an hour in this way. The highest scheduled boat line in Europe has been around for over a hundred years.

The hard truth is we are doomed to be chaste. To never touch each other, hear each other, see each other... so what harm can there be to write to each other?
