The BLS reported today that the economy added 71,000 private sector jobs in the month of July, marking the seventh consecutive month of private sector job growth, even as overall employment declined due to the loss of temporary Census jobs.
36,000 manufacturing jobs were added in July, with 183,000 manufacturing jobs added this year.
K's often been frustrated with me at my difficulty understanding her when she's talking, especially in noisy environments. So we went in to Oregon City to see the ENT and Audiologist.
The audiologist subjected me to three different tests and this is the result of one of them. He explained that this is what listening to rock concerts (and other sustained loud noises) will do to your hearing. Because this is a log chart, it reveals that sounds at 2000-4000 Hz frequencies are 100 to 1000 times fainter for me than they are for K (her report has a straight line at the 10dB level at these frequencies).
I can distinguish words well in a quiet room, fortunately.
Apparently this type of damage is hard to help with hearing aids, and the damage is significant, so I can't manage much more reduction in hearing ability without starting to have a real problem. The audiologist and ENT both warned me to always use ear protection for any loud environment (concerts, even a single cut on the table saw, mowing the lawn).

This is my version of the stitch - it may not be correct. Thank you to Angelica Mountains on the Sitchin Fingers Ning for introducing me to this stitch. If any Ukrainian readers can let me know if the chart is right or not, I would be very pleased. This one produces a pleasant and distinctive little stitch. It is not difficult to work. Not my most elegant chart - I've changed colours to make the overs-and-unders clearer, it is all worked with one colour of thread. (The straight grey thing is meant to be the needle, by the way!)

Living near the ocean, I know plenty of people who are fishermen or who work on boats. Just like you might have a road map or atlas in your car, many sailors bring nautical charts a long with them on their trips out to sea. Just like road maps these are updated almost every year ("SEA MONSTER HERE") haha.
The map I made this book out of is from Hulls cove, near Bar Harbor, Maine. I love the soft blues, browns and greens on this map, and they're set off nicely by the gold grommets on the covers - it reminds me of a sail on a sailboat.

Crochet squares are traditionally made into colourful blankets (known as Afghans in the USA), either by crocheting a huge square or by stitching small squares together. Such a simple pattern works well as a rug design and the simplicity of the pattern means it can be expanded lengthways to create a long carpet/hall runner. My chart uses two iterations of rainbow colours.

We learned a few months ago, but couldn't announce it until today, that Serena was picked for School of Rock Show Team, which is pretty high honors. They're the public face of the organization, and they play lots of benefits and parties and PR events. Serena's in primarily for sax until some of the seniors graduate, but they are considering her a utility player, because she can play guitar and drums, too, and she sings.

Goldwell was nominated on 17 July 1472 and consecrated on 4 October 1472. He died on 15 February 1499.
His brother Nicholas d1505 Dean of the College of St Mary in the Fields, asked in his will for his house and lands in Barnham Broom, Norfolk, to be sold and the proceeds used for the ‘wele’ of the soul of his brother. An officer from 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment plots a patrol route with his Afghan National Army counterpart.
Developing the Afghan National Security Forces is a key part of the counter-insurgency strategy being adopted by British troops in Afghanistan. These home-grown authorities have an essential and ever-increasing role in providing security and governance in Afghanistan.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, usually based in Colchester, Essex, are playing their part in this endeavour, working in partnership with warriors from the Afghan National Army in the northern Nad-e Ali area of Helmand province.
New members of the ANA are deployed to 2 PARA’s area of operations having already undergone their initial recruit training and been formed into units. The Paratroopers work intensively to develop and consolidate the training they have already received, mentoring them as they conduct patrols and man checkpoints.
ISAF is currently making excellent progress in growing the Afghan National Army, with 149,000 already fully-trained across the country and the target for 171,600 by the end of 2011 well on track. Police recruitment and training is also ahead of schedule.
