This is a macro image of a sphere of Charoite, however it looks more like cabbage? I just love the illusion of 3-D when it's just a spherical surface. I pushed the colors a bit in this one.
This image was captured with my Canon 7D2 and a 65mm 1-5X macro using the Cognisys Stackshot system. Merged using Helicon Focus.

Hawaii...
she has a fire in her belly,
the angels' breath for breeze,
and the song of her sea keeps calling me home.
This little piece was inspired by the Hawaiian Islands, which to me have an immediately elemental essence, and whose beauty is both subtle and severe at the same time. What I was trying to achieve was an abstract of the island's geography/landscape. Can you see it?
The Big Island is on fire within, its earth active and still forming and becoming. The sea is ever-present, and the air is always moving so that you feel and hear that which you cannot see. The lava rock landscape is in stark contrast to the tropical paradisal beauty, and its harshness seems alien, as if of another planet.
I did not set out to use 30+ different materials. I was primarily driven by the color, texture, and desired andamento. I had a basic pattern, which was slightly modified as I went, but there was a lot of spontaneity going on. Though I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do, I did not have each layer/section completely figured out. So... this piece was a bit of an expedition.
Intricatly wire wrapped 28Ct UNIQUE Natural Russian Charoite (29mm) Cabochon. The focal stone in this shield pendant has an almost tangible movement of energy flowing in magnificent swirls of violet, lavender and purple. It is set on a handmade viking knit adjustable chain (15" to 18") with amethyst and agate accents. Approximate pendant diameter 1.8"
An amazing purple mineral that is the sister stone to seraphinite. Both are found only in Siberia, on the opposite sides of a mountain.

Charoite is strange stuff, I don't know how it gets the complicated swirls, but it really is unique...

One of the bestselling books of all time, the literary classic, "She", was penned by H Rider Haggard in 1887 and remains, to this day, an impressive epitome of well-written imaginative literature. The title is short for "She Who Must Be Obeyed", a translation of the Arabic honorific used for Ayesha by the Amahagger, a tribe whom she has enslaved. With the main character supposedly inspired by the Balobedu Rain Queen Masalanabo Modjadji.
Mysterious, gorgeous, scary, elusive, passionate, powerful, fearful and desirable, Ayesha is the prototypical all-powerful female figure.
This wristwrapper, She Who Must Be Obeyed, is a lush adaptation of the novel's theme of power + life, death + reincarnation, of sexuality, and of fate.
Very RARE, very HIGH GRADE Russian Purple Charoite Briolettes abound in this design - an entire strand, truth be told - the colour *purple* was the only way to go to accurately interpret the themes of strength, intrigue, sensuality, ruthlessness and lust.
The centrestone here is a large, impressive nugget of Mystic Blue Grey Quartz weighing a hefty 27 Carats. Yes, this is my shard of Amenartas :) and it's been simply but prettily accented with contrasting trims of Rhodolite Garnet and Brazilian Blue Apatite.
Remember those super RARE, highly coveted Russian Purple Charoite Briolettes? These drape sensuously around the wrist, cavorting quite shamelessly with Mystic Black Topaz Disco Balls and Briolettes of Polished Kyanite, Moss Aquamarine, RARE Grape Chalcedony and Colombian Emeralds.
She Who Must Be Obeyed would be incomplete without the presence of Labradorite. Here, that powerful gemstone makes its appearance in the form of Mystic Briolettes, Polished Rounds as well as Onion Briolettes with super schiller.
Subtle colour surfaces in Ruby Rounds, and Ovals of Sapphire and Blue Apatite.
The dynamic duo of Lobster Claw Clasp and extension chain effortlessly enables this piece to be adjusted from 7" to 9.25". Owing to her decadent clusters, she best fits wrists sized from 5.5" to 7.25".
A wee note about the polishing - I intentionally buffed specific bits only and allowed others to remain darkly sexy in order to illustrate, yes you got it, the play of dark versus light.

"She" or "She: A History of Adventure" is an 1887 novel by H Rider Haggard which developed the conventions of the Lost World sub-genre, a style that many other authors have since emulated.
In this work, "She" is Ayesha, more (in)famously known as "She Who Must Be Obeyed", the exquisite yet deadly White Queen of the African city of Kôr. The prototypical all-powerful female figure, Ayesha is both desired and feared. A breathtakingly beautiful creature who won't hesitate to kill anyone who displeases her or stands in her way, Ayesha has been waiting 2000 years for the reincarnation of her lover Kallikrates, whom she'd slain in a fit of jealous rage. She believes Vincey (our hero) to be a reincarnation of Kallikrates.
And so, in accordance with the themes prevalent in Haggard's tome, I present Ayesha the earrings.
A celebration of power, sensuality, passion, mystery, these danglers are perhaps the most petite I've ever designed in terms of length but perfectly embody the flamboyance and lush opulence you've come to expect from Eclettica.
Intriguing Polished Ovals of Brazilian Blue Apatite are wrapped within gilded Herringbone cages of Oxidised Silver, accented with Blood Red Rhodolite Garnets. Tumbling downwards are waterfalls of Blue Flash Labradorite Rondelles speckled with more Blue Apatite as well as Colombian Emeralds.
Each cascade climaxes with pure shots of luxe gems namely a Polished Kyanite Briolette, a Faceted Teal Kyanite Briolette and a singular very RARE, very HIGH GRADE Russian Purple Charoite Briolette which has been crowned with a final Colombian Emerald Rondelle.
Ayesha flows Southwards to the tune of 2.25" and features lavish use of both 925 Sterling and 999 Fine Silvers. Ear Posts feature a beautifully archaic design.
As with her matching bracelet, She Who Must Be Obeyed, I intentionally polished specific bits only and allowed others to remain darkly sexy in order to illustrate, yes you got it, that mysterious but oh so alluring play of dark versus light.

So totally inspired by the lush creations of Holly over @ Bijoux d'Odalisque :)
This is my interpretation - Confessions Of A Modern Day Odalisque.
Too-many-to-count Smooth Amethyst Rondelles, each individually wrapped and coiled with Copper wire, there are 4 per chain link and I must have used up at least 3.5 strands here. These lovely babies merrily flirt with Smooth Herringbone-Woven Kyanite Coins, Russian Charoite and Brazilian Kyanite Rondelles to form a decadent ring-a-round-o-rosey around the neck. Faceted Amethyst Rounds make an appearance here and there too.
The piece de resistance? An intricate wire-wrapped Pendant featuring crocheted loops, spruced up with teeny tiny 24K Gold Seed Beads, more Smooth Amethyst Rondelles and an opulent Smooth Caribbean Blue Chalcedony Teardrop.
Ooh la la.
Check out too the wire-wrapped charm dangling near the chain extension, it's very intricate, loads of basket-weaving, more 24K Gold Seed Beads and Smooth Amethyst Rondelles.
Thanks heaps to Holly for reaffirming my mantra that more truly IS more! You rock, dear!
Thanks tons to Dawne for the luscious Smooth Kyanite Briolette! You're a gem!
View of a fibrous portion of russian mineral gemstone specimen, charoite, showing microscopic fibers (see the polished, "front-side" of this sample here).
When polished, there is a wonderful chatoyant effect that charoite exhibits, which owes itself to the fibrous nature of the mineral itself. In most charoite material, the appearance of lavender/purple swirling, fragmented (or brecciated) constituents is unique to the gemstone.
Oftentimes, the fibers in this type of mineral and other similar fibrous minerals, such as pietersite, yuksporite, denisovite, tokkoite, tiger's eye, hawk's eye, cat's eye, Arizona tiger's eye, binghamite, silkstone, etc., have been "cemented" together by replacement with silica quartz during a process called silicification.
However, as this sample demonstrates, apparently not all fibrous-based ornamental stone was created equal. Sometimes the silicification process may not have been complete throughout a particular mineral deposit or within individual samples, leaving pure, fibrous minerals in the material. Unfortunately, this situation may introduce asbestiform or fibrous mineral exposures during the minerals' collection, handling, transportation, lapidary and jewelry-making process. Literally tons of the fibrous rock materials are traded in worldwide markets on a daily basis.
When working with the rough, fibrous materials, imagine using high-speed lapidary saws, sanding, and abrasive rotary equipment on fiber-bearing rocks. The possibility of excessive airborne silica exposures alone would seem risky enough without adequate respiratory protection and ventilation, but add fibrous or asbestiform minerals into the mix and the whole process could be potentially hazardous.

Charoitite (charoite-dominated potassic metasomatite) from the Cretaceous of Siberia. (field of view: 5.7 centimeters across)
The rare, impressively attractive, purple-colored mineral charoite is only known from a relatively small area in Siberia. Several odd, large igneous intrusions have been emplaced in Siberia’s Baikal-Aldan Belt. One of these, the Murun Complex, consists of several plutons. Emplacement of the Little Murun Pluton (Malyy Murun Pluton) has resulted in significant contact metamorphism of surrounding rocks. In the southern and southeastern contact aureole of the Little Murun Pluton is a charoitite-carbonatite complex.
The charoitites are charoite-dominated contact metamorphic rocks. Metasomatism refers to rocks that have been altered by significant input of elements from an outside source. Because that’s primarily what contact metamorphism is about, such rocks can be called metasomatites. Some of the metasomatites in this area are purple-colored (“Sirenevyy Kamen” - the “Purple Stone” deposit). The purple material is the very rare mineral charoite. Charoite is a “garbage can” mineral, and the chemical formula assigned to it by geologists varies from publication to publication. Here’s one of the formulas I’ve seen, randomly picked: (K,Na)3(Ca,Sr,Ba,Mn)5Si12O30(OH·F)·3H2O - hydrous potassium sodium calcium strontium barium manganese hydroxy-fluorosilicate.
Age: Aptian Stage, Early Cretaceous, 115-120 Ma
Locality: Charoitites are mined from several specific, relatively closely-spaced localities in the headwaters areas of the Davan and Ditmara streams, south of Olekminsk & the Lena River, way northeast of Lake Baikal, southwestern Yakutia (Sakha), Siberia, Russia (~vicinity of 58º 22’ North latitude, 119º 11’ East longitude)

The one known place where you can find Charoite: Murunski Massif area in Siberia. The reason why a place like this can exist and not be looted out of existence. I am 99% certain the black mineral alongside the Charoite is Aegirine. This is from Mindat: www.mindat.org/photo-1031419.html
