For the third time in the last decade, The 4-GBoys of Ateneo High School Class '79 had sought yet another extreme adventure. This time kayaking (among other things) into the treacherous caves of Channel Island in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ventura, CA. Nineteen men---four from Manila, seven from CA, two from NY, and one each from TX, Chicago, Montreal, CT, NJ, MD---congregated in Pine Mountain Club, CA to defy their age and further strengthen their bonds that have endured the test of time. Here's only half of the adventure...
Another view of news vultures. They were almost directly overhead at the parking lot I pulled into, and at the time I thought they were there for a huge event in a nearby parking lot...but no, I should have known they were filming death and destruction.
Sadly, two teenagers had died in a car crash nearby.

The Channels from Harlem created some of the classic 1950s New York doowop. They recorded for Bobby Robinson's Whirlin' Disc label and featured lead Earl Lewis (second from bottom) who is still performing today.

Delft Seaways is a ro-pax ferry owned and operated by DFDS Seaways. She is the one of three sister ships designed for the cross-Channel route from Dover to Dunkerque, capable of making the crossing in one hour and 45 minutes. Delft Seaways is a Scandinavian designed ship built at the Samsung shipyards in South Korea in 2005. She sails under the flag of the United Kingdom and her port of registry is Dover.
I shot this scene just after sunset, from the deck of the battleship (museum) USS Iowa in Los Angeles Harbor. It brought to mind those long, dark desert drives where finally a glow from a roadside restaurant changed the atmosphere and invited you in with a sign, "we never close".
This is the main channel of the Port of Los Angeles. The Vincent Thomas Bridge is in the distance.

In June, July and August 1940 Stockport welcomed over 1200 evacuees from the Channel Islands. The children were cared for by local families until the islands were liberated in May 1945.

Kings Channel and, on the left, Little Island, The Island is 420 acres in Waterford City surrounded by King;s Channel and The River Suir. It is reached by means of a car ferry which until recently was operated by means of a chain, now a cable. Waterford Castle Hotel and Waterford Castle Golf Course are both on the Island. The Island was given to the Fitzgerald Family for their part in the Norman Invasion of Waterford in 1170.The island and the castle remained in the FitzGerald name for almost eight centuries, until 1958.
The Travel Channel Filming at Baker Heritage Museum in Baker City Oregon.
Spotted some pretty serious camera gear at the Baker Heritage Museum yesterday. Turns out the Travel Channel was in town filming for an upcoming show. Rumor is they were filming at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center as well. Sworn to secrecy on what story they were filming for but there's a hint in the photos
The Baker Heritage Museum is one of several museums in Baker County, the Baker Heritage Museum is housed in the historic 1920 Natatorium building and displays and interprets the rich history of this North East Oregon community with permanent displays and changing exhibits showcasing the area’s mining, timber, ranching, agriculture, and early Baker City life. The museum has also recently revamped their wildlife exhibit.
Two of the more unusual and fascinating exhibits include the 18-ton Cavin-Warfel collection of rocks, and fossils, and the Wally Byam –Airstream Exhibit celebrating Baker City native and creator of the Airstream trailer, Wally Byam.
