Lego Painting by Frances Sky
Frances’ artistic practice is rooted in abstract expressionism. She is also influenced by improvisation music such as Peter Van Huffel, and Aurealis’ jazz sphere. Her paintings engage the viewer in a visual inquiry between atmospheric and lyrical qualities of the form and the hard physicality of material, Lego.

During a Christmas trip to The Entrance and Norah Head in 2011, I captured this view of the channel at the coastline south of Norah Head.
Decided it was time to update my channel banner, as I now do more lego work, than animation. Top 5 figs, Governor 'Too Far gone', S3 Rick Grimes, BoFA Thranduil, S5 walter white and commander Cody. Photos were taken of each figure individually and edited together in photoshop.

La deuxième île, c’est Guernesey, plus petite et plus au nord. Ça n’en est pas moins la 2e plus grande île de la Manche… Guernesey n’a d’ailleurs pas toujours été une île : il y a 8000 ans, c’était le bout d’une péninsule rattachée au continent européen, avant que la montée des eaux ne les sépare. Ready to hop across the Channel Islands? Jersey, bottom right, has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world. As a result, it almost doubles in size twice every day with the low tide. Next up is Guernsey, smaller and further north, it's the second largest island in the Channel. Guernsey hasn't always been an island: 8000 years ago, it was the tip of a peninsula attached to the European continent before being separated by rising sea waters.

This is part of a lovely 11-mile loop. I saw no one else on the trail; apparently that length lies outside most people's comfort zone. The elevation change is modest - pretty flat along Lewis Lake and the channel, though you occasionally climb a bluff to get away from the river. On the way back, you climb from 7791 to 8000 feet on an easy trail.

Our lodge was located on a peninsula of Lake Edward. The Kazinga Channel in front of us is a long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, which attracts so many animals and birds. I skipped the cruise that afternoon and walked along the shore with plenty of trees.

En route to the Susquehanna River, Oakland Run cascades through a deep, rhododendron-lined gorge. Adding to the scenic beauty is the surrounding old-growth forest of hemlocks and hardwoods.

Was the first time people crossed the English Channel in a balloon. Frenchman Jean-Pierre Blanchard and American John Jeffries travel from Dover, England, to Calais, France, in a gas balloon, becoming the first to cross the English Channel by air.

According to sailing folklore, a sense of excitement and restlessness can sweep over sailors as they began to approach their destination, even though no land is yet in sight. The giddiness that portends a journey’s end is called “Channel Fever”. It is said to be named for the English Channel, because the confined waters in the Channel had noticeably different motion than the open sea – and this changing motion, although subtle at times, would alert sailors that they had returned to home waters and would soon be in port.
An important shipping and sailing lane, the English Channel connects the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, and separates southern England (in the west) from northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In this image, black lines delineate the boundaries of these three countries on the eastern coast of the Channel, with France in the south and the Netherlands in the north. The Channel is about 350 mi (560 km) long and 150 mi (240 km) long. It averages 207 ft (63 m) in depth, but the deepest spot is 571 feet (174 m). The narrowest part of the Channel forms the Strait of Dover, and marks the boundary between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite flew across the English Channel on April 16, 2014 and captured this true-color image.
At the time this image was captured, the waters in the Channel were colored in many shades of tan, green and blue. Near the coastlines, as well as in the River Severn (west side of southern England) the muddy-colored tans indicated sediment in the water, most likely from run-off. As sediment sinks, its reflective properties change, and sediment can appear either greenish or blue. Phytoplankton, small plant-like organisms, can also color waters in various shades of greens and blues, especially if the blue has a milky cast. Much of the coloration in the Channel is clearly sediment, but some may also be phytoplankton.
There are three of these large cuckoos, the largest cuckoos in the world in fact up at Tenterfield Park at the moment. This wasn't a first time sighting but it was a first time capture :-)
Dole is a jewel in the beautiful department of Jura. This city has retained its human and historical dimension. It's a place where one would really want to live.
