Caroline and I had breakfast on the cliffs over looking the sea.

The sea mist rolled around over Northern France. Its a view we have witnessed many times.

Taken near Kurrajong, NSW.

The Channel-billed Cuckoo lays its eggs in the nests of other large birds such as the Australian Magpie, the Pied Currawong, and members of the crow family. Unlike many other cuckoos, the young birds do not evict the host's young or eggs from the nest, but simply grow faster and demand all the food, thus starving the others.

They are notorious for calling all night long during the breeding season. This species is sometimes known as the Storm-bird.

Browsing through shots I took the evening I was able to visit this incredible--if crowded--beach, I came across one more I particularly like. I hope you enjoy it!

Winter grips Bedford Channel in Fort Langley as the Fraser Rivers mists glide along the perfectly calm water, mirroring the scene.

Hiking in the Narrows is a unique and fun experience in the summertime. The water level can be as high as the waist. And it can be difficult to walk through the slippery rocks underwater. A stick or hiking pole is a must to keep the balance. The part of Wall Street is especially photogenic for the high walls and narrow sections. The water was clear and cool and turned turquoise when it was deeper.

I was fortunate to capture this Channel-billed Toucan in flight. While focusing on another bird, I caught a brief glimpse of him, just in time to snap the shot.

The Channel-billed Toucan, one of the largest toucans, is about 20 inches long and weighs a tad over a pound. Its diet consists of fruit, insects, and small reptiles. Native to tropical South America, this toucan ranges from northern Colombia and Venezuela to southern Brazil.

in our backyard being hassled by Magpies and Currawongs that DO NOT want to raise a Cuckoo chick instead of their own!

The channel-billed toucan is a near-passerine bird in the family Ramphastidae found on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and in tropical South America as far south as southern Brazil and central Bolivia.

I keep going back to this area as with each new storm and flash flood, the colors and shapes and drapes of mud change into new and interesting patterns.

Butchers reservoir was created in 1937. In 1862, gold was discovered in Butchers Gully. There once was a store, butcher's shop and hotel here, back in the gold days... eventually the dam was created and the gully flooded.....

It is said that when the water levels get low, you can still see the chimneystacks under the surface. The water is so clear and glass like, I tried this day to see them. All I saw was reflecting clouds.

Channels were apparently dug through Caddo Lake to allow boats with deeper drafts to pass. This is one such passage. A little creepy. 20210315CaddoLakeDxOLr14

Stumble It!

The daylight is starting to wane here in the Northland. The sun sits on the mountain tops at 2pm and the impending low Winter light always leaves me melancholy...

Grinnell Glacier, Glacier National Park.

Grenville Channel is a long narrow channel between high mountains between Pitt Island and mainland British Columbia. It is part of the inside passage to Alaska. It is probably named after Sir Richard Grenville, an ancestor of Captain George Vancouver who charted a lot of this area. In this image the BC Ferries ship Northern Expedition can be seen moving through the channel on its way north in early morning light, diminished by the size of the mountains.

Decided it was time to do another update on the banner, featuring (some of), my favourite/best liked figures.
