HI!

My name is Jake. I want to thank all my Flickr friends who have wished me so well and awaited my arrival with such encouraging words, thoughts and prayers. Since I am a little bundle of joy [so I'm told] my daddy may be busy for a little while and unable to post as many pictures here as he usually does! That's OK. He will be changing diapers, helping me eat and introducing me to our new and wonderful world, one bird, bug, book and beautiful day at a time...

Sunrise on a misty morning. Lembang, Indonesia.

September 2013.

It was interesting to see families and communities living on these slopes. I have disabled comments for "Life on these slopes - Part I" because it is a close up of a section of the larger area and scene captured in "Life on these slopes - Part II". Part II was shot at sunrise and Part I was shot approximately 15 minutes after the sun had risen.

With each sunrise, and especially at the dawn of a new year, I look back and am grateful for all the hits and misses of 2013, and for all the good and bad times. Let's journey on, staying rooted and anchored, neither distracted by success or failure.

“Gratitude doesn't change the scenery. It merely washes clean the glass you look through so you can clearly see the colors.”

Taken just below Slieve Binnian's North Torr. Nice time of the year with the browns and reds giving way to the greens.

I have photographed these particular leaves every day for the past two weeks just to see the colour changes.

Fall colors are just beginning to grip the trees along the banks of the Virgin River in Zion National Park. I was hoping for a bit more color, but according to locals the changes were a bit late this year. Nonetheless, still spectacular!

Thanks for your views and comments! They are greatly appreciated!

One of my contacts let me know about the Change Project, so I decided to add this shot.

Changing colors (a small LED or something inside) - Note, this is the same candle in three shots!

All day long the clouds were dark and heavy, I was not sure if we were going to get any color at sunset, but I figured what the heck... I'll give it a try, and I am glad I did!

This is a long exposure taken on a hillside above the Scripps Pier. The actual processing of this photo was more difficult than I originally thought because the dark shadow area of the building had so much noise I was not happy with it, so I ended up using a second photo taken at a very quick shutter for the building and masking that in. This eliminated all the noise and gave a much cleaner image. After this, I used a Perspective Warp in Photoshop to eliminate the leaning effect due to the wide angle lens.

I noticed the clouds breaking during a rainy day in St Ives. I headed up to the bus station (probably the best bus station in England for the views) and hung around for about 20 minutes, capturing some amazing, changeable lighting. The rainbow skating across the sea was a bonus. Thanks for viewing.

Before we leave New York, I'll abandon my usual practice of subject diversification, and post only street photography for the next 3 weeks. Apologies to the fans of abstraction & nature--they'll be back in the next location.

Love Changes Things. 24 x 36. Watercolor. 2002. Just as light changes these antique roses into something of extraordinary beauty, love transforms ordinary people into extraordinary friends. My favorite painting. This won best of show when displayed in 2002. I call this my miracle painting as I almost did not live to finish it. Through God's divine intervention I am cured! I've never been healthier or happier.

An excellent 20 x 30 giclee reproduction on watercolor paper is available. Contact me for details.

Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) uses its huge wings and tail feathers to halt in mid-flight and change directions.

Took this at Raglan, the sun had just gone done. Really the title relates to watching the day change to night but also I got made redundant (due to finish in June, company closing also) a few months ago and have found a new job so big exciting changes ahead for me and a major relief!

This image is a big thanks to Sonja who has sent me some encouraging words whilst I was looking for work-cheers-no pink sorry though-hope its OK :-)

I know this picture isnt the greatest, I was trying to catch a couple birdies in the tree, and didnt even notice, till I downloaded the picture, that I caught the moon as well. But hey, on the up side, its a new picture! Well... Newish...lol...

Well, there are going to be some changes to my photo stream here within the next week or so. With that latest "tagged" contest that was going around, and scanning old pictures, I decided to take the past couple weeks and scan ALL my old pictures. It has taken me, what seems like forever to do them, but I think I got them all. I will be uploading them all to flickr as well. They are pictures of just about everything about my life. Places I've been, things I've seen, family, childhood, friends, people that have come and gone in my life, and even some pictures from loooong ago... I ran even across a couple that are over 125 years old that I will be posting as well. PLUS some recetly taken pictures that I have been trying to retrieve from a hard drive that had a virus in it for the past 2 years, and I finally figured out how to get them! What a freakin pain that was... I also got my 4,000 downloaded songs back! *Whew*...

I know most people start out on flickr with a ton of pictures, then get more serious about there photography, and I seem to be doing it bass ackwards... But thats just me! Feel free to go through them if you like when I get them up here. There will be a bunch of them. Somewhere between 6-7000 by the time I'm done. Some of them are pretty neat too!:o)

Hey, we are all paying to use the space here, so we may as well use it, right?!

Thanks again my friends! :o)

A few months later and the palette has changed completely. This one from my 1st batch on Velvia 50 - love the colours!

Kanaka Creek Regional Park is a regional park of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, located in the city of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, flanking both sides of Kanaka Creek from its confluence with the Fraser River just east of Haney and extending approximately 11 km (7 mi) up the creek to just south of the community of Webster's Corners. The Maple Ridge Fairgrounds are just east of the lower regions of the park, beyond them is the community of Albion. Derby Reach Regional Park is just across the Fraser in Langley.

A variety of plants and animals can be located in all 3 areas of the park and it is a popular spot for both Black Bear and Salmon populations. Kanaka Creek Regional Park has a rich history- the first purchase of land for the park by the City of Maple Ridge occurred in the late 1970s, and the land is the traditional unceded territory of the Katzie, Kwantlen, Matsqui, Musqueam, Semiahmoo, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. Recently, misuse of the land has negatively changed parts of the park. To fix this issue, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks implemented a 20 year management plan in 2004 with the assistance of the Katzie First Nation among other groups, and the University of Victoria (UVIC) completed a restoration project in areas of the park in 2022.

Recreation

Kanaka Creek is widely recognized for its natural beauty, as well as recreational appeal. According to a local newspaper, the Daily Hive, Kanaka is the 8th most popular park in metro Vancouver, with 610,500 visitors in 2022. The park features walking, hiking, and biking trails publicly available to anyone who wants to use them. Along these walks there is plenty of flora and fauna to view. The park also has a lake in which visitors can fish, or canoe. The park is wheelchair accessible, and equipped with parking and public washrooms.

The 400 ha. park has three main areas. The Riverfront area adjacent to the Fraser and BC Hwy 7 has picnic tables and a boat-launch, suitable for launching canoes and kayaks for navigating the slow-moving waters of Kanaka Creek up as far as the 240th Street bridge. The Riverfront Trail winds along this stretch of the creek and has a number of three-story wooden viewing towers. Above 240th Street the stream is shallower and full of snags and not suitable for boating. Above that a popular swimming hole with slickrock slides is at Cliff Falls. There are twin falls on Kanaka Creek, one on each of its upper fork. Much of the upper area of the park is heavily forested, though hiking along the creek beds is feasible and a number of wooden walkways through the forest and along the creek have been established in the area.

The AC4460CW trailing two M636s on this Driftwood Turn was a sign of things to come on the Western New York & Pennsylvania. Change was also literally in the air as it was autumn, although the surrounding hillsides were still mostly green when this photo was taken.

Thank you for viewing my work, it's much appreciated!

Union Pacific 2-8-0 No. 618 strikes a timeless profile as it crosses 1st South at 6th West street in Heber City, Utah on Dec. 20, 1987.

With 30 years of change, It's safe to say the only things present that remain at this location today are the roadway, the mountains, the pine trees, and the sky. Everything else is now gone as time marches forward.

It's the end of the world as we know it.-*
