As we continued exploring New England, we stopped in Burlington, Vermont. The overlook at Battery Park provided nice views of Lake Champlain...
This lighthouse stands as a monument to Lake Champlain's namesake, Samuel de Champlain. The central stairway and shaft belong to the original 1858 lighthouse.* Between 1911 and 1912, French sculptor Auguste Rodin built the classical memorial portions onto the existing structure.+ New York Governor John A. Dix dedicated the monument following its July 5, 1912 completion.*

Champlain Flyer service utilized Vermont Railway GP38-2 #202 and several demotored RDC cars, with 2 being equipped as cab control cars as seen here at Burlington, VT on August 4, 2001. The trains never really caught on and the service was discontinued on 2/28/03.(vtr11950i)
