Located on the eastern side of George Square, the Glasgow City Chambers (or Municipal Buildings) has functioned as the headquarters of Glasgow City Council since 1996, and of previous forms of municipal government in the city since 1889. The Victorian building was designed by Scottish architect William Young, constructed between 1882 and 1888, and was inaugurated by Queen Victoria in August 1888. The first council meeting was held within the chambers in October 1889.

These chambers increase the temperature of the soil and plants on the delta by ~ 2º C. What will happen to the plants if the atmosphere warms by 2º. The mean annual surface temperature change in Alaska from 1994 to 2007 has been 3.4º F (www.fws.gov/alaska/climate/inak.htm)

J. C. Mathews designed this Queen Anne Victorian in 1887 using Gothic and Tuscan detailing. Richard Chambers moved here in 1887 and made his fortune in silver. His two nieces lived there also and when he died they got it. The story goes they hated each other and eventually one was found sawed in half. Local paranormals say ghosts of the insane family remain. Ghost tours stop by waiting for the niece's spirit to appear through flashing lights in the windows.

About 400 students from special needs facilities and schools in Chambers, Lee, and Tallapoosa counties attended the third annual Chambers County Sheriff's Office Special Needs Rodeo. Folks enjoyed a day filled with rodeo events, games, and a petting zoo. The petting zoo was hosted by the Chambers County Farmers Federation with help from the Young Farmers Committee. Students had a good time watching rodeo events, especially while in the shade of an umbrella.

Named after Texas pioneer Major General Thomas Jefferson Chambers, Chambers County was established in 1858. Until the early 20th century, Wallisville was the county seat and the location for the first three Chambers County courthouses. They were built in 1858, 1880 and 1887. Anahuac's rice canal system and the presence of wild hogs at Wallisville's courthouse prompted an election in 1907 that made Anahuac the county seat in 1908.

After the election, the county constructed a new courthouse completed in 1912 at this location, the courthouse included a jail, indoor plumbing, telephones, electric lights and an outdoor bathroom for African Americans. The courthouse was built in the Renaissance Revival style, featuring large columns and a stone exterior. The building, however, burned down on April 28, 1935.

In 1935, County Treasurer Grover C. Willcox desired a modern courthouse "in line with the growth of the town." As a part of Federal New Deal programs, the Public Works Administration contributed funds for a new courthouse. Designed by Corneil G. Curtis and built by notable contractor Robert E. McKee, construction finished in May 1937 on the three-story, ashlar limestone building. A combination of Art Deco and Moderne architectural styles (1920s-1940s), the courthouse's exterior showcases vertical lines, a symmetrical façade, geometrical shapes and simple ornamentation. Since its construction, little has changed about the county courthouse. Throughout its history, the Chambers County courthouse has not only acted as a focal point of the community but has also reflected the county's economic, political and social history.
